Quick Reference Guide MBJ20 Jaundice Detector 1. Remove MBJ20 Jaundice Detector from the case and remove the probe cover. Wipe probe with an alcohol swab to remove any traces of skin cells, vernix or blood. 2. Turn the MBJ20 Jaundice Detector ON. The unit software version will display on the screen and then 00.0mg/dL will display. 3. Press the RESET button and wait for the READY light to illuminate. 4. Press the orange SET button to change units to µmol/L. This will need to be done every time the device is turned on. 5. Press device probe gently against the baby’s forehead or sternum until the probe flashes. The probe must be held perpendicular to the baby’s skin or there may be an error in the measurement. 6. The device is set to take an average of 3 readings. Press RESET after each reading and wait for the READY light to illuminate before pressing to forehead or sternum. Ensure all 3 readings are taken from the same position. Correlation with the Serum Bilirubin Reading (SBR) can be up to 50 µmol/L difference as two different origins for the bilirubin are being used- serum vs transcutaneous. 7. After 3 readings have been taken the average will then be displayed on the screen. 8. Once completed turn the device OFF. 9. Wipe the probe with an alcohol swab. Replace probe cap and return to case.
