This instruction manual is intended to serve as an aid in the proper setup, installation, and operation of the Stroboscope PULSAR™. All essential details of the equipment and all actions required on your part are clearly presented and explained. We thus ask that you read this manual carefully before proceeding to work with the equipment. Insert this manual in its protective wallet and keep it available for ready reference in a convenient and conspicuous location near the equipment.

The lamp and its surroundings (light exit) can become very hot. Leave to cool before touching. Warning: Danger of glare! Never look directly into the light exit when the light source is switched on. Warning: Always unplug the unit before doing any maintenance work on it (e. g. cleaning). Warning: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not open the unit. Refer servicing to the manufacturer or to qualified personnel. Removal of covers by nonauthorized personnel will void the equipment’s warranty. Caution: Before connecting the unit to the electrical supply lines, verify that the line voltage stated on the unit's identification plate agrees with that of the electrical supply lines to be used. Caution: When replacing fuses, use only fuses of the correct rating. Hinweis: Auf dem Beschriftungsstreifen sind die jeweiligen Bedienelemente bzw. Anzeigen des Gerätes bezeichnet. Der Beschriftungsstreifen liegt dem Gerät in sechs Sprachen bei: Deutsch, Spanisch, Englisch, Französisch, Italienisch und Portugiesisch. Zutreffende Sprache auswählen.

Undo the left-hand front side cover with a screwdriver.

Gegebenenfalls vorhandenen unbeschrifteten Platzhalter entfernen. Beschriftungsstreifen zwischen Dekorfolie und Frontblech schieben. Den Streifen bei der Strichmarkierung um 90° knicken und ca. 2 mm weiter (zum Streifenende hin) wieder 90° zurückknicken, damit die Seitenblende wieder ungehindert angebracht werden kann.

Remove any unmarked label strips. Select a label strip and slide it between the plastic and the metal front. Fold the strip along the broken line to an angle of 90° and approx. 2 mm further on (toward the end of the strip) fold it back to an angle of 90° so that the side cover can be refitted without any obstructions.

Retirar, si procediera, las tarjetas de identificación sin rotular existentes. Seleccionar la tarjeta de identificación y deslizarla entre la lámina decorativa y la chapa frontal. Doble la tarjeta de identificación en un ángulo de 90° por la marca y dóblela de nuevo hacia atrás, dejando un espacio de 2 mm (en dirección al extremo de la tarjeta de identificación), de modo que sea posible colocar la cubierta lateral sin impedimentos.

Set the unit on a flat surface. Ensure that the unit has adequate ventilation. The inlet and outlet for cooling air are located on the unit's rear panel.

The unit is equipped with a connector (C19) for attaching a ground line. The unit’s ground line should be installed by a qualified electrician.

The label strips are included with the unit in six languages: German, Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. Select the appropriate language.

Mikrophonkapsel und Mikrophonkabel miteinander verbinden.

Connect the microphone capsule and microphone cable to each other.

Secure the microphone holder to the instrument (laryngoscope) with the aid of the appropriate attaching ring.

Lichtleitkabel des Laryngoskopes am Lichtausgang C1 einstecken.

Insert the fiberoptic light cable of the laryngoscope into light outlet C1.

Die autom. Abschaltung der Blitz-Lichtquelle verhindert unnötigen Verschleiß der Blitzlampe. Für die optionale Zusatz-Lichtquelle ist keine automatische Abschaltung vorgesehen. Der Standby-Modus wird verlassen durch das Aktivieren der gewünschten Lichtquelle. Blitz-Lichtquelle wieder aktivieren Den Fußschalter kurz betätigen oder die Taste B6 an der Frontplatte drücken.

The automatic switch-off of the flashing light source prevents unnecessary wear to the flash lamp. The optional additional light source is not equipped with automatic switch-off. The unit leaves standby mode when the desired light source is activated. Reactivating flashing light source Press the footswitch for a short time or press button B6 on the front panel.

