DO NOT PLUG THE CAMERA HEAD CABLE INTO THE PROCESSOR RECEPTACLE IF IT IS MOIST OR NOT CLEAN. Always ensure that the connector is completely clean. Remove any moisture present with a sterile cloth before connecting.

DO NOT PICK UP THE CAMERA HEAD BY ITS CABLE. Always pick up the camera head first, and then pick up and support the cable and connector. The cable contains many tiny conductors and must therefore be handled with care.

ENSURE THAT THE CABLE IS NOT COILED TOO TIGHTLY OR FOLDED UP WHILE THE CAMERA IS IN STORAGE. Always arrange the cable in loose coils with a diameter of 6 inches (15 cm) or more.

• Wipe the camera head connector with a cotton tip applicator soaked in 70 % isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual disinfectant. Do not allow exposed glass windows to air dry. Glass surfaces can be cleaned using a cotton tip applicator soaked in 70 % isopropyl alcohol to prevent streaks and spots. • Afterwards, a functional check must be carried out.

The procedures as well as the process-relevant parameters for the individually validated methods are described in detail in the manual ‘Cleaning, Disinfection, Care and Sterilization of KARL STORZ Instruments’. The procedure must be selected taking the respective applicable national requirements into account and in consultation with the device manufacturers. The following sterilization methods have been validated and approved by KARL STORZ for the IMAGE1 S™ 4U camera head:

Critical water: Water that is extensively treated (usually by a multistep treatment process that could include a carbon bed, softening, DI and RO, or distillation) to ensure that the microorganisms and the inorganic and organic material are removed from the water; a final submicron filtration could also be part of the treatment process. Critical water is recommended for rinsing after high-level disinfection.

Manual precleaning

Immediately after a procedure, at the point of use (e. g. operating room), wipe the camera head with a soft, lint-free disposable cloth moistened with water or diluted mild/neutral pH enzymatic cleaning solution to remove all heavy soiling. NOTE: If immediate cleaning is not feasible, place the camera head in a container and soak for no longer than 30 minutes in a diluted neutral/mild pH enzymatic cleaning solution (e.g. Enzol). CAUTION: Wear protective gloves, clothing, and a face mask for cleaning of contaminated instruments.
