1 INTRODUCTION This quick start user manual covers the following Atherton sterilizers •
All Tangent Series Sterilizers
•
All Cyber Series Sterilizers
As such it is important when reading this manual to only refer to the sections that relate to your unit. To aid the reader where appropriate we have used the name Tangent to refer to the Tangent sterilizers and the name Cyber to refer to the Cyber Series units. As a general note all functionality available in the Tangent Gorilla is available in the Tangent Mongoose and Tiger units. However due to the extensive range of features in the Cyber Series it is important to refer only to the items that relate to your model sterilizer, for example you may have a double door unit but unless you have a barrier seal the section on door security is not relevant to your unit this section only refers to the operation of the doors for units which have a barrier seal. If you have any queries regarding the features of your Atherton sterilizer please contact you Atherton representative.
WARNINGS & CAUTIONS Throughout this manual reference is made to:

Select Specific Cycle
Using the buttons on this screen select the PRE VAC CYCLE button.
The operating parameters that will be applied to the selected cycle are displayed in the centre of the screen. Because the cycle chosen is a variable cycle there is the option of modifying the parameters. This option is only available to users who have supervisory level access. If you do not want to modify any operating parameters proceed to 2.1.3. To modify the parameters touch the value, in this case I am going to change the sterilizing temperature and the holding time. Before I can modify these parameters I have to enter the supervisor password:

In this case I am going to change the sterilizing temperature from 134°C to 121°C and at the same time alter the holding time to 15 minutes.
Now that I am happy with the operating parameters I select the START CYCLE button.
2.1.3
Select The Start Cycle Button
This will cause the display to change to the Operating Screen – each screen is tailored to display the parameters of the cycle, in this case the Pre Vac Cycle has three operating parameters: Sterilizing Temperature, Holding Time & Drying Time:

3 USEFUL GUIDELINES DO NOT OVERLOAD THE STERILIZER. Avoid contact of the load with the walls of the sterilizer.
STERILIZE LIQUIDS SEPARATELY FROM OTHER GOODS Your sterilizer must be validated at least annually to confirm adequate performance. Contact your Atherton office for details.
Fluids must only be processed in a fluid cycle and closures must be vented. Failure to do so may result in injury Care must be taken to avoid contact between bare skin and the sterilizer chamber and door surfaces. Appropriate protective clothing should be worn. Insulated gloves are recommended as a minimum. Failure to do so may result in severe burns. Ensure your hands and fingers are not near the door or chamber when operating. Failure to do so may result in injury.
3.1
UNLOADING THE STERILIZER Care must be taken to avoid contact between bare skin and sterilizer chamber, door, carriage, basket and load. Appropriate protective clothing should be worn. Insulated gloves are recommended as a minimum. Failure to do so may result in severe burns. To remove the load, slide the tray forward until the stop is reached, or roll the carriage onto the transfer trolley Personnel must not enter the chamber unless they are carrying out maintenance to the sterilizer. 4 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES SHOULD BE PERFORMED AT REGULAR INTERVALS, AS INDICATED, AND IS THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM. IF STERILIZER USAGE IS INCREASED, THE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME SHOULD INCREASE. When entry to the chamber is required or prior to any maintenance the following must be carried out: 1.
Turn isolating valve on steam supply to off position.
2.
Turn power switch off, located behind the hinged front cover.
3.
Turn off the power at the supply power switch then remove the plug from the switch. Confirm power to the control system has been isolated.
4.
Allow the sterilizer and loading equipment to cool.
The safety, performance and reliability of your equipment cannot be assured unless regular maintenance is performed, preferably by accredited Technicians. We invite you to return to us for all your service needs both during and after the warranty period.
Failure to have proper maintenance services carried out will void your warranty.
If correct maintenance guidelines are followed, you may look forward to many years of reliable service from your equipment.

4.1 CLEANING Chamber, Door and Loading Equipment (Weekly) Never use a wire brush or steel wool on the chamber, door or loading equipment. The chamber must be cold prior to cleaning.
Remove the chamber drain strainer and flush under running water. The Ha-Ra system is recommended for cleaning of the Sterilizer.
Ultra Blue Glove Scrubs and loosens any residue and build up. To use immerse the glove in cold water and wring out the excess water. White Short Glove This is the follow on glove that will collect the excess water and the dirt that has been loosened by the Ultra Blue glove. This system can be used on almost any surface in the CSSD. The door gasket should be removed and cleaned as required, depending on the quality of the steam.
4.2 DOOR (Weekly) Check operation of door leading and trailing edge safety switches.
If the leading and trailing edge safety switches do not operate, the Sterilizer is to be immediately shut down until repairs have been carried out.
