ENGLISH Two elements The Circuplode inductive electrode is provided with separate adaptor for optional connection of a second Circuplode [1]. Connection Before connecting or disconnecting the adaptor, set the clock of your shortwave equipment to 0. The adaptor of the Circuplode should be connected to the outputs of your Curapuls shortwave equipment [3/4]. If your equipment has four outputs, use the upper two. Note that Enraf-Nonius equipment has been fitted with an earth contact (between the two outputs); the central pin of the adaptor fits this precisely. Warning:: if your equipment does not have this earth contact, please notify your dealer and do not use the Circuplode. Connect the adaptor to the shortwave unit. It can be plugged in at random [2]. Connect the Circuplode to one of the two screw connections [3]. If desired, two Circuplodes can be attached, allowing for instance simultaneous segmental and local treatment [5]. Dosage The Circuplode is a pure magnetic field radiator; the electric field component is effectively filtered out by the complete screening. The result is that superficial heating is reduced and effects in deeper tissues are accentuated. Consequently, it will take longer for the patient to feel a sensation of warmth. Using one Circuplode
Continuous shortwave therapy For continuous shortwave therapy it is recommended to adjust the intensity at the outset of treatment to imperceptible heat. In most cases the patient will begin to feel a sensation of warmth in 5-7 minutes. If necessary the intensity can than be corrected. However, the intensity control should never exceed position 6.
netic field behaviour identical to that of one attached Circuplode. The interaction of the magnetic fields is slight, even if the Circuplodes are positioned a relatively small distance apart. However, the power distribution depends on the load. If the load of the two Circuplodes is different, the effects and thermal sensations will also be different. Therefore it is recommended to equalize the loads for both Circuplodes. Because the power is divided over both Circuplodes, the intensity or pulse repetition frequency must be set higher. For normal loads the intensity may be advanced to position 9 (continuous / pulsed).
Remarks • The adaptor and Circuplode must never be connected or disconnected when an intensity has been set. • Never turn the Circuplode on when not applied to a patient. If two Circuplodes are attached and only one is to be used, the unused Circuplode should be detached from the adaptor before treatment is begun. • Ensure that the patient has adopted a stable and comfortable position. Place the front of the Circuplode centrally on the part of the body to be treated; it is recommended to first cover the part to be treated with a towel. During treatment the patient must remain still. • The sides and back of the Circuplode, the connecting lead and the adaptor are HF neutral and may be touched during treatment. • For further information on treatment with the Circuplode we refer you to the booklet Shortwave Therapy supplied with your shortwave equipment. Cleaning and maintenance The Circuplode, connecting lead and adaptor can be cleaned with a moist cloth. If necessary, a mild household detergent can be used. During cleaning, the adaptor must be disconnected from the equipment.
Pulsed shortwave therapy With pulsed shortwave, the intensity control should never exceed position 8. The maximum pulse repetition frequency recommended for non-thermal application is 82 (intensity set at 8). After 5-7 minutes the patient must be asked about thermal sensation. If desired, the intensity or pulse repetition frequency can then be adjusted.
Handle your Circuplode with care. Mechanical shocks and/or vibrations should be avoided; don’t drop the Circuplode!
Using two Circuplodes When two Circuplodes are connected, each of them has a mag-
Opening the Circuplode and unauthorized attempts at repair can adversely affect the safety of the electrode and are therefore not permitted.
In areas of extremely high humidity, sparking may occur in the Circuplode or the shortwave equipment; this can be heard as a soft crackling noise. If this occurs, reduce the intensity. Avoid protracted sparking because this can lead to permanent damage!
