About this manual Intended use of this manual This manual contains instructions for the planned and corrective maintenance of the CARESCAPE Canvas D19 secondary display. This manual must be used in conjunction with the monitor’s service manual for important safety and installation information. Use the manual as a guide for maintenance procedures and repairs considered field repairable. Where necessary the manual identifies additional sources of relevant information and technical assistance. See the monitor’s service manual for an overview of the patient monitoring system, information needed for system installation and for planned and corrective maintenance of the monitor. See the monitor’s supplemental information provided for the technical specifications, default settings and compatibility information, including electromagnetic compatibility. See the monitor’s user manual for the instructions necessary to operate the device safely in accordance with its function and intended use.

Other naming conventions In this manual, the CARESCAPE Canvas 1000 is referred to as the monitor. It may also be referred to as Canvas 1000. For technical documentation purposes, the abbreviation GE is used for the legal entity names, GE Medical Systems Information Technologies, Inc., and GE Healthcare Finland Oy. In this manual the CARESCAPE Canvas D19 is referred to as the D19 display or secondary display.

Introduction CARESCAPE Canvas D19 WARNING EQUIPMENT DAMAGE. To prevent liquids from entering the display casing, do not tilt the display more than +/-15 degrees. WARNING ELECTRIC SHOCK. Always unplug the grounded data cables when not in use. Leaving them connected could result in an electric shock from the ground contact in the other end. WARNING LOSS OF MONITORING. If there is a power failure (e.g., the supply mains is interrupted or the USB cable is disconnected), the D19 display gives a continuous beeping alarm. This alarm remains active for as long as there is some residual power left, or until it is silenced with the standby button, or until the USB cable is reconnected or the supply mains is restored. If this alarm is not recognized and sufficient power to the display is not ensured, this may lead to loss of monitoring. A power failure alarm is also indicated by the alarm light flashing yellow. WARNING MISSED ALARMS. Using other displays than system specific ones may result in loss of visual alarms and patient monitoring. WARNING BEFORE INSTALLATION. Compatibility is critical to safe and effective use of this device. Verify the compatibility of all system components and device interfaces, including hardware and software versions, prior to installation and use. The D19 display can be used as a secondary, independent display option for Canvas 1000 (only with Dual Video license).

D19 display connectors
1. Equipotential connector. For measurements in or near the heart we recommend connecting the secondary display to the potential equalization system (IEC 60601–1) to ensure equal potential levels between the devices in the system. 2. Functional description
Power entry unit The power entry unit consists of an appliance inlet and a mains filter assembly, including a protective earth connection to the device chassis. The fuses in the appliance inlet provide the input protection. The AC/DC power supply cables connect to the mains filter assembly.
AC/DC power supply unit The AC/DC power supply unit is a compact, medical, switched-mode power supply with universal AC input, including a protective earth connection to the device chassis. The high-efficiency design minimizes heat dissipation. The AC/DC power supply is conduction cooled to its bottom plate, which is thermally connected to a device heat sink. The AC input may vary between 90 and 264 Vac, from 47 to 63 Hz single phase. It provides 16 Vdc ±3% and 48 W of continuous output power for the CPUC assembly. The AC/DC power supply unit has overload and overvoltage protections.
Display board The display board has an integrated graphic processor providing an LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) interface for the integrated 19" LCD panel. It also has DC/DC subsystem controls and generates operation voltages to other subsystems. The display has a speaker that provides audible alarms. The audio interface originates from the digital I2S interface in the display board. The board has an audio codec to convert the digital audio signal to an analog audio signal and an amplifier to amplify the audio signal for the speaker. The speaker cable is connected to the display board. The display provides four external USB interfaces (one USB type B interfaces and three USB type A interfaces): • USB type B port in the connector panel is used to connect the display to the USB interface of host monitor.

