Operating Instructions neoBLUE® cozy LED Phototherapy Overview The neoBLUE cozy LED Phototherapy System is a lightweight and portable device that is positioned underneath the baby to deliver phototherapy via blue light emitting diodes (LEDs). The neoBLUE cozy system consists of an enclosed LED light panel, a mattress, a disposable mattress cover, and a power supply. The blue LEDs emit light in the range of 400 – 550 nm (peak wavelength 450-470 nm). This range corresponds to the peak absorption of light by bilirubin, and is thus considered to be the most effective for the treatment of newborn jaundice.
Warning! The device should not be used on its own outside of an enclosure. There is a potential for the baby to roll off the device. Warning! The device uses ambient air to keep the LEDs cool. Do not use the device if the ambient temperature is warmer than 30ºC (86ºF). Setting up the neoBLUE cozy Device
Administering Phototherapy Treatment
1. Plug the power supply into the base of the neoBLUE cozy device. Route the power cord of the neoBLUE cozy device so that it lies outside the vicinity of the baby and is plugged into a grounded (3-prong) power outlet. neoBLUE cozy power cord
4. Place the disposable mattress cover over the neoBLUE cozy mattress. Use only the mattress and covers supplied with the device to ensure proper delivery of light to the baby. disposable mattress cover

The channel in the base of the enclosure can be used to route the cable to the head of the device.
Note: If you are sensitive to the blue light, use the neoBLUE cozy device in a well-lighted area. You may also place bumpers, head protectors, or rolled up blankets on the neoBLUE cozy mattress, around the baby. 1. ATTENTION: Cover the baby’s eyes with protective eye shields prior to initiating phototherapy.
Rolled up blankets, head protectors or bumpers can be placed within the device as needed. Ensure that they do not compromise phototherapy treatment to the baby. Ensure that blankets are not blocking vents.

3. Turn on the phototherapy device by moving the power switch to the ON “I” position. 2. Place the baby (unclothed) in the neoBLUE cozy device on top of the covered mattress. Note: The baby’s head should be positioned at the curved end of the device. The baby should be placed with his/her back against the mattress.
2. Place the neoBLUE cozy device in an enclosure (e.g., bassinet). The bassinet’s mattress may be removed prior to placing the neoBLUE cozy device. 5. Place the covered neoBLUE cozy mattress into the neoBLUE cozy system so that it lies flat.
A blanket may be placed over the baby for added warmth. Head at curved end of device Baby’s back against mattress
3. Position the neoBLUE cozy device so that the air vents are not covered by blankets or clothing or positioned against obstructing surfaces.

Note: If the surface temperature of the LED panel becomes too warm, the phototherapy light will automatically shut off as the ventilation fan continues to operate. A red blinking light will alert you to check the air vents and ensure that they are not obstructed. Once the temperature has decreased, the blue LEDs will automatically turn back on; however, the red flashing light will remain on. To inactivate the blinking light, power off the neoBLUE cozy system and then power it back on. Note: Turn off the neoBLUE cozy light when feeding or diapering the baby.

Use with Patient Enclosures such as Bassinets and Radiant Warmers The neoBLUE cozy device must be placed within a patient enclosure. If blankets are used, ensure they are not blocking the vents on the exterior of the neoBLUE cozy device.
Use with an Incubator The neoBLUE cozy device can be used in incubators under certain conditions.
Warning! Placement within an incubator: The light is not designed to be used in an oxygen enriched environment. Only use in the presence of room oxygen. The operating temperature for the neoBLUE cozy device is 20-30o C. Though the device will initially operate in warmer conditions when new, use in warmer environments will shorten the life of the LED panel. Monitor patient temperature when used in warmer environments. Surface Area Coverage The infant should be placed in the supine position on the neoBLUE cozy device. If additional surface area coverage is required, neoBLUE overhead lights may be used in conjunction with the neoBLUE cozy device.
neoBLUE Light Intensity Output Conversion Chart The light intensity output of the neoBLUE device is measured at Natus prior to shipment with the Ohmeda BiliBlanket® Meter. Because your facility may use a different photometer to measure the light intensity output, it is necessary to understand how your reading correlates to the Ohmeda meter reading. The following table provides a light intensity output conversion chart. Photometer
