2.3.5 Installing Platelet Agitator(s) in Helmer Platelet Incubators To install Platelet Agitator(s) in a Platelet Incubator: 1. Plug the Platelet Agitator(s) power cord into the corresponding outlet on the back interior of the Platelet Incubator. For optimal temperature preformance, center the Platelet Agitator left to right in the Platelet Incubator. For PC100 Models, the front of the model PF15 Platelet Agitator should be placed 1 inch (4cm) inside the Platelet Incubator door. Platelet Agitators placed in a model PC900 or PC1200 Platelet Incubator should be positioned so that they do not interfere with the door closing. Platelet Agitators in a model PC2200 or PC3200 Platelet Incubator should be placed 1 inch (4cm) inside the front edge of the pullout drawer or door. 2. For i.Series Platelet Agitator(s) only: Connect the data cable(s) from the data port in the Platelet Agitator to the corresponding port on the back wall of the Platelet Incubator. For multiple Platelet Agitators, be sure to connect the Platelet Agitator on the top shelf to the uppermost data port and the second Platelet Agitator to the data port below that. Note: If setting up a Horizon Series Platelet Incubator, proceed to Step 4. If setting up an i.Series Platelet Incubator, continue with Step 3. 3. For i.Series Platelet Agitator(s) only: Turn the individual Platelet Agitator motion alarm switch(es) to the OFF position. The agitation and power failure alarms from the Platelet Agitator are communicated to the Platelet Incubator through the date cable. These alarms are then displayed on the i.Center monitor and may be connected to a central alarm system through the Platelet Incubator central alarm contacts. The AgiTrak system in the i.Center allows for each Platelet Agitator to be set up individually. Monitoring of agitation speed and motion delays are possible, as well as the counting of cycles for maintenance purposes. (Refer to Section 4.3.14.1, AgiTrak System Setup, for information on initial setup of the AgiTrak system.) Note: If you choose to leave the Platelet Agitator(s) motion alarm(s) ON in i.Series Platelet Incubators, be aware that the time it takes for the Platelet Agitator motion alarm to sound may be different than that reported by the Platelet Incubator i.Center. This is as a result of the individual Platelet Agitator motion alarm delay settings being independent of the i.Center settings. 4. Carefully place the Platelet Agitator(s) so that it is centered in the chamber and is clear of the Platelet Incubator door(s). 5. Toggle the Platelet Incubator and Platelet Agitator power switches to the ON position and close the door(s). Verify that the Platelet Agitator does not contact the sides of the Platelet Incubator while in motion. 6. Allow the chamber temperature to stabilize for 30 minutes at the preset controller value of 22°C.

3 General Operation 3.1 Calibrating the Temperature Controller Calibration of the Temperature Controller on the Platelet Incubator is required after receipt and installation of the device. Proper calibration of the Temperature Controller ensures a precise storage temperature.
3.1.1 Verify the Temperature Controller Reading After the Platelet Incubator is properly installed and the device has been powered ON, the temperature displayed by the Temperature Controller must be verified using an independent thermometer placed in the Platelet Incubator chamber. To verify the Temperature Controller reading: 1. Allow the chamber temperature to stabilize for approximately 30 minutes. 2. Place an independent, NIST traceable, thermometer in the chamber of the Platelet Incubator, as indicated in Table 3-1. Close the door and allow the independent thermometer to accurately register the chamber air temperature for 30 minutes. Table 3-1. Thermometer placement in Platelet Incubator chamber Model

3. Compare the independent thermometer reading to the displayed value on the Temperature Controller. Calibration is required if there is a difference between the Temperature Controller and the independent thermometer temperature readings. Note: A difference is defined as a temperature variance greater than allowed by your department or facility policy. However, for optimum chamber uniformity it is advisable to calibrate the controller so that it is as close as possible to the independent thermometer reading.
