WARNINGS
WARNINGS All user equipment must comply with the IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 standard for medical equipment.
Any change may only be carried out with the help of MAQUET or an authorized representative. Care should be taken with handling gas hoses, suction hoses, and other items that could potentially be contaminated with bio-materials or bacteria. Processing used product and all waste should be done in accordance with established regulations. Changes or modifications not expressively approved by MAQUET Suzhou could void the user’s authority to operate the Equipment. Do not overload the electrical connections (3700W for 230V, 2400W for 120V, or 2000W for 100V per electrical line).
Do not use in an MRI environment. If shelves, pump rods, rails or monitor holders are added on, the total load allowed is reduced by the weight of the added accessory. If the user equipment is not fixed securely, it can fall off during positioning and lead to severe injury. Always secure user equipment and verify that it is secure before use.
In the event of a power cut, only equipment connected to a backup power supply will remain on.
It is essential not to exceed the maximum mechanical load capacity of each arm. The maximum loads, as well as the relevant operating procedure are given in paragraph 2.3 “Determining the useful load of a ceiling supply unit”. Not suitable for use in the presence of explosive anesthetics. Product modifications, alterations, or structural changes should only be performed by MAQUET or an authorized representative to ensure properly loading specifications are considered. Modifications, such as extending shelves or IV poles, typically reduce the maximum load of the system and should be reviewed based upon the individual situation. The customer must take in account local environmental standards and regulations regarding the product’s recycling and destruction. The installation and use of products must comply with EN ISO 7396-1, EN ISO 7396-2 and all applicable local codes. For USA only, the installation and use of products must comply with NFPA 70, NFPA 99 and all applicable local codes. The maximum load allowed is marked on the support heads of every ceiling supply unit. Exceeding the stated value causes the arm to tilt by more than 1°, impairs the safety of the unit and can be hazardous to the operator. Touch up any damaged paint immediately. Instructions for safe use
Dear User Please note that certain operations may only be carried out by staff with the appropriate qualifications: •
The ceiling supply unit may only be operated by trained medical staff.
•
The unit uses state of the art technology and is completely safe. Danger can arise if the unit is operated by unqualified staff, incorrectly, or in a manner that deviates from the intended use.
•
Cleaning of the device must be carried out by qualified sanitary specialists.
•
Please read these operating instructions carefully before using the unit in order to ensure safe and effective operation.
•
Please follow these instructions to train staff in the operation, care and safe use of the unit.
•
The unit is only intended for use as stated in the operating instructions and is only suitable for such use. Any other use can be dangerous to life and limb and/or cause damage to the product or to other property of the operator.
•
For safety reasons, no alterations or adaptations are authorized without the agreement of MAQUET.
•
For your safety, contact your supplier if any problems arise that are not fully addressed by these instructions.

Intended use: •
Your ceiling supply unit can be fitted according to your needs. Depending on the version and equipment, the unit is meant for: - carrying and positioning medical devices, monitors etc. - supplying them with voltage, compressed air and medical gases - the evacuation of anaesthetic gases or compressed air

The ceiling supply unit is designed for continuous operation.
•
The maximum load of the ceiling supply unit must not be exceeded.

NOTE (for USA only): This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the installation and user manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communication. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. Additional installations •
Support heads may be equipped according to the customer's wishes with empty conduits and blank junction boxes to allow for future installation of telecommunication and data equipment.
Maintenance •
The MAQUET warranty, as well as the safety and correct operation of the device, is only guaranteed if: - All inspection, maintenance and repair work is performed by MAQUET engineers or trained and authorized support technicians. - Exclusive use is made of original accessories, consumables and spare parts.

