M10 Socket screws.
f)
8
M10 Washers.
1. Stand the deck and electrical base assembly on a flat, level floor and apply the brakes. 2. Use the control handset to raise the deck to full height. It should be possible to do this using battery power. If not, temporarily connect the cot to the mains power supply. (See Section 3, Installation.) 3. Fit the two side frame assemblies (b) to the deck frame (with the laminated side panels on the inside), using the eight M10 socket screws (e) and washers (f). The screws will be stiff to turn as they are self locking. Do not fully tighten yet. 4. Raise one safety side fully so that the upper rail is touching both top leg lugs. While in this position, fully tighten the four M10 socket screws. Repeat this operation on the other side.
4
5. Install the foot end, passing it down through the tilt adjusting handle. Locate the pins on the upper rail in the small lugs at the top of the legs. Locate the bottom channel over the cross bar on the deck frame ensuring that the latch (B) is engaged.
6. Install the head end in the same manner as the foot end. On model 31301E/L, ensure that the backrest is inside the cot. 7. Check operation of the tilt mechanism. Check that safety sides can be raised and lowered easily and that side catches function correctly. On model 31301E/L, check the operation of the backrest adjustment mechanism.
5
3. Installation Unwind the mains supply cable from the cable tidy at the head of the cot and connect it to a suitable socket outlet.
A two -pin to three -pin mains safety adaptor (Part No. S5761) is supplied for UK use. If the cot is accidentally moved whilst connected to the mains supply, the lead and adaptor are designed to separate, preventing damage to the 3 pin plug or socket.
WARNING Do not attempt to insert the two-pin mains connector directly into a 13 amp mains outlet. Make sure that the mains cable is not stretched when connected. Make sure that the handset and mains cables cannot become entangled with moving parts of the cot.
Caution When the cot is to be moved, disconnect the mains cable from the socket outlet and store the cable on the cable tidy at the head of the cot. Always remove the cable from the cable tidy when it is connected to the power supply. An equipotential terminal in accordance with the requirements of IEC 601-1 (EN 60601-1) is provided on the mattress deck frame at the head end of the cot.

4. Operation Height Adjustment
The height of the cot is adjusted by means of push buttons on the control handset. When a button is pressed, the cot will move in the appropriate direction until the button is released or the limit of travel is reached.
Push button control handset
WARNING When not in use, the control handset should be kept in the storage compartment provided at the foot end of the cot. This compartment has a lock and key to prevent unauthorised use of the control handset. Make sure that the handset is pushed fully into its storage compartment to prevent the locking mechanism from damaging it.
7
Safety sides
Each safety side can be adjusted to three positions. To raise: Lift the side until the catches drop beneath the hooks at maximum, intermediate or low height, then let it down until the hooks are engaged on the catches. To lower: Lift the side slightly to disengage the hooks, raise both catches and allow the side to drop. When moving down from maximum height, the side will lock in the intermediate position unless you continue to hold the catches.

8
Drainage Bag Rail
On each side of the cot is a rail (A) for the support of urine / drainage bags. There is a recess in the bottom rail of each safety side which allows it to be raised or lowered without interfering with the drainage tubes. Ensure that the drainage tubes are passed through both guide hooks (B) and (C) and behind the rail (D).
Drainage tube guides If the safety side is lowered the drainage tubes can be released from the guide hooks and the drainage bag can be passed through the bars of the safety side. This allows the patient to be removed from the cot without having to disconnect the drainage tubes.
9
Two-way tilt
There are eighteen selectable positions between 12° foot-up and 8° foot-down.
WARNING If an adjustable backrest is fitted, make sure the backrest is vertical and the head end is securely latched before operating the tilt mechanism. To adjust: Hold the bow-shaped handle firmly and push aside the child proof safety catch before squeezing the tilt operating lever. Adjust the tilt in either direction to the required angle. Let go of the lever and move the bow shaped handle up and down until the nearest fixed locking position is located.

10
Castors and Brakes
There is a bow pedal located at the foot end of the cot that operates all linked castors simultaneously. When the pedal is in the horizontal position, the brakes are free and all the castors are able to rotate and swivel. When the pedal is pressed down, it applies the brakes on all four castors. When the pedal is lifted up, it engages one foot end castor (in line) so that it cannot swivel. The cot can then be pushed and steered from the head end.

5. Cleaning WARNING Before cleaning, disconnect the cot from the mains power supply.
Cleaning
These instructions also apply to accessories but not to mattresses. Wearing protective clothing, clean all surfaces with a disposable cloth soaked in hand-hot water and a neutral detergent. Start by cleaning the upper sections of the cot and work along all horizontal surfaces. Work methodically towards the lower parts of the cot and clean the wheels last. Take extra care when cleaning areas that may trap dust or dirt. Rinse with clean water and dry with disposable paper towels. Allow the cleaned parts to dry before replacing the mattress.
Disinfecting After cleaning the cot as described above, wipe all surfaces with sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) at a concentration of 1000ppm (0.1 %) of available chlorine. In the case of pooling body fluids, e.g. blood, the concentration of NaDCC should be increased to 10,000ppm (1%) of available chlorine.
Cautions Do not use phenol based cleaning solutions. Do not use abrasive compounds or pads.
14
6. Maintenance The following preventive maintenance procedures should be carried out at intervals of 12 months.
WARNING Before commencing any maintenance activity, disconnect the cot from the electrical power supply. Avoid skin contact with lubricants. Rubber gloves and protective clothing should be worn when carrying out maintenance work. General
Examine the cot for obvious signs of damage. Make sure that all bolts, nuts and other fixings are tight and not missing
Safety Side Catches
Check that both catches swing freely and drop down to engage the hooks when released. If necessary, remove the safety side and remove the catches. Clean and re-grease the pivots with Shell Rhodina Grease 2 and reassemble the catches and the safety sides. Refer to Section 2, Assembly.
Castors and Brakes
Set the brake bow pedal to each position in turn and check that the brakes and steering lock are working efficiently. In the ‘free’ position, make sure that all four castors turn and swivel easily when the cot is moved. Brakes that fail to lock indicate that the castor is past its working life and should be replaced.
Tilt Mechanism
Check the tilt box mechanism for correct operation. If the tilt box fails to unlock this may be because the release cable has stretched. To remedy this adjust the two nuts which hold the outer cable close to the release lever. Loosen the nuts and take up the slack. Do not overtighten the cable. When operation is satisfactory, re-tighten the nuts. If the lock mechanism fails to engage, first make sure the cable is not over adjusted. Check the plunger and spring for freedom of movement. If it is sticking, clean and regrease with Shell Rhodina Grease 2.
15
Batteries
Every six months, the battery condition should be checked as follows:
WARNING Electrical equipment can be hazardous if misused. The control box covers should only be removed by an approved Huntleigh Healthcare service technician. 1.
Make sure that the cot has been connected to the Mains power supply for 24 hours.
2.
Disconnect the cot from the mains power supply.
3.
Apply a load of 20kg to the mattress platform.
4.
Raise and lower the mattress platform, from minimum to maximum height, three times.
5.
If the cot does not operate satisfactorily, it may mean that the batteries need replacing, consult a Huntleigh Healthcare service technician or agent.