La desconexión automática de la fuente de luz de flash evita un desgaste innecesario de la lámpara de flash. Para la fuente de luz adicional opcional no se ha previsto ninguna desconexión automática. Die Lichtquellen können mit den jeweils zugeordneten Tasten (B6/B7) aktiviert werden: • Blitzlichtquelle -> Taste (B6) • Zusatz-Lichtquelle -> Taste (B7) (optional) oder optional über den Halter mit Schaltfunk2 0 1400 41) zur Aufnahme einer Stirntion (2 lampe über den Anschluss C10 (Anschluss für externen Schalter) Durch wiederholtes Drücken der Taste kann die jeweilige Lichtquelle auch wieder ausgeschaltet werden. Es kann immer nur eine Lichtquelle aktiviert werden. Wird z. B. die Blitz-Lichtquelle aktiviert, schaltet die Zusatz-Lichtquelle ab und umgekehrt. Bei Aktivierung einer Lichtquelle werden automatisch die jeweilig letzten Einstellungen wieder aufgerufen. Wenn keine ZusatzLichtquelle installiert ist, hat die zugeordnete Taste (B7) keine Funktion.

Only one light source can be activated at a time. If, for example, the flashing light source is activated, the additional light source switches off and vice versa. When a light source is activated, its last settings are automatically called up again. If no additional light source has been installed, the associated button (B7) is redundant.

Una sola fuente de luz puede activarse siempre. Si, p. ej., se activa la fuente de luz de flash, la fuente de luz adicional se desconecta y viceversa. Al activar una fuente de luz se adoptan automáticamente los últimos ajustes realizados respectivamente. Si no se ha instalado ninguna fuente de luz adicional, la tecla asignada (B7) no tiene función alguna.

Nach dem Aktivieren der Blitz-Lichtquelle wird geprüft, ob das Fußpedal und das Mikrophon angeschlossen sind und ob diese ordnungsgemäß funktionieren. Im Fehlerfall wird eine entsprechende Fehlermeldung angezeigt. (Die optionale Zusatz-Lichtquelle ist allerdings auch ohne diese Komponenten betriebsbereit.) Die Triggerung der Blitz-Lichtquelle erfolgt nach einer der drei folgenden Prinzipien: • Festfrequenz (100/120) Hz für Dauerlicht (Dauerlicht-Modus) • synchron zum Audiosignal (vom Mikrofon) (Audio-Modus) • synchron zum Pilot-Ton (interne Triggerung) (Tone-Modus)

After activation of the flashing light source, the unit checks whether the footpedal and microphone have been connected and are functioning correctly. In the event of a malfunction, a corresponding error message is displayed. (However, the optional additional light source is operational even without footpedal or microphone). The flashing light source is triggered according to one of the following three principles: • fixed frequency (100/120) Hz for continuous light (continuous light mode) • synchronized with the audio signal (from microphone) (audio mode) • synchronized with the pilot tone (internal triggering) (tone mode)

Después de activar la fuente de luz de flash se comprueba si el interruptor de pedal y el micrófono están conectados y funcionan correctamente. En caso de fallo aparece un mensaje de fallo en consecuencia. (Sin embargo, la fuente de luz adicional opcional está dispuesta para el servicio también sin este componente.) El disparo de la fuente de luz de flash ocurre según uno de los tres principios siguientes: • frecuencia fija (100/120) Hz para luz continua (modo de luz continua) • sincrónicamente con la señal de audio (del micrófono) (modo Audio) • sincrónicamente con el tono piloto (disparo interno) (modo de tono)

Darstellung Dimmer-Wert Der Dimmer-Wert unterscheidet sich vom Normal-Wert durch ein vorangestelltes – (Minus) Zeichen in der Anzeige.

Displaying the dimmer value The dimmer value is differentiated from the normal value by a preset - (minus) sign in the display.

Umschalten zwischen Normal-Einstellung und Dimmer-Einstellung Kurzes Betätigen (und Wiederloslassen) des Fußpedals schaltet zwischen den Einstellungen um. Es ist dabei unerheblich, wie weit das Pedal niedergetreten wird, allein entscheidend ist, dass es innerhalb einer halben Sekunde wieder in seine obere Ruheposition zurückkehrt. Hinweis: Kommt es durch zu geringen Objektabstand (Zunge) zu Überstreuungen im Videobild, kann mit Hilfe des Fußpedals in die Dimmer-Einstellung gewechselt werden, was bei korrekter Einstellung die Überstrahlung beseitigt. Wird in der Arbeitslage des Instrumentes wieder mehr Licht benötigt, kann in die NormalEinstellung zurückgekehrt werden.