ALPHA-PORT ceiling pendant range consists of: • Four arm types: - BL light arm - BM medium arm - BS strong arm - BH heavy arm • Three basic arm variants: - a single arm with one articulated beam - a double arm with two articulated beams - a single arm with PL G • A PL G ceiling supply unit consisting of a single articulated beam equipped with a support head. • Combinations of three basic arm variants or arm/surgical light/media variants mounted from a common plate. The height offsetspacer of both arms with this configuration is only essential if one of the arms has to pass under the other arm. • Rotary column with gas hose connection and/or electrical connection Refer to figure 1 for a sample of the arm configurations available. 2.1.2
General Characteristics
• Standard beam lengths are as follows: - BL light arm: 600 mm and 900 mm (23.6” and 35.4”) - BM medium arm and BH heavy arm: 600 mm, 900 mm and 1200 mm (23.6”, 35.4” and 47.2”) • The upper beam of a double arm is always longer than the lower beam, which is a recommendation to the customer. • The gases are distributed by distribution module compartments. The gas network and the gas connectors are linked by flexible hoses, except in the case of the fixed column, which uses rigid pipes. • Power is distributed by distribution module compartments, and the electrical cable network and power connector are linked by conduits or cables (conduits are a requirement in USA).

It is essential not to exceed the maximum mechanical load capacity of each arm. The maximum amount of user equipment that can be placed on the unit can be determined using the procedure outlined in section 2.3 “Determining the useful load of a ceiling supply unit”. Support heads and accessories
The maximum load allowed is marked on the support head of every ALPHA-PORT ceiling supply unit. Exceeding the stated value impairs the safety of the ceiling supply unit and can be hazardous to the operator. If shelves, pump rods, rails or monitor holders are added, the total load allowed is reduced by the weight of the added accessory. Any change may only be carried out with the help of MAQUET or an authorized representative. Depending on their optional equipment, support heads can be used for: • Carrying and positioning equipment on shelves (e.g. monitors) and their electrical power supply and grounding. • Carrying and positioning communication outlets and video equipment (e.g. camera, flatscreens) • Carrying and positioning medical devices such as infusion management systems on installed pump rods • Supplying medical gases and / or evacuating these gases. 2.2.1
Available versions
• Suspension tube (TUB A) and SLIMLINE support head • Suspension tube (TUB A) and CONSOLE support head • TUB DIS support head • PL G suspension tube (PL G TUB) and PL G arm. 2.2.2
Available lengths and heights
• Suspension tube (TUB A): 100 mm to 1000 mm in increments of 100 mm. • SLIMLINE: 400 mm, 800 mm, 1200 mm. • CONSOLE: 400 mm, 600 mm, 800 mm, 1200 mm • TUB DIS: 1000 mm to 2400 mm in increments of 200 mm. • PL G TUB: 200 mm to 1000 mm in increments of 100 mm. Height must be specified at the time of order. 2.2.3
Accessories
The basic accessory range includes: • common shelves: - 400 × 500 mm (15.7” X 19.7”) - 500 × 500 mm (19.7” X 19.7”) - 600 × 500 mm (23.6” X 19.7”) with a carrying capacity of 80 kg (176 lbs). • special shelves: - light shelf 255 × 255 mm (10” X 10”) to be mounted on a standard rail with a carrying capacity of 20 kg (44 lbs). - swivel shelf 400 × 360 mm (15.7” X 14.1”) to be fixed on a twin support arm with a carrying capacity of 15 kg (33 lbs). • drawers: - a drawer unit with one drawer (3.6” deep) and shelf, able to carry 60 kg (132 lbs) on the shelf and 10 kg (22 lbs) in the drawer; - a drawer unit with two drawers (3.6” deep) and shelf, able to carry 50 kg (110 lbs) on the shelf and 10 kg (22 lbs) in each drawer; - a high drawer unit with one drawer (7.2” deep) and shelf, able to carry 50 kg (110 lbs) on the shelf and 20 kg (44 lbs) in the drawer; - swivel drawer 400 × 360 mm (15.7” X 14.1”), able to carry 10 kg (22 lbs). • two keyboard shelf sizes: - 500 x 500 (useful width: 440 mm) - 600 x 500 (useful width: 540 mm)

The height of the shelves, rails and rack mounted accessories can be adjusted by means of the tracks in the front of the support heads per installation manual or using the rotary clamp for the distribution tube.

