Intended purpose The camera head has been designed to be used with Olympus endoscopes, video system center, and other ancillary equipment for endoscopic diagnosis, treatment, and observation.
Contraindications Do not perform observation or treatment of the heart or its vicinity in combination with devices classified as TYPE BF applied part. Leakage current from the TYPE BF applied part may be dangerous and cause ventricular fibrillation or otherwise seriously affect the cardiac function of the patient.
Clinical benefits Supports to achieve the clinical benefit of connected endoscopes, video system centers, light sources, and other ancillary equipment by providing endoscopic diagnosis, treatment, and observation.
Applicability of endoscopy and endoscopic treatment • If there are official standards on the applicability of endoscopy and endoscopic treatment that are defined by the healthcare facility’s administrators or other official institutions, such as academic societies on endoscopy, follow those standards. • Before starting endoscopy and endoscopic treatment, thoroughly evaluate its properties, purposes, effects, and possible risks (their nature, extent, and probability). Perform endoscopy and endoscopic treatment only when its potential benefits are greater than its risks. • Fully explain to the patient the potential benefits and risks of the endoscopy and endoscopic treatment as well as any examination/treatment methods that can be performed in its place, and perform the endoscopy and endoscopic treatment only after obtaining the consent of the patient. • Even after starting the endoscopy and endoscopic treatment, continue to evaluate the potential benefits and risks, and immediately stop the endoscopy/treatment and take proper measures if the risks to the patient become greater than the potential benefits.

Precautions
Please Read Before Use
Observe the danger, warning and cautions given below when using this product. Also observe each warning and caution given in each chapter.
Regarding handling of the device
If strong impact was inflicted on the camera head, do not use the camera head anymore and contact Olympus. Serious damage that would result in irregularity in image, heat radiation, or malfunctioning could have been done to the device.
• Each part of the camera head must not be subjected to strong force or impact. Inflicting strong force or impact on each part of the camera head may result in a breakdown of the device. − Do not squeeze, pull, twist, rub the camera cable hard. Also do not bend the camera cable into a small arc whose diameter is 20 cm or smaller. − Do not inflict strong impact on the camera head part and the video connector with the electrical contacts. • When you bundle the camera cable, coil up without twisting it. The cable can be coiled without twists by piling loops that are made by crossing the cable in front and back alternately. When you straighten the cable, do not pull at it but slowly uncoil the loops. Pulling at the cable may break the device.

Regarding preparation and inspection of the device
Please Read Before Use
• Only use combinations of devices recommended by Olympus. Use of unrecommended combinations may result in not only a breakdown of the devices but also serious harm. • Confirm the following before using the device. If you are suspicious about contamination of the device, reprocess it again and then use it. − The state of being disinfected or sterilized has been properly maintained and managed. − It is before expiration date of the sterilized device. − There is no irregularity in the wrapping material for sterilization, a tear, moisture beads on its surface and such. • Prepare a backup device in case of a breakdown of the device during use. Also when performing an endoscopic surgery, make preparations to move into a laparotomy. • Observe the following when connecting the device to an electrical power source. If not, it may result in a fire or electrical shock. − Connect the plug with an earth terminal directly to a medical electrical outlet of the medical facility. Do not use an extension cord. − When using related devices other than medical electrical equipment, be sure to connect to an electrical power source through an isolation transformer Olympus recommends. • Observe the following when connecting the camera head to the video system center. If not, it may lead to irregularity in image, heat radiation, or malfunctioning. − If the electrical contacts of the video connector or optical connecting part is dirty or wet, wipe them clean and dry them fully, and then connect. − Confirm that the video connector is locked after it is connected. − Turn off the video system center before you connect or disconnect the video connector. − When disconnecting the video connector, do not pull at the camera cable. • When attaching the camera head to the endoscope, observe the following. If not, not only it may lead to irregularity in image, but also the endoscope may fall off during use. − Before attaching, confirm that the eyepiece of the endoscope is tightly in place. − After attaching, confirm that the endoscope and the camera head are firmly attached without rattling.

Regarding use of the device
• Do not perform observation or treatment of the heart or its vicinity in combination with devices classified as TYPE BF applied part. Leakage current from the TYPE BF applied part may be dangerous and cause ventricular fibrillation or otherwise seriously affect the cardiac function of the patient. − The Medical Electrical Equipment Safety Standard (IEC 60601-1) states that all devices used for procedures aimed at observing or treating the heart must have a TYPE CF applied part with a low level of leakage current. Be sure to check the classification of the combination device before use. • Do not use the device in the following locations. It may lead to an explosion or a fire. − Where oxygen density is high. − In the atmosphere of oxides such as laughing gas (N2O). − Where flammable anesthetic gas is used. − In the vicinity of flammable liquid.
• Use the endoscope only for the purposes described in intended use of this product. Using the endoscope for other than its intended purpose may result in not only a breakdown of the device but also serious harm. • Do not use the device under condition and in an environment other than those described in “Environment” on page 54. Using the device in the other environment may cause the device to heat excessively or irregularity in image.
