About KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure
The KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure is a fully automatic alternating pressure overlay mattress designed to provide pressure relief.
The system is designed for use on a hospital type bed or in a domestic or care/residential home environment employing standard single divan beds.
Installation is simple and requires no special training. The KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure is particularly suited to the community and home-nursing environment. The patients posture can be raised or adjusted as required without affecting operation or effectiveness of the alternating pressure relief system.
The back-rest of hospital type beds may be used either above or below the mattress without damage to the support system or cover. The KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure is suitable for patients at risk of pressure sore damage and assessed as medium to high risk category.
The KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure is easy to maintain and clean.
The KCI™ AirWorks™ Sure utilises the reflex™ auto-control system to constantly monitor and adjust mattress pressure according to patient weight and position. Recmmended Maximum Patient Weight = 153kg

Operation
CPR
5.1 Pressure adjustment The internal mattress pressure is constantly monitored and adjusted by the Reflex™ auto-control system and requires no user adjustment. 5.2 CPR To deflate the mattress in case of cardiac arrest pull the CPR lever thereby disconnecting the multi-tube connector from the pump unit. 5.3 Bed Travel The AirWorks™ Sure may be kept inflated during bed travel (e.g. to theatre or X-Ray) as follows:-
1.
1.
2.
2.
Press the travel key located on the control panel - the (amber) wait indicator will illuminate.
When the (green) travel indicator flashes and an audible signal is heard the pump must be disconnected immediately from the mains supply to allow the bed to be moved. The mattress will remain inflated for a minimum of three hours. Do not disconnect the multi-tube connector. N.B. CPR as above even during travel mode. 3. Switch the pump unit off and on again to reset system. 4. When the mains supply is reconnected the system will revert to normal operation. CAUTION - Do not use the bed for long periods with the green travel indicator illuminated.

Controls indicators and alarms
Low Pressure Under low pressure fault conditions the (red) low pressure indicator will illuminate and the audible alarm will sound a single intermittent bleep. If alarm sounds, check that connections are correctly made and that the equipment is correctly installed as per installation instructions. To reset the low pressure alarm, switch the pump unit OFF for five seconds. If alarm sounds again, consult KCI™. NOTE: On initial start up the audible alarm is automatically muted.
High Pressure Under high pressure fault conditions the (amber) high pressure indicator will illuminate and the audible alarm will sound an intermittent double bleep. If alarm sounds, check that the equipment is correctly installed as per installation instructions. To reset the alarm, switch the pump unit OFF for five seconds. If alarm sounds again, consult KCI™. NOTE: Check tubes are not kinked.

Cleaning
Always disconnect from mains before cleaning. Protective clothing should be worn when carrying out cleaning procedures. Please note - Phenolic based and hypercarbonate cleaning products should never be used on the mattress cover.
6.1 Mattress cover - Wipe down with water and a mild detergent. The cover may be cleaned using sodium hypochlorite diluted in water. For further information consult KCI™. 6.2 Pump Unit - Wipe with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. (Sodium hypochlorite may be used as directed above if required). Do not immerse or soak pump unit.
6.3 Inflatables - If necessary the inflatables can be removed from the mattress cover by unclipping the studs and disconnecting the supply tubes. The inflatables and supply tubes can then be cleaned using either a mild detergent or sodium hypochlorite diluted in water. For further reference consult KCI™. When refitting the inflatables make sure that the air supply connectors are at the foot end, and on the underside of the inflatable cells.

Maintenance
8.1 General - Check mattress cover for signs of wear or damage. Ensure mattress cover and inflatable sections are studded together correctly. Examine Plexus™ system and connections to supply tubes. Check supply tube connections to pump and check pump unit for damage. Examine mains supply lead for signs of wear or fraying and replace if necessary. Check multi-tube connector and ‘O’ rings, lightly lubricate with silicone grease if required. Report any problems or malfunctions to KCI™.
CAUTION
Any attention that requires removal of the pump unit screws, must be carried out by a qualified technician authorised by KCI™. There are no user - serviceable parts inside the pump unit cover.
