Chapter 3 Installation and Connection
Chapter 3 Installation and Connection Follow the precautions given below. Otherwise, the patient or the operator can be subjected to an electric shock. For information on attaching the digital camera, refer to its instruction manual. − Do not splash or spill water, or other liquid onto the equipment. − Do not prepare, inspect, or operate the equipment with wet hands.
If the digital camera is not securely connected to its adapter, both the camera and adapter may fall off, leading to patient or operator injury and/or damage to the equipment. Prepare the instrument and compatible equipment (shown in the “System chart” in the Appendix) before each use. Refer to the respective instruction manuals for each equipment. Install and connect all equipment as described in this chapter.

Connecting the AC adapter •
Do not use an AC adapter other than the provided one. Otherwise, a malfunction of the camera or power supply or electric shock to the operator may result.
•
Connect the AC adapter to an isolation transformer before connecting it to this product. Otherwise, an electric shock may result.
•
The power consumption of the peripheral equipment should not exceed the isolation transformer's capacity. It the power consumption exceeds the capacity of one isolation transformer, use a second isolation transformer.
When the AC adapter is used, be careful where to leave the main part of the AC adapter. Otherwise, the main part of the AC adapter may fall off and will be damaged when operating the arm.

Chapter 4 Preparation and Inspection
Chapter 4 Preparation and Inspection Before each case, prepare and inspect this instrument as instructed below. Inspect other equipment to be used with this instrument as instructed in their respective instruction manuals. Should the slightest irregularity be suspected, do not use the instrument and see Chapter 7, “Troubleshooting”. If the irregularity is still suspected after consulting Chapter 7, contact Olympus. Damage or irregularity may compromise patient or operator safety and may result in more-severe equipment damage. Prepare this instrument and other compatible equipment to be used with this instrument (shown in the “System chart” in the Appendix) for the particular case. Refer to the respective instruction manuals for each item.
4.1
Inspecting the connections If the digital camera is not securely connected to the digital camera adapter, both the camera and adapter may fall off, leading to patient or operator injury and/or equipment damage. If you find a connection that is not secure, repeat the connecting procedures as described in Chapter 3, “Installation and Connection”.
1. Confirm that the digital camera is securely connected to the camera mount. 2. Confirm that the camera mount is securely connected to the digital camera adapter.
3. Confirm that the digital camera adapter is securely connected to the camera adapter mount of the zoom microscope body.

Chapter 5 Operation
Chapter 5 Operation The operator of this instrument must be a physician or medical personnel under the supervision of a physician and must have received sufficient training in clinical colposcopic technique. This manual, therefore, does not explain or discuss clinical colposcopic procedures. It only describes basic operation and precautions related to the operation of this instrument.
•
Wear personal protective equipment to guard against dangerous chemicals and potentially infectious material. During the procedure, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as eye wear, face mask, moisture-resistant clothing and chemical-resistant gloves that fit properly and are long enough so that your skin is not exposed.
•
Anytime you suspect an abnormality with an instrument function, stop the examination immediately. Using a colposcope that is not functioning properly may cause patient injury.

Chapter 5 Operation
5.1
Setting up the digital camera Set the menu of the digital camera by referring to its instruction manual. Set the optimum white balance for the shooting conditions by pointing the zoom microscope body at a white object like a sheet of white paper. Refer to the instruction manual of the digital camera for details.
•
If the white balance is not properly adjusted, the color reproduction of the photomicrograph image is poor.

Chapter 5 Operation
5.2
Photography 1. Confirm that the reticle in the eyepiece (right side) is clear. If it is not clear, adjust the diopter as described in the instruction manual for the colposcope (OCS-500). When the field of view is in focus, the digital image will also be in focus (see Figure 5.1).
Figure 5.1
If you need more precise focusing, set the magnification at the maximum level by operating the zoom magnification change knob, adjust the focus, then reset the magnification to the desired value.
2. Maximize the light intensity as described in the instruction manual for the light source. Set the composition and check that the operational part is not activated. Then press the button on the remote control switch of the digital camera or the remote cable release of the digital camera (see Figure 5.2). Remote control switch

Chapter 5 Operation
•
We recommend using the remote control switch or the remote cable release to take pictures. Operating the release button of the digital camera manually may move the camera, which will frequently cause the picture to be blurred, especially at high levels of magnification.
•
When using the remote cable for the digital camera (E-1), refer to the instruction manual of the digital camera (E-1).
•
When using the remote cable for the digital camera (E-300), the optional power battery holder (HLD-3) must be connected to the digital camera. Refer to the instruction manual of the power battery holder (HLD-3) for details.

Chapter 6 Care, Storage and Disposal
Chapter 6 Care, Storage and Disposal 6.1
Care •
After cleaning the digital camera adapter, dry it thoroughly before use. If it is used while wet, there is a risk of an electric shock.
•
Patient debris and reprocessing chemicals are hazardous. Wear personal protective equipment to guard against dangerous chemicals and potentially infectious material. During cleaning, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, eye wear, face mask, moisture-resistant clothing and chemical-resistant gloves that fit properly and are long enough so that your skin is not exposed. Always remove contaminated protective clothing before leaving the reprocessing area.
•
Do not attempt to autoclave or gas sterilize the digital camera adapter. Either of these methods may cause equipment damage.
•
Do not wipe the surface of the digital camera adapter with an abrasive material. Otherwise, the surface may be damaged.
If the adapter becomes soiled, perform the following cleaning procedures immediately after use. If cleaning is delayed, organic debris will solidify and it may be difficult to effectively clean the adapter. The adapter should also be cleaned routinely.
1. Should the adapter become soiled with blood or other potentially infectious patient material, first wipe off all gross debris using a soft, lint-free moistened cloth and clean the external surfaces with detergent solution. Then wipe the adapter with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with 70% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol.
2. Remove any dirt from the colposcope’s objective or lenses using a piece of gauze or lint-free cloth moistened with 70% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol.
3. Make sure that no liquid remains on the adapter or the colposcope. After wiping them with a soft, lint-free moistened cloth, be sure to dry them thoroughly.
