FOREWORD

This manual has been written for the owners and operators of the Adapta® Mesa Physical Therapy Platforms. It contains general instructions for operation, precautionary instructions, and maintenance recommendations. In order to obtain maximum life and efficiency from your Adapta Mesa Physical Therapy Platform, and to assist in the proper operation of the unit, read and understand this manual thoroughly. The specifications put forth in this manual were in effect at the time of the publication. However, owing to Chattanooga Group’s policy of continuous improvement, changes to these specifications may be made at any time without obligation on the part of Chattanooga Group. Before administering any treatment to a patient, you should become acquainted with the operating procedures, as well as the cautions, warnings, and dangers. Consult other resources for additional information regarding the application of physical therapy.

Product Description The Adapta Mesa Physical Therapy Platform was designed specifically for the purpose of aiding in the administration of manual therapy techniques and physical therapy. Enhanced with a scissor mechanism base, the Adapta Mesa provides a smooth, vertical lift while maintaining a stable surface for the patient. Each cushion has a slight contour, giving the patient a greater sense of security. Comfortable seated patient positioning can be achieved with the use of the Back Section pivoting up to 80°. The integrated retractable caster system allows relocation of the table at any time. This equipment is to be used only under the prescription and supervision of a licensed practitioner.

Portable and mobile RF communications equipment can affect Medical Electrical Equipment. • This table generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to other devices in the vicinity. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. Harmful interference to other devices can be determined by turning this table on and off. Try to correct the interference using one or more of the following: reorient or relocate the receiving device, increase the separation between the equipment, connect the table to an outlet on a different circuit from that which the other device(s) are connected, and consult the Chattanooga Group Service Department for help. • Keep table out of high moisture environments. • This table should be operated, transported and stored in temperatures between 0° F (-18° C) and 104° F (40° C), with relative humidity ranging from 30% - 80%. • Do not exceed table weight capacity of 450 lbs (204 kg).

SETUP CONTENTS OF CARTON After removing top and side panels of shipping carton, you may notice metal bands or plastic straps. These are used to secure various sections of the table and must be removed before the table can be lifted out. The table must be lifted directly upward in order to clear all shipping restraints.

Detach the Elevation Lever Assembly from the table by cutting the tie-straps, unwrap and place to the side for assembly.

Remove the additional hardware from the carton.

Visually inspect the table and Elevation Lever for damage. Report any damage to the carrier immediately.

A MINIMUM OF TWO PEOPLE WILL BE REQUIRED TO LIFT AND MOVE THE TABLE. TABLE SHOULD BE LIFTED BY THE BASE FRAME.

• Carefully remove the box from around the table and cushions. If a knife is used to open the box, use caution so as not to cause damage to the cushions. • Do not lift the table by the Head Section or under the foot pedals on each end.

CUSHION/GAS SPRING ASSEMBLY Connect the Mains Power Cord to the Mains Power Cord Receptacle. Verify that there is a good connection between the Mains Power Cord and the Mains Power Cord Receptacle. Always make certain that the Mains Power Cord is properly plugged into the table.

RAISE TABLE

Raise the table to the maximum height by pressing the right foot pedal of one of the six sets that surround the table. Unplug the table. Place one of the cushions (cushions are identical) on a clean floor with the padded side down as shown.

To secure the cushion to the frame, insert four 20 mm buttonhead screws (Parts Group C) into the two tabs and bar of the base frame and tighten with the 4 mm hex wrench.

Loosely fasten each hinge (Parts Group A) to the back of the cushion with four 30 mm button-head screws (Parts Group B) as shown. Repeat this process for the other hinge.

NOTE: Do not over-tighten the screws. Position the cushion on the Head Section of the table as shown (the end of the table that is opposite to the Retractable Caster Pedals).

Lay the other cushion on a clean floor with the padded side down. Place the Elevation Lever Assembly (Parts Group D) on the cushion so that the appropriate holes align as shown.

Secure the Elevation Lever Assembly to the cushion with four 20 mm button-head screws (Parts Group C) and the 4 mm hex wrench. Repeat this procedure for the other side. NOTE: Start the bottom two screws first, then the head two screws.

Using only your fingers, fasten the outer tab of the frame to the middle hole of the hinge using one 20 mm button-head screw (Parts Group C). Repeat this procedure for the other hinge.

Insert the threaded end of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) into the hole in the Elevation Lever Assembly (Parts Group D).

Lay the Back Section Cushion onto the base frame of the table.

Using only your fingers, turn the Gas Spring clockwise in the hole until it is snug.

