Replace tonometer parts
10.1. Back panel The whole back panel needs to be replaced in case of broken back panel, faulty display or faulty buttons. Three different cover versions have been used during manufacturing of Icare Tonometer since 2003. The two earlier cover versions are not available anymore and these cover parts are not compatible with the latest cover version. Therefore all the covers need to be replaced if older version casing part is replaced. Old version back panels, tonometers before SN 06XXXXXX do not have the wrist strap attachment, see the picture below.
14
10.2. Side covers The latest (third) version covers were taken to production on April 2008. Icare devices starting from SN 08153001 -> have been produced with the latest cover version. The differences of the cover versions are shown in the photo sequence below.

10.3. Serial number label A stand alone printer – barcode reader device is used to create the serial number label for serviced device. The system contains Zebra TLP 2844 printer, custom size labels and barcode reader. ATTENTION! The printer has been programmed and adjusted for the specified barcode reader and customized label type. Do not connect the printer to any computer or reprogram it because it may erase the printer memory and program. Please contact manufacturer in case of malfunction of printer. Creating the serial number label: 1. Prepare the printer a. Connect printer power cable b. Connect barcode reader power cable c. Connect barcode serial cable to printer, two adapters needed d. Check the position of the stickers that the tape roll moves easily e. Check the position of the color tape of the printer based on the instruction of the printer 2. Turn the printer ON 3. Read the barcode of the device to be serviced => printer makes three copies from the old serial number label. 4. Check that the new serial label has the same serial number as in the old label 5. Use one of these labels for the replace cover, one sticker to the copy of the service report that needs to be sent to Icare Finland and one sticker to the copy of the service report that shall be stored by the service partner.
16
10.4. Forehead support Two different forehead versions have been used during manufacturing of Icare Tonometer since 2003. The earlier cover version is not available anymore. It is recommended to upgrade 1st version forehead support because the 2nd version forehead support allows larger adjustability of distance between the eye and the probe. The tonometer needs to be opened if forehead support is replaced. 2nd version forehead support can only be used with the cover versions 2nd and 3rd. The forehead guiding rail in the 1st cover version is too short and may cause faulty movement of the part. The difference between version 1 and version 2 forehead support is shown below.
Version 1 forehead support
Version 2 forehead support

10.6. Mother board Inspect the mother board for cracks and mechanical damages. Send the tonometer to manufacturer for repair if faults can be detected on the mother board. Service operations of the mother board are performed only by the manufacturer.
Replacing the mother board Replace the connection cable between the display and the mother board if needed. Avoid damaging the connect pins while operating with the display cable. The mother board has been mounted on the side cover B with two screws and plastic pin(s). The battery connectors are needed remove at the same time when the mother board is removed. Open the two screws on the mother board. Use a sharp tongs, cutting tongs or soldering iron to remove the plastic connector pin(s) in the middle of the mother board. Once the screws and pin(s) have been removed, the mother board can be removed at the same time with the battery connectors. Use a screw driver to dismount carefully both battery connectors. Be carefully with the connect wires between the battery connectors and the mother board.
18
Mount the battery connectors carefully to the new side cover by pressing them carefully with fingers. Hold the mother board carefully by fingers while mounting the battery connectors. Avoid using excessive force during mounting the connectors. Mount the mother board to the new side cover and tighten the connection screws carefully. Do not solder the plastic connection pins in the middle of the mother board. Below is the picture of the mother board installed to the new side cover.
19
10.7. Battery connectors The battery connectors of the mother board may be damaged if the device has been dropped. These connectors may also flatten due to mechanical shock. A clacking of batteries inside the tonometer is an indication of damaged or flattened battery contacts. The flattened connectors may cause poor contact with batteries. Adjust the connectors by pulling them out carefully to improve the contact problems with the batteries. Replace the both connectors even if only one connector is broken. Use tin-lead soldering process to replace the connectors. Replacing the connectors 1. 2. 3. 4.
