Intended Use This equipment must be used in line with its intended use and in accordance with these safety instructions. Anyone using this equipment must also have read and understood the instructions in this Instructions for Use (IFU). If there is anything you are not sure about, contact your ArjoHuntleigh representative.
Resident assessment We recommend that facilities establish regular assessment routines. Caregivers must assess each resident according to the following criteria prior to use: •
This equipment is mainly to be used by a resident that is almost or completely bedridden and totally dependent. • The resident’s weight must not exceed 150 kg / 330 lbs. • When using the 1600 mm Concerto® the resident’s length must be in the range of 90 and 140 cm (3’- 4’ 7”). • When using the 1900 mm Concerto® / Basic™ the resident’s length must be in the range of 140 and 180 cm (4’ 7” - 5’ 11”). • When using the 2250 mm Concerto® the resident’s length must be in the range of 140 and 210 cm (4’ 7” - 6’ 11”). If a resident does not meet these criteria an alternative equipment/system should be used.
This equipment is intended for showering and bathing of hospital or care facility residents under the supervision of trained caregivers with adequate knowledge of the care environment, its common practices and procedures, and in accordance with the guidelines in the Instructions for Use. The equipment must only be used for the purposes stated above, and removable parts must be mounted according to the recommendations given in the Instructions for Use. All equipment must be disinfected according to the instructions established in the Instructions for Use.
Installation & Service requirements The expected life of this equipment, unless otherwise stated, is ten (10) years, subject to preventive maintenance being carried out in accordance with the instructions for Care and Preventive Maintenance found in the Instructions for Use (IFU). Assembly of parts must be mounted according to the instructions in the Instructions for Use (IFU).

Safety Instructions WARNING This equipment is not suitable for use in presence of flammable medical and/ or anaesthetic gases due to a fire risk.
WARNING Never leave the resident unattended at any time due to risk of a fall or other dangerous situations.
WARNING Some sub floor levelled drains, holes and slopes exceeding a ration of 1:50, can increase the risk of Concerto®/ Basic™ tipping which can cause bodily injury.
WARNING Electrical hazard. Do NOT use electrical devices in or near the Concerto®/Basic™ when showering a resident. Electrocution can cause bodily injury.

Preparations Actions before the first use 1 Visually inspect Concerto®/Basic™ for transport damage.
Actions before every use 1 Check that all parts are in place. Compare with the Parts Designation list in this IFU.
2 The package should be recycled according to local regulations.
2 Carry out a thorough inspection for damage.

The Concerto®/Basic™ must be disinfected at the beginning of every day and after every use to prevent crosscontamination.
5 Make sure that the battery is fully charged (Concerto® electric).
6 Unpack the battery charger (Concerto® electric). See chapter, Battery and charger.

7 Charge the battery until the battery indicator (LED with orange light) on the charger turns itself off. See chapter, Battery and Charger (Concerto® electric).
The driving direction during transport is illustrated below.
8 Perform a functionality test on the Concerto®/Basic™. See chapter, Care and Preventive Maintenance. 9 Find a dry area with good ventilation for storing the Concerto®/Basic™. 10 Choose a designated area where the IFU should be kept, accessible at all times. 11 Make sure to have a rescue plan ready in case of a resident emergency. 12 If you have any questions, please contact your local ArjoHuntleigh representative for support and service. The contact information (ArjoHuntleigh addresses) is listed at the end of this IFU.

Assembly of Concerto®/Basic™ 1
Unpack the Concerto®/Basic™.
2 Cut the straps that hold the side supports under the stretcher (see Fig. 1). 3
Raise the side supports.

Check that the bag hanging on one of the straps contain the parts to mount the head/foot supports and the oil plug (see Fig. 2).

The head and foot supports at the short ends of the stretcher are mounted upside down when delivered. The head support is turned 180° sideways as well (see Fig. 3).
6 Loosen the screws on the head and foot supports with the Allen key. Turn the supports 180° upwards on top of the stretcher and then turn the head support 180° sideways (see Fig. 4). 7
Place the head support in one of the three positions and the foot support in its only position (see Fig. 4).
8 Tighten the screws with the Allen key. 9 To assemble the oil plug for Concerto® hydraulic /Basic™ do the following: (use the Allen key provided in the bag) •
assemble the oil plug from the bag,
•
remove the transport plug and
•
replace with the assembled oil plug (see Fig. 5).
10 To assemble the oil plug for Concerto® electric do the following: (use the Allen key provided in the bag) •
remove the transport plug on the oil container and
•
replace with the enclosed oil plug (see Fig. 6).

Product Description / Functions Manual raising and lowering (Concerto® hydraulic and Basic™) The pedal can be used from both sides of the stretcher. Press it with your foot and slide it under the beam to the other side (see Fig. 1). • •
Removing the mattress 1 Unscrew the flange nut from the drainage hole and pull the drainage hose out. Lifting up the end part of the mattress from the drainage outlet (see Fig. 3). 2 Fold down the side supports (see Fig. 5).
To raise the stretcher pump the pedal, using the full range of motion.