Switching between normal setting and dimmer setting Briefly pressing the footpedal (and letting go again) switches between the settings. When doing this, it does not matter how far the footpedal is pressed down - it is only crucial that it is returned to its upper home position within a half second. Note: If blooming occurs in the video image as a result of being too close to an object (e.g. the tongue), the dimmer setting can be selected with the footpedal, which rectifies the blooming with the correct adjustment. If more light is required in the working position of the instrument, the normal setting can be selected again.

Al hacerlo, carece de importancia hasta qué punto se aprieta el pedal; únicamente es de importancia decisiva que vuelva a su posición superior de descanso dentro de un período de medio segundo. Nota: Si debido a una distancia reducida al objeto (lengua) se produjera una dispersión en la imagen de vídeo, con ayuda del interruptor de pedal se puede conmutar al ajuste Dimmer, que elimina la sobreirradiación si el ajuste es correcto. Si en la posición de trabajo del instrumento vuelve a requerirse más luz, se puede retornar al ajuste Normal.

Pressing the Automatic button B5 switches the unit over to automatic brightness control, provided the following conditions are fulfilled: • video module installed (optional) • video camera connected to endoscope • video signal (from camera) is present at the video input C12 or C13

Der Pegel des Videosignals wird dann für die Regelung der Helligkeit auf einem konstanten Niveau gehalten, was bedeutet, dass Helligkeitsschwankungen und Überstrahlung des Videobildes infolge unterschiedlicher Objektabstände vermieden werden. Die Grundhelligkeit (o. g. Niveau) des Videobildes kann durch Betätigen der +/–Tasten (B2/B3) verändert werden in einem Bereich von -10 bis (+)10. Der aktuelle Wert wird im Display (A2) angezeigt, solange die autom. Helligkeitsregelung aktiv ist.

Warning: Observe the safety instructions on page 7. The level of the video signal is then kept constant for controlling the brightness. This avoids brightness fluctuations or blooming of the video image as the result of varying object distances. The basic brightness (see above level) of the video image can be changed within a range from -10 to (+)10 by pressing the +/- buttons (B2/B3). The current value is shown on the display (A2) as long as automatic brightness control is active.

If the footpedal is pressed down and a valid audio signal* is present (adequate volume and periodicity), the unit switches to audio mode. Im oberen Bereich des Pedalweges, ist der Standbild-Modus aktiv, d. h. es erscheint ein stehendes Bild der schwingenden Stimmbänder. Das Standbild-Symbol (A8) leuchtet auf. Die jeweilige Phase, d. h. die Position der (scheinbar) stehenden Stimmbänder lässt sich mit dem Fußpedal einstellen im Bereich von 0 bis 400 Grad (= ein ganzer Schwingungszyklus + 10 %). Die Auswahl der gewünschten Messgröße, die angezeigt werden soll, kann bei der bezeichneten Pedalstellung (Standbild-Bereich) erfolgen, indem gleichzeitig die + Taste (B2) oder die – Taste (B3) wiederholt solange betätigt wird, bis das betreffende Symbol (A3/A4/ A9) aufleuchtet. Das Display (A2) ist während dessen inaktiv. Nach dem Loslassen der +/– Tasten B2/B3) erscheint wieder die vorher aktuelle Anzeige. Hinweis: Die Einstellung ist auch dann möglich, wenn kein gültiges Audio-Signal anliegt und das Gerät daher im Dauerlicht-Modus arbeitet. Hinweis: Die Anzeige der Lautstärke (in dB) ist nur dann korrekt, wenn das Mikrophon zusammen mit dem Laryngoskop Art.-Nr. 8707 DA/ 8706 CJA verwendet und das Mikrophon daran wie gezeigt (Seite 14) befestigt ist. In the upper section of the pedal movement range, freeze frame mode is active, i.e. a stationary image of the vibrating vocal cords appears. The freeze frame symbol (A8) lights up. The respective phase, i.e. the position of the (apparently) stationary vocal cords, can be adjusted using the footpedal within a range from 0 to 400 degrees (= a complete vibration cycle + 10%). The operator can select a parameter for display with the pedal in the designated position (freeze frame range) by simultaneously pressing the + button (B2) or the - button (B3) repeatedly until the corresponding symbol (A3/ A4/A9) lights up. The display (A2) is active during this procedure. After the +/– button (B2/B3) is released, the previous current display reappears. Note: The setting is still possible even if no valid audio signal is present and the unit is therefore operating in continuous light mode. Note: Display of the volume (in dB) is only correct if the microphone is used together with laryngoscope Art. no. 8707 DA/8706 CJA and the microphone is secured to it as shown (page 14). The volume display is continuously updated.