2.3
Determining the useful load of a ceiling supply unit
• This section tells you how to determine the useful load or allowable weight for user-specific equipment that can be mounted on the ceiling supply unit. A software program ensures easy and error-free calculation on the date of installation of your distribution arm. • The gross load is the load which the mechanical part of the ceiling pendant can support. This part is tested with a safety factor of 4 in compliance with standard IEC 60601-1: 2007. •
The useful load of the ceiling supply unit is determined by subtracting the weight of the MAQUET equipment that hangs from the arm system from the gross load for the arm system provided in Table 1. The gross arm load varies depending on the type and length of the arm selected.
• The accessories also have a gross load capacity defining the amount of weight that they can support. This information is listed in Table 2 for your reference. Do not overload individual accessories with equipment that exceeds the gross load specified in Table 2. • A list of MAQUET equipment that always should be included in the useful load calculation is as follows: - suspension tube - support head - shelves and drawers - other miscellaneous MAQUET ceiling supply unit accessories • The weight of the MAQUET equipment can be found in Table 3. •
After calculating the useful load value, it should be evaluated in terms of the user supplied medical equipment that is intended to be mounted on the ceiling supply unit. This might include: - monitors - camera control - insuflator - electrosurgical unit - infusion pumps & IV bags - harmonic scapel - suction canisters • The weight of these accessories can be obtained from the manufacturers. •
It is recommended that excess capacity always be planned to allow future flexibility and configuration changes.

3.1
Loading and unloading the distribution modules and accessories
The maximum load allowed is marked on the support head of every ALPHA-PORT ceiling pendant. Exceeding the stated value causes the arm to tilt by more than 1°, impairs the safety of the ceiling supply unit and can be hazardous to the operator. If shelves, pump rods, rails or monitor holders are added, the total load allowed is reduced by the weight of the added accessory. Any change may only be carried out with the help of MAQUET or an authorized representative. •
The maximum allowable loads are shown in table 2 of section 2.3.

The installation of new equipment may mean moving the accessoriess. Information on moving them can be found in the installation manual.
The distribution handle for the user is only to rotate the pendant. Do not lift the support head by the handle, or carry anyt hing else on it. The maximum torque is 20Nm. If the user equipment is not fixed securely, it can fall off during positioning and lead to severe injury. Always secure all user equipment. The installation and use of products must comply with EN ISO 7396-1, EN ISO 7396-2 and all applicable local codes. For USA only, the installation and use of products must comply with NFPA 70, NFPA 99 and all applicable local codes.

Optional electro-pneumatic brakes
The arms systems come with mechanical friction brakes as a standard on all joints. The BL light arm, BM medium arm, BS strong arm and BH heavy arm modules may be fitted with electro-pneumatic brakes as an option. Electro-pneumatic brakes are available for each of the shafts individually and need to be supplied with a compressed air circuit (minimum: 3.1 bar/45 PSI and maximum: 5.0 bar/72.5 PSI). The purpose of the brakes is to: •
prevent arms from unintentional movement, for greater safety
•
make the arms easier to move, even under maximum load

In an emergency, the arms can be moved by exerting strong force without using the control button.
Electro-pneumatic brake operation (Fig.3) • Release the pneumatic brakes by pressing the appropriate brake control keypad (1, 2 or 3) of figure 3. • With the brake control keypad still being pressed, move the ceiling pendant horizontally into the desired position.

The efficiency of the electro-pneumatic brake system is reduced when the compressed air pressure is less than 3.1 bar. The braking torque remains above 50Nm.

Brake system of PL G
The PL G brake is available at the joints of PL G module and tube as a standard configuration. The purpose of the PL G brake is to prevent the pendant from unintended vertical movement for greater safety, and to provide the possibility of the PL G pendant vertical positioning for easier operation. Operation procedure (Fig.4) • Rotate the control handle (1) according to the direction indicated on the PL G handle label (2) to release the PL G brake system. • Hold the handle with rotated force (approximately 80N to 110N) to move the PL G vertically to the desired position. • Release the PL G handle to lock position of PL G pendant.
