Remove irrigation and aspiration tubing from handpiece. Remove aspiration luer with hand and not using tools.
2 Unplug handpiece from the console by the metal handle and install protective cap.
3 Remove infusion sleeve and tip from handpiece using tip wrench and discard safely.
4 Pat away residue with a soft, clean, lint-free non-abrasive cloth and rinse handpiece. * If necessary, clean exterior with a soft-bristled brush. Submerge the nose cone (front part) in water. Using a syringe, PUSH (DO NOT DRAW) at least 120 cc of water through irrigation and aspiration paths.

Using a syringe, PUSH (DO NOT DRAW) at least 120 cc of water through irrigation and aspiration paths.
Always work with sterile, room-temperature deionised water 6 With the same syringe, flush both ports with at least 60 cc of air.
Caution: Never ultrasonically clean the phaco handpiece. Prior to sterilisation, it is recommended that the phaco handpiece should always have the connector end cap secured and placed in the sterilisation tray. This will prevent damage to the connectors and handpieces during handling, and especially during autoclaving.
7 Dry exterior surfaces with a cloth without exerting traction on the outer sheath of the cable.
8 Ensure handpiece is clean and completely dry.
9 Place handpiece in sterilisation tray. Sterilise using a steam sterilisation cycle.
Caution: Do not operate the phaco handpiece unless the tip is immersed in BSS™ sterile irrigating solution or distilled water or is in surgical use.
Proper configuration for storage Note for sterilisation pouch system users: A larger size pouch to store handpiece with loose cable is recommended to prevent cable kink.
Allow at least 15 minutes for air cooling after autoclaving. Immersing the handpiece in liquid immediately may cause damage.
Warning: Do not bend or wrap cable too tightly at handpiece boot or at plug as this may cause irreparable damage.

CENTURION® VISION SYSTEM IMPORTANT PRODUCT INFORMATION CAUTIONS: Ensure that test chamber is filled with BSS™ sterile irrigating solution before tuning the phaco handpiece. Tuning a handpiece dry may result in premature tip failure and breakage. Quenching a hot handpiece in water can cause damage and will void warranty. Be sure handpiece is completely dry before connecting it to console. Damage to handpiece and console may result if plugged in when wet. Federal law restricts this device to sale by, or on the order of, a physician. WARNINGS: Appropriate use of Centurion® Vision System parameters and accessories is important for successful procedures. Use of low vacuum limits, low flow rates, low bottle heights, high power settings, extended power usage, power usage during occlusion conditions (beeping tones), failure to sufficiently aspirate viscoelastic prior to using power, excessively tight incisions, and combinations of the above actions may result in significant temperature increases at incision site and inside the eye, and lead to severe thermal eye tissue damage. Good clinical practice dictates the testing for adequate irrigation and aspiration flow prior to entering the eye. Ensure that tubings are not occluded or pinched during any phase of operation. The consumables used in conjunction with Alcon instrument products constitute a complete surgical system. Use of consumables and handpieces other than those manufactured by Alcon may affect system performance and create potential hazards. AEs/COMPLICATIONS: Inadvertent actuation of Prime or Tune while a handpiece is in the eye can create a hazardous condition that may result in patient injury. During any ultrasonic procedure, metal particles may result from inadvertent touching of the ultrasonic tip with a second instrument. Another potential source of metal particles resulting from any ultrasonic handpiece may be the result of ultrasonic energy causing micro abrasion of the ultrasonic tip. ATTENTION: Refer to the Directions for Use and Operator’s Manual for a complete listing of indications, warnings, cautions and notes.
