Before using the OMEGA 200 read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
Safety information Range of applications: The Head-worn ophthalmoscope OMEGA 200 is designed solely for examination of the eye, particularly the retina. Safety in use: Use only those devices as power supplies which are designed for medical applications. Use as little light as possible and always switch off the power supply after use. Do not use the OMEGA 200 with a XENON projector.
Use of the optics overband Please note: The swivelling overband (9) is locked in the end position and can only be released by pressing the knob (6). Do not try to force the overband up or down. The overband can be adjusted with one hand as shown in the illustration. AA Press knob (6) with the right hand. BB Adjust the overband into the desired position (up for the ”rest“ position, down for the ”working“ position 1 or 2).

When the unit is properly adjusted, the overband can always be lowered into the same pre-selected working position.
Changing the bulb Please note: The performance of this unit can only be guaranteed if genuine HEINE bulbs are used. ● Withdraw the push-in connector (16). Unscrew the ribbed connector (12) and withdraw the bulb (13) from the housing. ● Clean the new bulb with a soft, clean cloth. ● Insert the new bulb so that the locating pin (14) engages in the slit (15) in the housing. ● Rest the connector (12) on the base of the bulb and screw in firmly. Replace the connector (16).
Use with Fiber Optics Illumination If used in conjunction with an external light source, the OMEGA 200 is connected by means of a highly flexible Fiber optics cable (17). No special adjustment of the instrument is necessary. Brightness selection is stepless (18).

Warranty We guarantee this OMEGA 200 (except bulbs) for five years from date of purchase. We guarantee the proper function of the unit provided it is used as intended by the manufacturer and according to the instructions for use. Any faults or defects which occur during the guarantee period will be repaired free of charge provided they are caused by faults in material, design or workmanship. In the case of a complaint of a defect in the product, the buyer must prove that any such defect was present at the time the product was delivered. This guarantee excludes any defects which occur because of wear and tear, incorrect use, the use of non-original HEINE parts, (especially bulbs, as these are designed with emphasis on the following criteria: Color temperature, life expectancy, safety, optical quality and performance). Also excluded are repairs or modifications made by persons not authorised by HEINE or cases where the customer does not follow the instructions supplied with the product. Further claims, in particular claims for damage not directly related to the HEINE product, are excluded. For repairs, please contact your supplier, who will return the goods to us or our authorized agent.
Controls for observation and illumination Apertures: 3 different aperture sizes can be selected by means of lever (1). The choice of aperture size is largely dependant on the size of the patient’s pupil. Filter: A red-free interference filter and a blue-filter can be introduced into the illumination beam by means of lever (4). Convergence and Parallax: By means of lever (3) both the illumination and the observation beams can be adjusted to suit the size of the patient’s pupil. The widest convergence with maximum parallax assures the least reflections and optimises stereoscopic vision with dilated pupils (position ● ). Narrow-angle convergence and minimum parallax allows stereoscopic examination through pupils down to 2 mm diameter (position •). The vertical angle of illumination or convergence can be adjusted by means of adjuster shaft (11). Teaching mirror: To use the teaching mirror, first open the shutter (2).
Care and maintenance
Setting up
The eye-pieces, the glass disc in front of the binocular assembly, and second observer accessory can be cleaned with a soft cloth, if necessary dipped in alcohol. The cushions for forehead, and nape can be removed for cleaning with soapy water. The rest of the instrument can be cleaned with a soft cloth dipped in alcohol. Under no circumstances should cleaning fluids be used.
● Attach the connecting-cord to your power or light source and switch on the illumination. ● Get to know the various controls and their functions. ● The basic setting up procedure: Aperture lever (1) – large aperture (white, circular) Filter lever (4) – white light Convergence control (3) – middle position control (11) – in the middle of the range of adjustment ● Adjust the eyepieces to your PD or to the middle of the scale.
Adjust the optics ● Unscrew the knob (5) so that the optics (10) are free to move. (The knob can be unscrewed and reversed to the other side for left-handers). ● Put on the instrument and adjust the circumference and height (7) and (8) so that the headband is firm but comfortable. ● Move the eyepieces as close as possible to your eyes and, without accommodating, look at the light spot at a distance of 30 – 40 cm. A small object like a pencil must be clearly-focused. The eyepieces are fitted with + 2 D lenses. (Spectacle wearers should look through the long distance section of bi-focals). Adjust the optics so that the light spot appears centred vertically in your view and screw the adjuster knob (5) in. (It may be necessary to readjust the headband or to select a different working position by pressing the control (6) and tilting the overband (9)). If the light spot is not centred, adjust the headband to left or right accordingly.

● Remove the instrument and check that the P.D. is symmetrically-adjusted. Correct adjustment of the optics is particularly important when examining through small pupils. Once set, the adjustments need only be changed if another examiner uses the instrument.

● Adjust the PD setting by viewing the light spot alternately with the left and right eye and sliding the eyepieces so that the spot is central.
