CAUTION The contained OPD Software for External PC (“Software”) and related explanatory written materials may be used only when you agree with the “SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT” below. Before unpacking the software package or using the Software, thoroughly read “SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT”.
OPD Software for External PC SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT This Agreement is the agreement between you (regardless of private users or corporate users) and NIDEK CO., LTD (hereafter referred to as NIDEK). By opening this package or starting the use of the Software you accept all the terms and conditions of this Agreement. If you do not agree with the terms and conditions of this Agreement, return the software package, UNOPENED, along with the rest of the package, to NIDEK or the location where you obtained it. 1. GENERAL This Agreement takes effect from the date of reception of the Software product. This License Agreement will be terminated if you fail to comply with any term or condition outlined in this Agreement. The Software and Operator’s Manual are subject to change without notice for improvement. 2. GRANT OF LICENSE NIDEK grants the following license regarding the purchased software “OPD Software for External PC” (“Software”) to you based on this License Agreement. You may use the Software in a single location on a hard disk of a computer. “Use” of the Software means reading the Software to a temporary memory such as RAM of a computer, or installing the Software on a fixed memory such as a hard disk. When the Software is used on multiple computers, you must obtain the same number of the Licenses as the number of computers where the Software will be used even if the Software will not be used concurrently on multiple computers. Installing the Software into a fixed memory such as a hard disk of a computer from the server, does not mean “Using” the Software as long as the server computer is used only for installing the Software into another computer. In such cases, once another computer has the Software installed from the server, that computer needs the License. 3. COPYRIGHT OF THE SOFTWARE The Software is owned by NIDEK. You may make one backup copy of the Software only for the purpose of personal backup or storage. You may also keep the original as a backup or storage and install the Software in a single location on a hard disk of a computer. Except for those mentioned, you may not duplicate or divert the Software. You may not copy any documents accompanying this Software. 4. OTHER CONDITIONS FOR USE You may not give or loan the Software to any third person. Granting of the Software to any third person will terminate this License Agreement and relieve all obligations imposed on NIDEK, regardless of whether the Software is paid for or not.

5. WARRANTY You may ask for repair or replacement when finding any physical damage to the CD-ROM or printed materials within a month from the receipt of the Software. NIDEK warrants the Software by replacing it with a functionally equivalent one when a significant error hinders you from achieving your objectives within the performance specifications of the Software. NIDEK assumes no responsibility for any damages (such as physical, financial loss, loss of information and others) caused by the use or nonperformance of the Software under normal conditions even if NIDEK is informed of a possibility of such damages. NIDEK assumes no responsibility for Software failure, or damages to the Software caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes, or fire, other accidents, acts by third persons, intentional acts, negligence, misuse, or under other abnormal conditions. * If you have any questions about this Agreement, contact NIDEK.

Use this software properly and safely.
BEFORE INSTALLING THE OPD SOFTWARE TO AN EXTERNAL PC (personal computer), READ THIS MANUAL. This operator’s manual includes operating procedures and safety precautions for connecting the NIDEK Refractive Power/Corneal Analyzer OPD-Scan III with an external personal computer on which the OPD Software for External PC is installed. Cautions for safety and operating procedures of this manual and OPD-Scan III Operator’s Manual must be thoroughly understood before using this software. Refer to the OPD-Scan III Operator’s Manual for this software operation. If you encounter any problems or have questions about the software, please contact NIDEK or your authorized distributor.
Safety precautions In this manual, a signal word is used to designate the degree or level of safety alerting. The definition is as follows:
CAUTION • Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury or property damage accident.
Even situations indicated by “ CAUTION” may result in serious injury under certain conditions. Safety precautions must be strictly followed at all times.

Use precautions
Before use CAUTION • Before connecting the OPD-Scan III to a personal computer, back up the data to ensure against database corruption. Refer to the OPD-Scan III operator’s manual.
• Data maintenance is the responsibility of the user. NIDEK assumes no responsibility for any loss of data. • The OPD-Scan III may be connected to a PC on a network that shares a database, however, the network must not be able to access the Internet. Configure the local network only with related devices and software such as the OPDScan III and a PC with this OPD Software and Final Fit. NIDEK will not assume responsibility or compensate for damages caused by any virus infection via the Internet. The OPD-Scan III is a medical device. If the user changes the original installation conditions by installing other software such as antivirus software, NIDEK will not guarantee proper operation of the instrument. • Settings must be made to both the PC and the OPD-Scan III. Read this manual thoroughly to make sure the setting procedures are applied to the proper device. Explanations followed by [OPD] indicate procedures performed on the OPD-Scan III. • To install, update, or uninstall this software and OPD Database Manager, log in as a Windows administrator.
Maintenance service personnel trained by NIDEK are allowed to repair and service the CAUTION • Only software. NIDEK assumes no responsibility for any adverse events resulting from improper servicing.
Disposal CAUTION • Follow local governing ordinances and recycling plans regarding disposal or recycling.
It is recommended to entrust the disposal to a designated industrial waste disposal contractor. Inappropriate disposal may contaminate the environment. • When disposing of packing materials, sort them by material and follow local governing ordinances and recycling plans. The OPD Software for External PC is installed on an external PC to save measurement data on the PC's hard disk directly from the connected OPD-Scan III. With the OPD-Scan III, maps of measurement and saved data can be displayed on both the OPDScan III and external PC. Before using this software, the contents of “2.2 Note in Use” (Page 19) must be thoroughly understood.

