Operation Manual Addendum  The User Maintenance Section (section 4) of the Aestiva Operation Manual (Part 2) includes information that details “ How to prevent water build-up .” This guide includes additional information that can help to prevent water build-up.  Moisture handling guide While most of our Aestiva machine customers do not experience difficulty with moisture, under certain circumstances, such as low flow anesthesia, long cases, or cold rooms, you may experience build-up of moisture in the breathing system. There are several things that can be done to help the anesthesia system handle water condensation under these conditions:  Drain  Absorber Drain Plug  • With a Circle Breathing Module, push the drain button for a minimum of 10 seconds to drain condensate into the absorber. The silvercolored drain button is located behind the hinged door under the flow sensors. Ideally, the Circle Breathing Module should be drained at the end of each case. • If you notice moisture in the absorber, open the drain plug at the bottom of the absorber, to drain any moisture out of the absorber. • Between cases, after discarding the old breathing circuit, allow the machine to remain open to air until needed for the next case. Attach the new breathing circuit immediately before each case, rather than at the end of the previous case. • At the end of the final case of the day, remove the inspiratory and expiratory flow sensor module and set it on the machine tabletop to dry overnight. Remove the sensor module while the machine is powered up. This will automatically result in a daily inspiratory/expiratory sensor calibration as well. If the machine needs to be in a “ready to use” state, such as in OB or trauma, alternate the sensor module with the spare sensor module shipped with each Aestiva machine. • If you see the message “V T Comp Off ”-V T Compensation Off-this means that the ventilator detects a problem with the data coming from the flow sensors and will move the bellows as indicated by set Tidal Volume. However, the volume delivered to the patient may be different than set value, depending on fresh gas flow and patient/breathing circuit compliance. Titrate the tidal volume setting to achieve the desired exhaled tidal volume and continue to use the ventilator without Tidal Volume compensation. Alternatively, you may choose to use Pressure Control ventilation. Keep your spare flow sensor module ready to go. If a “ Check Flw Sensors w ”, “ Insp Flow Sensor Fail ”, or an “ Exp Flow Sensor Fail” message appears that cannot be corrected, it can be quickly addressed by changing the flow sensor module.  1006-0897-000 06/01