To lower the stretcher, keep the pedal pressed down as far as possible.
4 Pull and lift along the side strip to detach the mattress from the stretcher (see Fig. 4). 5
Electric raising and lowering (Concerto® electric) Unhook the hand control from its holder. •
To raise the Concerto® electric, press the “up” arrow button on the hand control.
•
To lower the Concerto® electric press the “down” arrow button on the hand control.
Push the mattress towards the other side of the stretcher so the other side strip loosens.
Brakes Apply the brakes by pressing down the castor lock tab (A) with your foot (see Fig. 6). Release the brakes by pressing forward and down on the castor centre tab (B) with your foot (see Fig. 6).
Side supports Fold down the side support by pressing the two catches at the same time (see Fig. 5). When raising the side support, make sure the two catches snap into place (see Fig. 2).
Straight steering (Concerto® only) To facilitate transportation in corridors etc., the Concerto® is equipped with a straight steering device. The straight steering tabs are located on the castors diagonally from each other.
Attaching the mattress 1 Fold down the side supports.
The straight steering device is activated by pressing down the tab (A) with your foot (see Fig. 7).
2 Press the part of the mattress with the drainage into the stretcher in order to get the right position (see Fig. 3). 3
Undo one edge of the mattress side strip.
Release it by lifting the tab (B) with your foot (see Fig. 7).
Place one side of the mattress side strip around the edge of the stretcher.
Length adjustment of stretcher
4 Snap the other mattress side strip around the stretcher. Press with some force and drag one hand along the side strip for it to fasten (see Fig. 4).
The head support can be adjusted to alter the length of the stretcher. Unscrew the two screws with an Allen key and move the support to the desired position. Then tighten the screws securely (see Fig. 8).
NOTE Do NOT wear jewellery or rings as it can potentially cause tears and holes in the mattress.

Tilting the stretcher (Concerto® only) The stretcher can be tilted to help with cleaning and disinfection. This operation is easier done with brakes applied. The tilting mechanism is located under the stretcher.
Drainage/Drainage hose The Concerto®/Basic™ comes with a drainage hose (see Fig. 4).
1 Press the button, then move the catch to one side (see Fig. 1).
The flexible drainage hose can be connected to a floor drain to reduce splashing.
The mattress design combined with the slope of the stretcher ensures proper drainage.
2 Tilt the stretcher (see Fig. 2). Attaching the drainage hose 1 Insert the drainage hose through the drainage hole (see Fig. 5).
WARNING Make sure that the catch has locked (click sound) the stretcher after putting it back in place to prevent tipping. Tipping can cause bodily injury to both the resident and the caregiver.
2 Under the stretcher, screw the flange nut to the end of the hose (see Fig. 5). Before transportation, put the drainage hose nozzle in its holder (see Fig. 6).
To remove the drainage hose 1 Under the stretcher, unscrew the flange nut from the drainage hole. 2 Pull the drainage hose out.
Emergency stop (Concerto® electric only) If, for any reason, the Concerto® electric does not respond to the hand control buttons, stop the raising and lowering movement of the stretcher by pressing the emergency stop button (A) (see Fig. 3). Contact qualified personnel if that happens. If the emergency button is pressed by accident, it can be reset by turning the button clockwise until it pops back out.

Horizontal position The Concerto® and Basic™ always adjust themselves automatically to a horizontal position when lowered onto a bed (see Fig. 1).
Horizontal lock (Concerto® only) The Concerto® is equipped with a special fitting which locks the stretcher in a horizontal position for transport or when the mattress is going to be filled with water. Move the lever (A) to the right to lock the stretcher in a horizontal position (see Fig. 2)
Adjustable back support (Accessory for Concerto®) Pull the head support up to raise it. Make sure that the catches are in a locked position. To lower it, press the catches (A) while gently lowering the head support (see Fig. 3).
Wedge pillow (Accessory) Place wedge pillow at the head end of the mattress (see Fig. 4).

Transfers with Concerto®/Basic™ From bed (22 steps)
10 Fold down the other Concerto®/Basic™ side support, opposite to the transfer side and bed.
WARNING
11 The second caregiver positions Concerto®/ Basic™ over the bed as close as possible to the resident (see Fig. 2).
When raising the side supports visually and physically make sure that both catches have snapped into place. The resident can fall out of the Concerto®/Basic™ and be bodily injured if the catches are not correctly positioned.

WARNING To avoid bodily injury during the transfer, always make sure to apply the brakes on both the bed and the Concerto®/Basic™.
WARNING
Apply the brakes on Concerto®/Basic™ (see Fig. 3).
Make sure that the resident is lying in the middle of the stretcher with his or her arms on the chest to avoid them being pinched or injured.
13 Lower Concerto®/Basic™ until it compresses the mattress on the bed.
WARNING
14 Turn the resident onto his or her back and onto the Concerto®/Basic™.
For safety and to avoid bodily injury, always make sure that there are two caregivers present during transfers.
NOTE To ease the transfer process, use a sliding aid. Please read chapter, From bed with a sliding aid.

4 If using a manual hydraulic Concerto®/ Basic™, make sure the foot pump is turned away from the transfer side. 5 Lower the bed rail on the transfer side, if any. 6
Place one caregiver on each side of the bed.
7 Position the resident close to the transfer side. 8 Turn the resident to his or her side, away from the transfer side. 9
The caregiver, whom the resident is turned towards, holds the resident (see Fig. 1).

WARNING If the resident’s position is not in the middle, the Concerto®/Basic™ may tip over causing serious injury to the resident and the caregiver. Both caregivers need to help the resident towards the middle of the Concerto®/Basic™ (see Fig. 1).
16 Fold up the Concerto®/Basic™ side support, opposite from the transfer side and bed. (see Fig. 2). 17 Place the head cushion under the resident’s head for comfort. 18 Raise the Concerto®/Basic™ enough to clear the bed. 19 Release the brakes on Concerto®/Basic™. 20 Move Concerto®/Basic™ away from the bed and fold up the Concerto®/Basic™ side support on the transfer side (see Fig. 3). 21 Cover the resident if undressed. 22 Adjust the Concerto®/Basic™ to an ergonomic height for the caregivers.