{ Required items OPD-Scan III Personal computer on which to install the OPD Software for External PC OPD Software for External PC installation CD OPD Software for External PC USB license key LAN cable (commercial 100BASE-T cross cable) • The installation CD contains OPD Database Manager in addition to OPD Software. • When OPD Software for External PC is installed to a standalone PC, the OPD-Scan III and LAN cable are unnecessary. Measurement data to be displayed with the OPD Software for External PC is imported using removable media.
• Be sure to store the installation CD with care because it is necessary for uninstalling or reinstalling OPD Software for External PC and OPD Database Manager.

Installing OPD Software for External PC

Explanation for the installation of OPD Software for External PC and OPD Database Manager is provided here. For installation of only OPD Database Manager on a server PC, see “1.2.2 Installing OPD Database Manager on server PC” (Page 7). • Be sure to log in as Administrator of Windows.
1 Turn on the external PC. 2 Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The setup program starts automatically. If the setup program does not start, open the installation CD in Windows Explorer and double-click “RK10_PCSetup_V*****PC.exe”. When the OS is Windows Vista or Windows 7, the User Account Control dialog box appears, Click “Yes” to continue.
3 When the warning message as shown to the
right is displayed, check the contents and click “OK”.
The License Agreement dialog box appears. Read the agreement carefully and click “Agree” to continue setup.

4 When “Agree” is clicked, the Setup window is displayed.
5 Click “Set up OPD-Scan III”. 6 When the OPD-Scan III Setup window as shown to the right is displayed, click “Next”.
The window for determining the program installation destination appears. If necessary, press “Browse...” and input the desired destination.
7 Click “Next”. 8 When the Start Copying Files window as shown to the right is displayed, click “Next”.

The software installation starts. If OPD Database Manager has not already been installed to the PC, OPD Database Manager is installed subsequently.

9 When the OPD Database Manger Setup window as shown to the right is displayed, click “Next”.
The window for determining the OPD Database Manager installation destination appears. If necessary, input the desired destination.
10 Click “Next”. The window for determining the database installation destination appears. If necessary, input the desired destination.

12 When the Start Copying Files window as shown to the right is displayed, click “Next”.
Installation of OPD Database Manager starts.
13 When OPD Database Manager installation is complete, the window as shown to the right is displayed. Click “Finish”. Check “Create shortcut on desktop.” as desired.
14 When OPD Software for External PC installation is complete, the window as shown to the right is displayed. Click “Finish”. Check “Create shortcut on desktop.” as desired.
15 Remove the installation CD from the CD-ROM drive. Installation is complete.

Installing OPD Database Manager on server PC Explanation for the installation of OPD Database Manager only on the server PC is provided here. In this case, the database can be located on the server PC, however OPD Software cannot be used on the server PC.

PC CONNECTION When the OPD-Scan III is placed near a PC on which the OPD Software for External PC is installed, they can be directly connected with a LAN cable (commercial 100BASE-T cross cable) or connected in a small network. Maps of measurement and saved data can be displayed on the OPD-Scan III as well as the PC. With this method, one database can be shared by both the OPD-Scan III and PC.

Connecting and Setting External PC Explanations followed by [OPD] indicate procedures performed on the OPD-Scan III. The other operations are performed on the PC. • Screen indications may differ depending on the version of the Windows OS.
For network connection, the OPD-Scan III and PC must belong to the same domain or workgroup. If not, access between each other is impossible.
2.1.1
Workgroup connection
1 Connect the LAN cable. For a single, non-networked connection, connect the OPD-Scan III to the PC directly using a commercial 100BASE-T cross cable as the LAN cable. 1) Connect the LAN cable to the Ethernet port of the OPD-Scan III. [OPD] 2) Connect the LAN cable to the Ethernet port of the PC. When connecting the OPD-Scan III to two or more PCs, use a hub.
2 Turn on the OPD-Scan III. [OPD] 3 Turn on the PC. 4 Create a folder to which measurement data is saved on the PC. Create a folder on a hard disk with a sufficient free space. When the OPD Software was installed, the RK-3 folder was created in the C drive as the default destination folder. If this folder is to be used, Steps 4 and 5 are unnecessary. • The newly-created folder does not necessary need to be named the RK-3 folder.
1) Create the RK-3 folder in the location to save measurement data.

2) Open the RK-3 folder and create the following six folders. BackupData, BackupIndex, Cal, Data, Index, and Outside folders
5 Specify the destination to save the database of OPD Software on the PC. 1) Insert the USB license key and start OPD Software. 2) Press “Database” on the Maintenance screen to display the OPD Database Manger screen. Clicking the icon on the task tray in the lowerright Windows screen displays also the OPD Database Manager screen.
3) Press “Stop” to stop the connection to the database.
4) Confirm that “Local” is selected. 5) Click “Advanced settings” to display the advanced settings. 6) Click “Ref...” to display the Select Database window. The RK-3 folder in the C drive is selected as default.
