ENGLISH Contraindications Air support therapy is not recommended when spinal stability is a concern. Indications for Use This device is intended to treat and prevent decubitus ulcers (bedsores) and provide air support therapy. Models SC402, SC440, SC460 and SC427 are for single patient use only. Do not reuse. Models SC840 and SC427E are reusable. A. Preparing the bed 1.
Standing at the foot end of the bed, unroll the cushion so that the air valve will be on the right side.
2.
Place the corner straps around the bed mattress.
3.
The bed cushion may be inflated with or without a patient on it. Place a sheet and incontinence pad (if required) over the cushion.
E. Maintaining patient comfort and protection The Sof•Care Bed Cushion normally has an underinflated appearance. It may seem to need more air when it really doesn't. The best way to determine if the cushion is properly inflated is by performing a HAND CHECK. To perform the HAND CHECK: Place hand under the Bed Cushion, beneath the patient's buttocks. Hand must be positioned with palm up and fingers flat. (If fingers are flexed, the HAND CHECK will be misleading.) If patient does not touch hand, the Bed Cushion does not require reinflation. If patient does touch hand, reinflate using an Inflator or a manual pump and adapter (shown in steps “B”, “C” or “D”) until patient's buttocks no longer touch hand. Perform the HAND CHECK every 8 hours and after each inflation. CAUTION Check skin frequently. Consult physician if any redness or skin break occurs. Serious injury could result if left untreated.
4. Unscrew the blue cap from the air valve.
F. Deflating Sof•Care Cushion
B. Inflating Sof•Care Cushion with a Gaymar SC500 series Inflator
1.
Unscrew the blue cap.
2.
For slow or partial deflation, insert pen point or other device into one of the four holes in the valve disc. Air will escape slowly.
3.
For fast or complete deflation, pull tab to remove disc from air valve.
1.
Insert inflator into air valve. Turn on inflator for 60 seconds. Inflator automatically avoids putting too much air into the cushion.
2.
Remove inflator, turn it off, and tighten the blue cap.
C. Inflating Sof•Care Cushion with a non-Gaymar manual pump 1.
Use any manual pump. The patient must be off the cushion when inflating it.
2.
Replace the standard cap with a model SC535 Sof•Care Inflation Adapter. Attach adapter to the air valve. Attach pump to adapter and manually inflate the cushion.
3.
Leave the side holes of the adapter open. The side holes allow additional air to enter, enabling the cushion to inflate faster. The noise you will hear is the air being drawn in through the openings. It may take up to 200-300 strokes to fill the cushion properly.
4.
Use HAND CHECK procedure to determine proper inflation (See Step E).
5.
Remove adapter. Replace blue cap tightly.
6.
Place sheet over cushion. Position patient on cushion.
NOTE: •
Overinflation may damage the bed cushion.
D. Inflating Sof•Care cushion with a Gaymar HCP700 series manual inflator 1.
The patient must be off the cushion when inflating it.
2.
Unscrew the standard cap and screw the HCP700 series manual inflator on to the air valve.
3.
Manually inflate the cushion using the number of strokes indicated on the inflator (approximately 50 strokes for Sof•Care).
4.
Unscrew HCP700 series inflator and replace standard cap tightly.
5.
Place sheet over cushion. Position patient on cushion.
WARNING Deflate before CPR or CPR will be ineffective. G. Caring for Sof•Care Cushions Sof•Care cushions are easy to maintain. Perform the following care and cleaning to assure proper performance and reliability. 1.
Deflate the Sof•Care cushion prior to cleaning. Clean cushion with a mild disinfectant or soap and water. Wipe dry. Do not use solvents or alcohol.
2.
Note: Blood and other body fluids must be throroughly cleaned from all surfaces before apply disinfectant. Apply a disinfectant such as a 10% chlorinated bleach solution (chlorinated bleach with 5.25% sodium hydrochlorite) to the external surfaces of the overlay. Allow to completely dry. The solution contact time is what makes disinfection effective. Wipe down the overlay with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess disinfectant.
H. Sof•Care Cushion Warranties Standard Sof•Care cushions are warranted for 30 days. The Sof•Care Plus SC427 and SC427E are long term Sof•Care Bed Cushions and are warranted for 180 days. The Sof•Care Plus SC840 long term Sof•Care Bed Cushion is warranted for 2 years.
