Product Reference Guide LifeCare PCA™ Infusion System Priming the Vial and Administration Set Prior to priming, inspect the vial for damage, including leaks and cracks, and inspect the administration set for anomalies and/or irregularities. Assembling a Vial and Tubing: Remove the yellow caps from the vial and the needle cover of the injector. Inspect vial for leaks and cracks. Attach the injector to the vial, turning clockwise until secure. Remove yellow luer cover from the injector and slowly depress the flange on the injector to remove excess air from the vial. Connect the Pressure Activated Valve (PAV) female end of the set to the injector. Priming the Set: Close the green slide clamp on the KVO (Keep Vein Open) side of the LifeCare PCA administration set. Invert the vial and administration set, holding the vial vertically on a flat surface, with the administration set pointing up from the top of the syringe. Using two hands, slowly depress the flange on the injector. To prime the filter, invert filter and tap lightly to expel air. Continue pushing the injector until fluid exits the distal end of the set. Close the orange slide clamp on the PCA side of the administration set. Open the green slide clamp on the KVO side. Attach the primed administration set to the female adapter and prime the KVO side until fluid is observed at the distal end of the administration set. WARNING: Failure to completely flush narcotic from distal set could result in unintended bolus. Ensure orange slide clamp is closed prior to loading or manipulating vial. 1. Injector 2.
