Please read this manual thoroughly! Please read this manual in its entirety before using your PapilioBBC. Information in the manual is crucial to the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment, and will help protect your product and ensure that the equipment performs to your satisfaction. Some of the information in this booklet is important for your safety and must be read and understood to help prevent possible injury. ARJO strongly advise and warn that only ARJO designed parts, which are designed for the purpose, should be used on equipment and other appliances supplied by ARJO, to avoid injuries attributable to the use of inadequate parts. Unauthorised modifications on any ARJO equipment may effect its safety. ARJO will not be held responsible for any accidents, incidents or lack of performance that occur as a result of any unauthorised modification to its products.

Service and Support A service routine has to be done on your PapilioBBC every year by ARJO authorised service personel to ensure the safety and operating procedures of your product. Safety instructions Anyone using this equipment must also have read and understood the instructions in this manual. If there is anything you are not sure about, ask your ARJO representative. Modifications made to the equipment without expressed consent of ARJO will invalidate the supplier's product liability.

Intended use This therapy tub, with therapy stretcher, is intended for bathing, burn injury treatments and hydrotherapy treatments of hospital adult patients. A qualified evaluation of the patients must always be done by trained nursing staff before using this equipment. The treatment must be performed under the supervision of trained nursing staff and in accordance with the instructions outlined in the Operating and Product Care Instructions. All other uses must be avoided. The equipment must only be used for the purposes stated above, and must be installed according to Assembly and Installation Instructions, which can only be superseded by local regulations. The useful life of this equipment, unless otherwise stated, is ten (10) years, subject to required preventative maintenance as specified in Operating and Product Care Instructions, Assembling and Installation Instructions and Spare Part Catalogue. All equipment fitted must be disinfected according to the instructions established in the Operating and Product Care Instructions.

Training requirements Assisted Bathing/Showering This equipment is only to be used by appropriately trained caregivers with adequate knowledge of the care environment, its common practices and procedures, and in accordance with the guidelines in the Operating and Product Care Instructions.

Installation & Service requirements The Equipment must be installed by appropriately trained personnel according to the Assembling and Installation Instructions. Requirements in the Assembling and Installation Instructions can only be superseded by local code. Always ensure that: • the equipment is handled by authorized and trained staff. •

the water/shower temperature is checked by hand before the bath.

•

equipment is properly disinfected after each bath.

•

your skin and eyes are protected against concentrated disinfectant/cleaner. Carefully follow the instructions on the disinfectant/cleaner bottle!

•

all lifting/transporting equipment is in good condition, follow the instructions for all equipment.

•

there are no sharp edges on parts coming in contact with patients.

•

stretcher is fastened.

•

all safety straps are in good condition and properly fastened.

•

the equipment is not switched off via the main circuit breaker. The main circuit breaker is for emergency situations and service only.

•

Patient assessment We recommend that facilities establish regular assessment routines. Caregivers must assess each patient according to the following criteria prior to use: The patient´s weight must not exceed 160 kg. The patient´s length must be in the range of 140 and 200 cm. If a patient does not meet these criteria an alternative equipment/system should be used.

There is one patient shower on each side of the panel. a

Press the patient shower button on the control panel (the LED above the button indicates when the patient shower is activated). Make sure that there is water flow in the hose for positive drain leakage, by listening. The patient shower can not be activated during tub filling. Lift off the shower handle, hold it over the bath and activate the flow via the knob (a) on the side of the control panel. One for each shower hose/ handle. Allow a few seconds to reach the desired temperature for the water. Direct the water stream away from the patient, and check the preset temperature setting on the display. Adjust, if necessary, the water temperature by means of the buttons on the display.

After every use, rinse the system with fresh water by activating the both patient showers. Let the water flow until it is clear, at least one minute.

If the Hibitane bottle is empty, following will happen to indicate action: •

the buzzer will sound for 5 seconds

•

all function LEDs will be flashing for 5 seconds

•

the text “Stop” will be flashing for 5 seconds

Open the door on the back side of the panel and place a bottle of Hibitane 5% in the bottom of the recess and connect the bottle connection.

Shower handle The patient showers are equipped with a special handle. When the handle is replaced it has to be marked with the date i.e on the label fitted on the handle. The package is marked with expiry date (a).

