The AUTOLITH ® System Quick Reference and Information Guide Indicated for:
Urinary & Biliary Stones
BiPolar Electro-Hydraulic Lithotripsy Getting STARTED ®
Turn on the power “ON” switch after plugging the AUTOLITH System into a proper power outlet. Attach the foot-pedal to the front panel foot-pedal port and place the sterilized EHL Probe and Extender Cable onto the sterile field using proper sterile technique.
Align the green lines to connect
Connecting the EHL Probe Connect the EHL probe to the end of the extender cable opposite the square black ferrite. Pass the remaining end of the extender cable to the O.R. circulator.
EHL Probe Recognition The O.R. circulating nurse should then connect the remaining end of the extender cable to the front panel “PROBE” port. Notice the “Connect Probe” message change to indicate the size of the EHL probe that has ® been connected, i.e. 1.9Fr. (.63mm). The AUTOLITH System will now deliver the precise amount of energy specific to the size of the connected EHL probe.
The Endoscope and EHL Probe The doctor should now prepare to fragment the stone. Careful insertion of the EHL probe into the appropriate endoscope working channel is now accomplished and treatment of the stone is ready to start. Using direct visualization, the EHL probe tip and the stone are sighted. Normal physiological SALINE (premixed bags of .9% normal saline) should be used for irrigation at all times.
Power Start LOW and increase the power if needed for effective stone fragmentation.
The total power range is 10% to 100% Suggested to start: 30%-40% Power
Frequency of Shots This adjusts how fast the selected number of shots are delivered. For stones that are free to move or bounce away, select fewer shots at a higher frequency. A rate of 30 shots per second is the highest (fast) frequency setting. A rate of 1 shot per second is the slowest frequency setting. Suggested setting: 30/sec.
Number of Shots Again, if the stone can move or bounce away, select fewer shots. A maximum of 60 shots delivered over 2 seconds is the maximum number of shots that can be fired with 1 foot-pedal depression.
Suggested setting: 3-5 shots per foot-pedal depression.
Keeping the probe tip 1-2mm from the stone surface is ideal.
The OUTPUT light will flash every time a shot has been triggered. Note: • Using higher power settings and a higher number of shots may reduce probe life. • The most effective stone fragmentation occurs with the end of the EHL probe 1-2mm from the stones surface.
• Press the Standby button to avoid unintentional probe firings. This feature is useful if the scope and EHL probe are brought outside of the body. • Press Total Shots to see how many shots have been discharged.
