3 Infrared Hand Controller The Infrared Hand Controller can be used to remotely perform specific functions of the UDS software. The Hand Controller in conjunction with the Infrared Receiver/Decoder allows the operator to execute procedures a short distance away from the computer. This enables the operator to simultaneously tend to the patient and control the procedure without interruption. The Infrared Hand Controller functions similarly to a remote control for a TV or VCR. A signal is transmitted when the Hand Controller is pointed directly at the Infrared Receiver/Decoder and a button is depressed. The Receiver/Decoder receives this signal and relays it to the computer which initiates the requested procedure. NOTE: The Infrared Hand Controller will not function if the Receiver/Decoder is hidden behind or obstructed by any objects. A clear line of sight path between the Hand Controller and the Receiver/Decoder must be established for this feature to function properly. Before using the Infrared Hand Controller, the following conditions must be in place: • • •
The UDS software Version 7Z or higher is installed and configured to use Comm 2 of the PC The Infrared Receiver/Decoder is plugged into Comm 1 of the PC Two (2) AAA batteries are installed in the Infrared Hand Controller
