The lithotripsy control unit is used to create energy for the destruction of stones during endoscopic urological applications. Use of the unit in elds other than those indicated is not allowed for safety reasons.

The CALCUSON Ultrasonic Generator can be used with Ultrasonic Lithotripsie Probes 27425 NK and 27425 NL (see section “Accessories”). The CALCUSON may only be used with accessories which have been designated by KARLSTORZ as suitable for the unit.

Das Gerät darf nur in medizinisch genutzten Räumen benutzt werden, deren elektrische Anlagen nach den national gültigen Vorschriften installiert sind. Es ist nicht für den Betrieb in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen bestimmt. Dies bedeutet u. a.: Bei Verwendung von leicht brennbaren und explosionsfähigen Inhalations-Anästhesiemitteln und deren Gemischen darf das Gerät nicht in der dargestellten Gefahrenzone betrieben werden. Dieses gilt auch für leicht brennbare und explosionsfähige Chemikalien, z.B. Hautdesinfektions- und Flächenschnelldesinfektionsmittel.

The unit may only be used in medical rooms whose electrical systems have been installed in accordance with applicable national regulations. It is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This means, for example, that when using easily combustible and explosive inhalation anesthetics, or mixtures thereof, the unit must not be operated inside the hazard zone shown in the diagram. This also applies for easily combustible and explosive chemicals, e.g. skin disinfectants and fast-acting surface disinfectants.

Vor der Anwendung des Gerätes hat sich der Anwender von der Funktionssicherheit und dem ordnungsgemäßen Zustand des Gerätes zu überzeugen. Während der Behandlung mit dem CALCUSON muss der Patient mit der üblichen medizinischen Sorgfalt behandelt und beobachtet werden. Dies schließt die Verlaufskontrolle des Behandlungsvorgangs, die Überwachung der Vitalwerte und der Narkose ein. Jeder Behandlungsvorgang darf nur durchgeführt werden, wenn die visuelle Beobachtung der Gerätewirkung sichergestellt ist.

It is the user’s responsibility to make sure the instrument is safe and operates properly before using the instrument. During treatment with the CALCUSON the patient must be treated and kept under observation with the usual medical care. This includes keeping a check on the progress of treatment, as well as monitoring the vital levels and the anesthetic. Any treatment may only be performed if visual obervation of the action of the instrument is ensured.

Der Ultraschall-Lithotriptor CALCUSON darf nur in Verbindung mit einer Saugpumpe betrieben werden. Wird ein Fremdfabrikat verwendet, so ist zur Temperaturstabilisierung des Wandlers und der Sonden sicherzustellen, dass das Wandlersystem oder – bei Verwendung von Massivsonden – der umgebende Schaft mit mindestens 300ml/min. durchossen wird (vgl. auch Seite 14 ,Haftungshinweis‘). Aus Sicherheitsgründen ist der Ultraschall-Wandler mit verschiedenen Sicherheitsschaltungen ausgerüstet, die die Ultraschall-Erzeugung bei Vorliegen sicherheitsrelevanter Defekte blockieren. Bei einem Abschalten des Gerätes wird die Ursache durch das Aueuchten verschiedener KontrollLeuchten signalisiert.

The ultrasonic lithotripter CALCUSON may only be used in conjunction with a suction pump. If a different make is used, care must be taken to stabilize the temperature of the probes by ensuring that at least 300 ml/min ow through the transducer system or, if solid probes are used, through the surrounding probe tube (see also the “Note” at the bottom of page 14). For safety reasons the transducer is equipped with various safety switches which block the generation of ultrasound in the case of a hazardous defect. If the unit switches off, the cause is indicated by the illumination of the respective Pilot lamp.

Si se utiliza un producto de otra marca, para la estabilización de la temperatura del transductor y de las sondas hay que asegurarse de que por el sistema transductor o, si se usan sondas macizas, por la vaina circundante, uyan al menos 300 ml/ min (véase también en la página 14 “Nota sobre responsabilidad”). During lithotripsy, care must be taken to ensure that there is always a balance between the in- and outow of the irrigation liquid. Excessive inow to the operative eld can result in a TUR syndrome. Ultrasonic lithotripsy should only be performed by persons having basic knowledge of the transurethral surgical technique. The ultrasonic energy does not cause damage to the bladder wall. However, to prevent edema and petechial hemorrhage, direct contact between the probe and the mucosa of the bladder should be avoided.

Un caudal excesivo de entrada puede traer aparejados Ios riesgos ya conocidos por la RTU para el paciente. La energía ultrasónica no produce en sí lesiones en la pared de la vejiga, sin embargo, para prevenir el riesgo de edemas y hemorragias petequiales hay que evitar el contacto directo con la mucosa vesical.

Während der Lithotripsie ist unbedingt auf eine ausgeglichene Spülüssigkeitsbilanz zwischen Zu- und Ablauf zu achten. Überhöhter Zulauf führt zu den von der TUR bekannten Gefährdungen des Patienten. Die Ultraschall-Lithotripsie sollte nur nach Beherrschung der Grundkenntnisse der transurethralen Operationstechnik vorgenommen werden. Die Ultraschall-Energie führt nicht zu einer Zerstörung der Blasenwand, es sollte jedoch zur Vermeidung eines Ödems und petechialer Blutungen dennoch der direkte Kontakt mit der Blasenschleimhaut vermieden werden. 8

Note: The CALCUSON 27 6100 20 was designed specially for operation with the suction pump ENDOMAT® LC, which is why the instruction manual describes the two instruments as one functional unit. The ultrasonic generator can, however, be operated with other pumps (check the suction power, see page 8). If you use a pump from another manufacturer in combination with the ultrasonic generator, KARLSTORZ will not be responsible for any problems or hazards that may occur.