Also check by placing your hand in the water stream that the water temperature feels correct, before the water stream is directed on to the patient.

NOTE Only use PALL MEDICAL shower handle. Mark the shower handle with date for replacement. Replacement period according to the instructions for the shower handle.

Patient treatment with shower •

WARNING

NOTE

Only use Hibitane 5%. Other liquids can be dangerous for the patient.

The shower is activated and the operational sound is heard but there is no water flow from the showerhandle; This indicates an airlock in the system and require the shower handle to be carefully disconnected from the hose to release the air.

A bottle containing special liquid (Hibitane 5%) is located behind a door on the back of the panel. Adjustment of the liquid mixture can be done on the dosing pump. See separate control instruction of the dosage pump on page 18.

NOTE Maximum mixture ratio with Hibitane 5% is 1% due to the shower handle. a

Press the button (see illustration) on the control panel to activate the treatment liquid.

Start the treament by directing the mixed water stream to the selected part of the patient.

Stop the treatment mixture flow by pressing the button once again.

Stretcher NOTE Always use mattress on the stretcher for comfort to the patient.

WARNING Pay extra attention to the patient when the mattress is wet and by that slippery. In the bath tub is a stretcher (1), where the patient can be showered and treated in a convenient position. The high/low function is controlled via buttons (2) on the panel. The stretcher is in two parts where one part works as an adjustable back rest (3). The side support can be removed by lifting straight up. The foot support can be length adjusted for the safety and convenience for the patient (4). The stretcher can easily be removed and assembled. See illustration (5 a, b, c).

NOTE The stretcher is heavy. It is necessary with two persons when removing and assembling the unit.

WARNING Ensure that the hook (c) is in a locked position after assembling of the stretcher.

Preparations The bath is prepared as follows: a

Alt. I. Close the drainage plug. Alt. II. If needed, a special filter is available to separate undesirable substance from the drain.

Press the tub filling button to fill the tub with water. The level is preset. For adjustments call your Arjo Service Department for assistance. Additional filling is achieved, by pressing the tub filling button continuously. The display shows the filling temperature.

WARNING Always practise supervised bathing. The patient treatment is prepared as follows: a

Transfer See also the separate operating instruction for the lift, which is used. The Maxi Sky Lift with scoop stretcher used in combination with the Papilio BBC:

WARNING Two caregivers are necessary when handling the transfer from sky lift/scoop stretcher to the stretcher in the bath tub. Urgent for the security of the patient!

WARNING Be careful not to put arm or leg between the egde of the bath tub and the frame of the stretcher as the stretcher is not in locked position regarding rotation.

WARNING Ensure that the patient always is lying down and in right direction i.e. the feet nearest the panel. Always use the foot support in a comfortable position for the patient, to get a safe position on the stretcher. 1

Put the bath stretcher without pillow, with the back rest in folded position, to it’s highest position in the tub.

Lower the scoop stretcher with the patient until the bath stretcher is reached.

Loosen the four suspension straps.

Help the patient to turn onto her/his side.

The two sections of the scoop stretcher have to be removed one by one. Loosen the connecting latches and gently pull the section out. Use side support (if applicable) on the bath stretcher for safety.

Put the foot support in right position for the length of the patient. Put the neck pillow in place.

Lower the bath stretcher to a convenient working position for the caregiver.

Give a treatment by the shower or bath the patient.

Disinfection/cleaning instructions For optimal performance, only use Arjo Clean . If you have any questions regarding disinfection of the equipment, or wish to order cleaning fluid, please contact your ARJO Customer Service.

Use an ordinary spray bottle for applying the disinfectant liquid. Mix the Arjo Clean (disinfectant liquid) and water in the spray bottle according to the instructions on the Arjo Clean container.

The following procedure should be carried out after every bath and at the end of the day.

WARNING! Always use protective gloves and protective eye wear when dealing with the disinfectant. Avoid getting it on your skin, in your eyes or on your clothes. If contact occurs, rinse with extensive amounts of water. If skin or eyes become irritated, consult a physician. Carefully follow the instructions on the Arjo Clean. WARNING! Do not spray any person with the disinfectant as it is corrosive!

WARNING! Make sure to rinse the disinfected areas with fresh water as it is corrosive! CAUTION! Use only disinfecting chemicals specifically formulated for bathing systems. Other materials may damage the equipment or be harmful to the patients. Polishing or corrosive agents must not be used. WARNING! Failure to perform proper disinfection between baths of different patients can potentiously lead to serious cross-contamination between patients.