Hierzu ist das Pedal in der unteren Position zu halten (Zeitlupen-Bereich) und gleichzeitig durch wiederholtes Betätigen der + Taste (B2) oder der – Taste (B3) die Geschwindigkeit (Frequenz) der Zeitlupe zu wählen.

If the pedal is pressed further down beyond the pressure point (as far as the bottom limit stop), slow motion mode is activated. The vocal cords then appear to move more slowly. The slow motion symbol (A7) lights up (A7 and A8 are only active alternately). The speed of the (apparent) vocal cord movement can be (pre-)adjusted in 5 stages in the range from 0.5 Hz to 2.5 Hz. To do this, hold the pedal in the bottom position (slow motion range) and at the same time press the + button (B2) or the – button (B3) repeatedly to select the speed (frequency) of the slow motion.

Im Auslieferungszustand sind die Remote-Funktionen abgeschaltet. Daher können auch nicht versehentlich Infrarot-Signale ausgesendet werden, die ggf. andere Geräte stören. Aktiviert werden die Remote-Funktionen durch die Eingabe eines Brand-Codes, der sich auf das jeweils zu steuernde Gerät (VCR) bezieht. In den beiliegenden Listen (getrennt nach Kontinent) sind die Namen aller gängigen Marken von Video-Recordern abgedruckt sowie die jeweils zugeordneten Brand-Codes. Sind mehrere Codes unter dem jeweiligen Namen eingetragen, sollten diese der Reihe nach durchprobiert werden.

In the delivered state, the remote functions are switched off. Therefore, it is not possible for infrared signals to be transmitted accidentally and possibly interfere with other equipment. The remote functions are activated by entering a brand code which relates to the particular unit (VCR) being controlled. The enclosed lists (divided up by continent) contain the names of all the commonly used brands of video recorders and their respective brand codes. If more than one code is given for a particular name, these should be tried out one after the other.

The setting is carried out with the aid of superimposed texts. If the keyboard and video monitor are connected to the stroboscope, the code line can be called up (Alt k) and edited. Unabhängig von den in den verschiedenen Ländern vorgeschriebenen Unfallverhütungsvorschriften oder Prüfungsintervallen für Medizingeräte empfehlen wir eine Funktions- oder Sicherheitsüberprüfung des Gerätes mindestens einmal im Jahr. Preventive maintenance is not essential. Regular maintenance can, however, contribute to identifying potential problems before they become serious, thus enhancing the instrument’s reliability and extending its useful operating life. Maintenance services can be obtained from your local representative or from the manufacturer. Regardless of the accident prevention regulations or testing intervals for medical instruments prescribed in different countries, we recommend a functional or safety test of the unit at least once a year. For detailed instructions please refer to the version of the Service Manual currently valid, catalog number SV 3453 (English version).

Fehlerbeschreibung: Gerät ganz ausgefallen. Mögliche Ursachen: – Netzversorgung ausgefallen. – Netzsicherung defekt. Abhilfe: – Versorgungsnetz prüfen lassen. – Sicherungen wechseln wie in Gebrauchsanweisung beschrieben, auf Sicherungs-Typ achten.

Symptom: Complete failure of the unit. Possible causes: – No power from the power line. – Defective power fuse. Remedy: – Check that there is electricity to the wall outlet. – Change fuses as described in the instruction manual. Be sure to fit the correct type of fuse.