Loosely fasten each hinge (Parts Group A) to the back of the cushion with four 30 mm buttonhead screws (Parts Group B) with the 4 mm hex wrench.

Without loosening the threaded end, make sure the eyelet of the other end of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) is parallel with the table as shown.

NOTE: Go back and tighten all screws with the 4mm hex wrench.

Grasping the shaft of the Gas Spring, rotate the Gas Spring counter clockwise 1 ½ times back out of the Elevation Lever Assembly.

Raise the Back Section Cushion completely.

CUSHION/GAS SPRING ASSEMBLY CONTINUED Slide the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) through the base frame and the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) eyelet. NOTE: You may have to engage the Elevation Lever to lower the Back Section in order to align the Gas Spring with the base frame holes. NOTE: In this step, you are testing the settings of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E). Leave the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) loose and do not add the spacers (Parts Group G). Without engaging the Elevation Lever (Parts Group D), try to pull down on the Back Section Cushion using minimal force. NOTE: If the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) is set correctly, it will be locked, and you should not be able to pull down on the cushion. If you are able to pull down on the Back Section Cushion, remove the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) of the Gas Spring. Grasp the shaft of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) with both hands and rotate the Gas Spring ½ turn counter clockwise. Reinsert the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) and repeat this procedure until you are unable to pull the cushion down.

While engaging the Elevation Lever (Parts Group D), pull down on the Back Section Cushion (using minimal force) so that the cushion is horizontal. NOTE: If the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) is set correctly, the cushion should move smoothly (using some force). Also, keep in mind that the Gas Spring is intended to provide resistance, even when the Elevation Lever (Parts Group D) is engaged. Depending on your level of strength, some people may have to exert more force than others. If while engaging the Elevation Lever, the Back Section Cushion does not move smoothly to the horizontal position, remove the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) of the Gas Spring. Grasp the shaft of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) with both hands and rotate the Gas Spring ½ turn clockwise. Re-insert

Attach the nut (Parts Group H) at the end of the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F). Tighten with the 5 mm hex wrench on one side and the 13 mm (or adjustable) wrench on the other. Repeat steps on pages 14-16 for the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) on the other side of the table.

Press the Gas Spring Release Cover (Parts Group I) onto the Gas Spring assembly and insert a 10 mm flat-head screw (Parts Group J) on each side.

Add a spacer (Parts Group G) between the base frame and the Gas Spring (Parts Group E). Slide the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) back through the base frame, spacer, and Gas Spring.

Tighten the 10 mm flat-head screws (Parts Group J) with the 2 mm Hex Wrench. Repeat this procedure for each Gas Spring Release Cover (Parts Group I).

Add another spacer (Parts Group G) on the other side of the Gas Spring (Parts Group E) and slide the rest of the shoulder bolt (Parts Group F) into the second spacer (Parts Group G) and through the other side of the base frame.

NOTE: Make sure that the 10 mm flat-head screws (Parts Group J) are tightened to reduce the potential of scraping the base frame. Wipe the cushions down after assembly is complete. NOTE: Go back and tighten all hardware with the tools previously mentioned.

ADJUSTING TABLE SECTIONS

• When making adjustments to the table sections, make certain the patient is removed before adjusting.

• Never place your hands or feet near the working mechanism of the table when making any and all adjustments to height or table sections. Moving parts could cause pinch points. Removing Nose Plug For prone positioning of the patient, remove the Nose Plug for comfortability.

Raising and Lowering Table with Foot Pedals There are twelve foot pedals that surround the table. The right foot pedal of each set will raise the table. The left foot pedal of each set will lower the table. There are three different ways of depressing the foot pedals to adjust the table height: 1. With the toe of your foot under the foot pedal, press the foot pedal up until the desired table height is reached.

Elevating / Lowering the Back Section Pull the Back Section Elevation Lever, located under the Back Section Cushion. Raise or lower the Back Section to the desired angle. NOTE: The Back Section can be raised up from 0° - 80°. Release the Back Section Elevation Lever to lock section in place.

OPERATION RELOCATING THE TABLE

Never transport a patient on the Adapta Mesa Physical Therapy Platform. This table is not designed to support a patient during transport. Locking the Casters After moving the table to the desired location, raise the Retractable Caster Pedal with the toe of the shoe. This will lock the casters in place to prevent swiveling, rolling, or moving of the table.

Unlocking the Casters Push the Retractable Caster Pedal completely down with the foot. This will allow the table to be moved to the desired location.