Close the drain. Put the loose parts in the bottom of the tub. With the spray bottle, spray the entire bath tub and loose parts. Spray into the surface overflow outlet. Scrub the tub and loose parts using the disinfectant collected on the bottom of the bath tub. Allow an appropriate contact time for sanitization or disinfection according to the instructions for the disinfectant cleaner. Open the drain. Activate the patient shower and rinse bath tub and accessories carefully with fresh water. After the last cleaning/disinfection for the day, dry the tub and accessories.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLEANING OF STAINLESS STEEL When needed: Removing of fingerprints, grease, soap etc. Use ordinary cleaning-agents and white scotchbrite or a soft brush.

CAUTION Never use green or brown scotchbrite nor steel wool. • • •

Rinse with plenty of fresh water. Dry with a clean rag to avoid water marks. Aftertreat with stainless steel polish to get a preventive coating against fingerprints and water marks.

Removing of lime deposit (watermarks), mini corrosion and discoloration: • Cover the area with stainless steel cleaner and let it work 10-20 minutes

WARNING Use gloves and goggles to protect eyes and skin. Never use ordinary lime remover, because it usually contains hydrochloric acid and that will destroy the stainless steel.

CAUTION The agent can attack plastics, wood, cloth etc. • • •

Rinse with plenty of fresh water. Dry with a clean rag to avoid water marks. Aftertreat with stainless steel polish to get a preventive coating against fingerprints and water marks.

Care and Preventive Maintenance Papilio BBC is subject to wear and tear, and the following actions must be performed when specified to ensure that the product remains within its original manufacturing specification

WARNING The points on this checklist are the minimum the manufacturer recommends. In some cases due to heavy use of the product and exposure to aggressive environment, more frequent inspections should be carried out. Continuing to use this product without conducting regular inspections or continuing to use this product when a fault is found will seriously compromise the user and patients safety. Customer obligations shall be carried out by personnel with sufficient knowledge following the instructions in this manual. Trouble shooting If the product does not work as intended, immediately contact your local ARJO representative for support.

Check/clean filters for incoming water : A rinsing valve with a filter is mounted on each of the two water supply hoses found under the front cover. The filter in both valves should be rinsed as follows: Close the valves (a). The handles (red for hot water and blue for cold) should be in a cross position.

Salt (chloride iones) will affect all stainless steel (so called pit corrosion may arise). When adding salt to the water, always rinse carefully with freshwater and wipe dry immediately after use. Always dissolve any additives thoroughly in water before adding to filled tub. Clean the tub after every use. Iodine, bromine and methylene blue can discolour stainless steel.

Visually check all exposed parts, especially parts in contact with patient or caregiver. Make sure that no cracks or sharp edges could cause injury or become unhygienic. Check mechanical attachments : Check that all screws and nuts are tightened and that there are no gaps. Visually check hoses, pipes and connections : Visually inspect for leaks of any kind by looking under the tub. Perform functionality test: Test all panel functions and lifting functions. With water on: check shower hose and shower handle for damage.

WARNING Pressurised system. Make sure that the valve is closed before removing the cap, this is especially important for the hot water valve- risk of scalding. 1 2 3 4

Remove the cap (b) with a wrench. Pull out the filter (c) and clean it carefully in water. Reassemble. Open the valves.

Every year Papilio BBC has to be serviced according to the Preventive Maintenance Schedule (Qualified personnel Action/Check).

Flush until exactly one deciliter of concentrated liquid has been sucked up from the small container, then move the shower handle back into large container nr 1 and then close the shower valve.

Check the liquid level in container nr 2. This should contain 10 liters generated solution. Is there more than 10 liters the scale value is too high, and less means that the scale value on the dosage pump are too low.

Fill the 5 dl container with concentrated liquid and place the suction hose from the Dosatron inside it. Open the shower valve and flush into one of the large containers (nr 1). When the level reaches one of the dl lines in the small container, put the shower handle in the other large container (nr 2).

Measure/Solution If the scale value shows too high or too low mix in, the dosage pump needs to be calibrated, repaired or perhaps be exchanged - please contact your ARJO Customer Service.