The ENDOMAT® LC should be used together with the tubing set 20 3303 42 which is designed for combined operation. Connect the devices using the optionally available connecting cable 27 6100 70. The ENDOMAT® LC can now be controlled using the CALCUSON footswitch.

Fill the suction bottle, which is optionally available for suction, at least ¾ full with water. This increases the tube venting speed. Place the cover with tube nozzles on the suction bottle.

Carefully attach the pump tube to the tube connectors and lock into place with the exible connector sleeves. Place the tubing set in the pump head and lock into place with the lever.

Connect the short, bottom end of the tube which runs through the reel pump to the smooth tube nozzle of the lid (this nozzle is tted with a strainer). Put the long, top end of the tube into a collecting bottle or directly into the water outlet.

Schlauchset entlüften Die Entlüftung des Schlauchsets kann z. B. über das Ansaugen von steriler NaCl-Lösung aus einer Petrischale erfolgen. Der Vorgang ist solange fortzusetzen, bis Flüssigkeit über das Absauggefäß in den »entsorgenden« Schlauch gepumpt wird. Dazu den ENDOMAT® LC am Netzschalter einschalten und mit der START/STOP-Taste (siehe Pfeil) die Pumpe starten und nach erfolgter Schlauchentlüftung stoppen. Im Anschluss an die Entlüftung des Schlauches ist die Aktivierung der Pumpe und des CALCUSON über den am CALCUSON angeschlossenen Fußschalter kurz (1-2 s) zu überprüfen.

Removing air from the tube system Removing air from the tube system can be done, for example, by suctioning sterile NaCl solution out of a Petri dish. The procedure should be carried out until liquid is pumped into the “drainage” tube, via the suction vessel.

A continuación del desaireamiento del tubo exible hay que comprobar brevemente (1 - 2 s) la activación de la bomba y del CALCUSON a través del interruptor de pedal conectado al CALCUSON.

Actuation of the rst position of the two-position footswitch 20 0102 30 starts suction (ENDOMAT® LC), the second position activates the CALCUSON. If it operates properly the green pilot lamp  lights up when ultrasonic energy is emitted.

El accionamiento del 1er nivel del interruptor de pedal de 2 niveles 20 0102 30 pone en marcha la succión (ENDOMAT® LC), el 2º nivel activa el CALCUSON. En caso de funcionamiento correcto, al emitir energía ultrasónica se enciende la lámpara verde de control .

To do this, switch on the ENDOMAT® LC using the power switch. Press the START/STOP button (see arrow) to start the pump, and stop it once the tube has been vented. After air has been removed from the tubes, the activation of the pump and of the CALCUSON must be checked briey (1-2 s) by means of the footswitch attached to the CALCUSON.

Mantenimiento

Eine vorbeugende Wartung ist nicht zwingend erforderlich. Regelmäßige Wartungen können aber dazu beitragen, eventuelle Störungen frühzeitig zu erkennen und so die Sicherheit und Lebensdauer des Gerätes erhöhen. Wartungsdienste können bei Ihrer zuständigen Gebietsvertretung oder beim Hersteller erfragt werden. Unabhängig von den in den verschiedenen Ländern vorgeschriebenen Unfallverhütungsvorschriften oder Prüfungsintervallen für Medizingeräte schreiben wir eine Sicherheitstechnische Kontrolle mindestens einmal jährlich vor.

Preventive maintenance is not essential. Regular maintenance can, however, contribute to identifying potential problems before they become serious, thus enhancing the instrument’s reliability and extending its useful operating life. Maintenance services can be obtained from your local representative or from the manufacturer. Regardless of the accident prevention regulations or testing intervals for medical devices prescribed in different countries, a safety check must be carried out on the unit at least once a year.

EI equipo no precisa forzosamente de mantenimiento preventivo. Sin embargo, un mantenimiento periódico puede contribuir a reconocer a tiempo posibles averías y así aumentar la seguridad y la duración del aparato. EI servicio de mantenimiento es ofrecido por su concesionario local o por el fabricante. Um Unfälle zu vermeiden, die durch Alterung, Verschleiß oder Funktionsausfälle medizinisch-technischer Geräte entstehen können, legt KARLSTORZ fest, einmal jährlich sicherheitstechnische Kontrollen durchzuführen. Werden bei den sicherheitstechnischen Kontrollen Mängel festgestellt, durch die Patienten, Personal oder Dritte gefährdet werden können, so darf das Gerät so lange nicht betrieben werden, bis diese Mängel durch fachgerechten technischen Service behoben sind.

KARL STORZ stipulates that safety checks must be carried out once a year, in order to prevent accidents due to aging, wear or failure of medical devices. If any defects or shortcomings which could endanger patients, operating personnel or others are ascertained during these safety checks, the unit must not be operated until such time as these defects or shortcomings have been eliminated by qualied technical servicing.

Con el n de evitar accidentes que pudieran originarse por antigüedad, desgaste o fallos de funcionamiento de los aparatos técnico-médicos, KARLSTORZ establece la realización de controles técnicos de seguridad anuales.