• Three external USB type A ports originate from the USB hub located in the display board. These external high-speed USB connections are intended for the USB input devices. The USB ports provide 5 V/500 mA.
Display The display has a 19" LCD panel with an integrated, long-life LED backlight unit that is used to illuminate the LCD display. The LED backlight unit receives the +12 V input from the display board. The backlight enable signal and brightness control is from the display board.
Touchscreen The D19 display has a capacitive touchscreen sensor in the front of the LCD panel. The touchscreen sensor detects the presence and location of a touch within the display area and communicates the information to the host monitor using USB communication.
Button board The button board contains buttons for the devices' on/standby and on-screen display (OSD) functions. The OSD button operation may be disabled from certain configurations. The button signals are wired to the display board. The button board also contains indicator LEDs for the device's "on" condition indication and the presence of the AC mains indicator. The LEDs are driven by the display board.
User interface controller (UIC) board The UIC board manages the following functions: • Alarm light control: Alarm light LEDs located in the alarm light board are controlled by the UIC according to the information received from the display board. In case of a power failure, the UIC can control the alarm light LEDs independently of the other systems in the device. • Ambient light sensor: The UIC digitizes the information received from the ambient light sensor located in the alarm light board and passes it to the medical application software in the host monitor. The medical application software in the host monitor adjusts the brightness of the display according to the ambient light information received from the UIC controller. • Buzzer: Functions as a back-up speaker in case of a power or main speaker failure.
Alarm light board The alarm light board contains RGB LEDs to indicate different priority visual alarm light indicators and the silence alarm indicator. The LEDs are driven by the alarm light board and controlled by the user interface controller (UIC) board. The alarm light board also contains a light sensor that can measure the ambient light intensity. The ambient light feedback can be used to auto-adjust the LED backlight brightness of the LCD panel to different ambient light conditions. The analog ambient light intensity signal is wired to the UIC for AD conversion.
Cooling The D19 display uses convection cooling. The device is built around a single aluminum cast heat sink to which all major heat-producing parts are attached. The ventilation openings are in the rear of the device.

Planned and corrective maintenance About the maintenance check procedures This chapter describes the planned and corrective maintenance check procedures for the product. To help ensure the equipment remains in proper operational and functional order and maintains its essential performance and basic safety, follow the corrective and planned maintenance recommendations. The tests that are related to the essential performance and basic safety are marked with the *. The cleaning precautions, cleaning requirements, cleaning procedures, and recommended cleaning solutions are described in the monitor’s cleaning and disinfection supplement. Record the results of the planned and the corrective maintenance check procedures to the eCheckforms delivered in the electronic manual media. WARNING SAFETY HAZARD. To avoid risks to personnel and patient, or damage to the equipment, only perform maintenance procedures described in this manual. Unauthorized modifications can lead to safety hazards.
Planned maintenance WARNING PATIENT SAFETY. Planned maintenance must be carried out at the specified interval. Failure to implement the maintenance schedule may cause equipment failure and possible health hazards. Perform the planned maintenance procedure completely every two years after installation. Turn off the monitor and the display. Press the on/standby button on both devices. When a message prompts you, press the power button a second time. The monitor and display are now turned off.

Performing functional check
Checking the startup 1.
Turn on the D19 display by pressing on the on/standby button on the display. Check the following from the D19 display: • The power indicator is lit. • The red, blue, and yellow alarm lights are lit momentarily. • The blue pause audio alarm indicator is lit momentarily.

Turn on the host monitor by pressing the on/standby button on the monitor. After the host monitor starts up, check the following from the D19 display: • The monitoring screen appears on the display.
3.
On the host monitor, select Alarms Setup > Audible & Visual and adjust the alarm volume. Check that D19 display speaker gives an audible alarm.
Checking picture quality 1.
Check that all text is readable and all images are clear.
2.
Check that the display brightness is adequate in the use environment. Adjust if necessary.
Testing touchscreen control 1.
To check the touchscreen operation, touch a corner of an active parameter window or one of the main menu keys. Check that the related menu is opened.

Testing the mouse Perform this test only if a mouse is connected to the D19 display. 1.
Move the mouse until the pointer (arrow) is over an active parameter window or a main menu item you wish to select and click the left mouse button once to select it.

Verify that a correct window or a menu opens.

Testing the keyboard Perform this test only if a keyboard is connected to the D19 display. 1.
Select Data & Pages > Admit/ Discharge (or Start/ End Case).

Select Patient tab > Edit Name & MRN.

Enter some data into the Medical Record Number field using the keyboard. Include characters that are specific to the chosen keyboard locale.
4.
Check that the keyboard language configuration is correct.
