Instrument Preparation
INSTRUCTIONS Note: The Magnum biopsy instrument must be in the 22mm position as this configuration provides optimal access to the internal areas for cleaning. Remove and discard the needle assembly. Further disassembly of the Magnum instrument is not recommended.
Initial Rinse
Prepare a rinse bath with cool tap water. Note: The Magnum biopsy instrument must be in the 22mm position as this configuration provides optimal access to the internal areas for cleaning. Remove and discard the needle assembly. Further disassembly of the Magnum instrument is not recommended. With the lid open, rinse the instrument by a) agitating the instrument under the water level, b) brining the instrument above the water level, and c) re-immersing the instrument under the water level. Repeat this process until there is no visible evidence of the cleaning solution. Note: The instrument should not be rinsed under running water as this may cause splashing and contamination of user.
Enzymatic Presoak
Using warm tap water, prepare enough multi-tiered enzymatic cleaner (e.g., Ruhol® Endozime® AW Plus or Getinge® Renuzyme WR Enzymatic Cleaner), following the manufacturer’s instructions, to completely cover the Magnum® instrument. Allow the Magnum instrument with the lid open to soak in the cleaner for a minimum of 30 minutes at ambient temperature.
Manual Cleaning
While holding the instrument under the solution level and using a soft-bristle brush, brush all accessible surfaces inside and out for a minimum of one minute with the enzymatic solution to remove blood and/or debris. Pull and hold the white cocking slide back once and brush the inside of the device for one additional minute to ensure the brush reaches all accessible areas inside the device. While moving the white cocking slide back and forth, use a sterile syringe filled with the enzymatic cleaning solution and flush hard-to-reach areas such as threads and crevices with the enzymatic cleaning solution.
Rinse
Prepare a rinse bath with cool tap water to completely cover the instrument. With the lid open, rinse the instrument by a) agitating the instrument under the water level, b) bringing the instrument above the water level, and c) re-immersing the instrument under the water level. Repeat this process until there is no visible evidence of the cleaning solution. Actuate the instrument while in the rinse water to ensure the rinse water reaches the hard-to-reach areas. Note: The instrument should not be rinsed under running water as this may cause splashing and contamination of user.
Sonication
Fill a sonicator with fresh multi-tiered enzymatic cleaner solution prepared by following the manufacturer’s instructions using warm processed water (e.g., deionized water). Ensure there is enough water in the sonicator unit to come into contact with the rack/tray once it is inserted into the sonicator. Take care to not place other instruments on the Magnum instrument. Place rack/tray in sonicator and turn on the sonicator for a minimum of 30 minutes before inserting the instrument into the bath (per manufacturer’s instructions for degassing). Ensure the lid of the instrument is open and the device is facing upward. Place the instrument into the rack/tray. Sonicate the instrument for a minimum of 30 minutes.

STEP Final Rinse
INSTRUCTIONS After sonication, prepare a rinse bath with cool tap water.
Inspection
Inspect the instrument to ensure that all debris or soil has been removed. Inspection should be performed in a well-lit area. If there is any visible evidence of debris, or soil, repeat all the aforementioned steps until there is no visible evidence of debris or soil remaining.
