Allen® Advance Table User Manual (D-720686-A6)
INTENDED USE The intended users of the Allen® Advance Table (Table) are healthcare employees who have been trained to use the product, and who have the physical strength and cognitive skills to operate and control the product. Follow facility safety protocols if an intended user does not have the physical strength or cognitive skills to operate and control the product safely. The Table is intended to be used in an operating room environment to support and position patients during surgical procedures. Several types of specialty tops can be attached to the Table to permit surgical access and 360° radiolucency for various types of surgical operations. The patient can be secured into various operable positions from the supine, prone, or lateral position. Electronic controls on the Table pendant permit the adjustment of table height, angle, tilt, and auxiliary function for the lateral top. The Table contains electronic locking casters that permit the Table to be moved and locked into position by use of an electronic control on the Table pendant. This manual provides the information required for normal operation of the Table. Before you operate the Table, be sure that you have read and understood in detail the contents of this manual. It is important that you read and strictly obey the aspects of safety contained in this manual. Any reference to a side of the Table is from the patient’s view lying on an installed patient support top on his or her back. NOTE: When we discuss the installation of the Prone Support Set, any position reference is with the patient lying face down on the patient support top. This manual includes the different features and options for the Table, some of which may not apply to your unit. To identify the model that you have, look at the model number label that is on the inside of the head-end base, near the power outlet.

Before you use Allen® Patient Support Tops with a table not manufactured by Allen Medical, you must verify with the product manufacturer that the support tops can be used safely with their product. There are no known contraindications for use of the Table. Except for patient transfer, always use safety straps to help secure the patient to the support top. Never remove a cross pin from a support top while a patient is on the support top. Before each use of the unit, make sure that all parts are correctly installed and that the unit operates correctly. If the unit has been dropped or damaged, before you use the unit, make sure facility maintenance has examined the unit completely and determined that it is safe to operate. To avoid the risk of electric shock, the unit must only be connected to a supply mains with protective earth. The potential for electrical shock exists with electrical equipment. Failure to follow facility protocols may cause death or serious injury. If the Table is to be used near high-frequency surgical equipment, cardiac defibrillators, and cardiac defibrillator-monitors, refer to the product manufacturer’s instructions to make sure the equipment will operate as intended. Incorrect use or handling of the power cord may cause damage to the power cord. If damage has occurred to the power cord or any of its components, immediately remove the Table from service, and contact the applicable maintenance persons. Do not expose the unit to excessive moisture. Fluid spills on to the electronics can cause a hazard. If such a spill occurs, unplug the unit and remove it from service. When fluid spills occur outside that seen in normal use, immediately do as follows: a. Unplug the unit from its power source. b. Remove the patient from the unit. c. Clean the fluid spill from the unit. d. Have maintenance examine the unit completely. e. Do not put the unit back into service until it is completely dry, tested, and determined to be safe to operate. Be aware of these pinch points on the Table: – Between the caster and base skins – Between an H-bracket and the column

Consult with facility caregivers to make sure that a patient is not on the unit before you service the unit. Patient injury can occur. The unit is not intended for patient transport. However, if you must use the unit to transport a patient, make sure that the unit is in its lowest position and the patient is in a level position (not tilted). Before you transport the unit, make sure of these: – The unit is in its lowest position. – The power cord is disconnected from the facility power outlet and stored on the unit. – Accessories, supports, and any equipment that is to be transported with the unit are within the perimeter of the unit and secure on the unit. During transport, make sure to do these: – Use caution so that the unit does not tip or overbalance. – For inclines and thresholds, approach them as you move forward or backward, rather than sideways. – Push the unit safely; do not make sharp corners or turn the unit at high speeds. Do not use tape on the Table. Adhesive residue could affect the functions of the Table or the support tops. However, you may use tape on the lateral top. Use an alcohol wipe to remove adhesive residue. Keep this manual available for future reference.
