BIOCON-700 QUICK START GUIDE SCANNER OVERVIEW Please refer to the operator manual for full instructions. Please note software upgrades are available on older models to install new features. Ensure the probe head is securely stored in its bag or trolley. POWER & CHARGING Press the POWER button once to switch on, (for older models press & hold the POWER button). Recharge when the battery level indicator is on one bar. The scanner can also be operated from the mains. SELECT PATIENT TYPE Any patient weighing less than 25kg (55lbs) is suitable for the child setting (includes neonates) as it is a shorter scan depth. The yellow line indicates child scan depth (8cm). If the bladder encroaches beyond the child scan depth marker, SELECT EXIT AND SCAN AGAIN having selected the appropriate adult patient setting (scan depth 18cm). Pubic bone Bladder Uterus For post hysterectomy females, please select the male setting. Male Female Scan depth 18cm The female setting allows the scanner to compensate for the presence of the uterus. (A very small amount of fluid is held within the uterus - approx. +/- 10ml but varies depending upon condition/medication/number of child births etc) Transgender patients - set to male for any patient without a uterus, set to female for any patient with a uterus. PROBE PREPARATION USE ONLY A RECOGNISED ULTRASOUND TRANSMISSION GEL It is recommended that you clean the probe before and after using detergent wipes in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure the patient is in the supine position with abdominal muscles relaxed. Apply ultrasound gel directly onto the probe, position the probe midline on the patient’s abdomen approximately 3cm above the symphysis pubis (pubic bone). Ensure the SCAN KEY IS ON THE PATIENT’S RIGHT HAND SIDE, with the head on the patient icon pointing towards the patient’s head as depicted below. Aim the ultrasound rays slowly towards the patient’s feet (under the pubic bone) – this is to find the largest (black image) view of the bladder. It is not necessary to keep moving the probe head, just a slight adjustment of the angle or change of pressure. de Smit Medical Systems, Unit 15 Falcons Gate, Dean Road, Yate, Bristol, BS37 5NH Tel: 0845 345 4226 || Fax: 0845 345 4227 || Email: sales@desmitmedical.com || Web: www.desmitmedical.com V5 01/04/2020 - Z:PRODUCTSMCUBEBIOCON-700QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
