Operation
3.2
Use
3.2.1 General The machine is operated by means of a remote control with a spiral cable. Without a bed attached, this can be hung on the handle of the machine in the places prepared for it, or, with a bed attached, to the handle at the head of the bed. The regulation of speed and direction are sensitive enough to enable the user to steer very accurately. The machine pulls the bed; the user is behind it (see picture below).
The connection and disconnection of the bed in the room as well as the entering and leaving of rooms and/or lifts can be handled by one person.
3.2.2 Activating the Multi Bed Mover Mode of operation:
Turn the key to the right, to standby position. Only in this position are the electric circuits closed. Then press the green button (on the operating panel); this will make all the lamps on the operating panel and the remote control light up. The device is now ready to be moved. Take the steering lever of the remote control in your hand and first determine in which direction you want to go by using the forward/reverse switch. With your thumb you can easily operate the switch. By gradually pushing in the speed lever with your index finger you can progressively increase the speed or decrease it by slowly letting the lever come back up. The machine is steered by tilting the steering lever to the right or left in function of the direction in which you want to go.
Note: Make sure a minimum speed is maintained when using the steering lever. If this is the case, the machine keeps moving, which allows a much more accurate detection of steering corrections. As a consequence, the manoeuvres are carried out much more smoothly, resulting in greater comfort for the patient.

15
Operation
3.2.3 Connecting a bed The Multi Bed Mover is equipped with 2 specific claws at the front with which the bottom of the bed is grabbed and the machine is attached to the bed (see pictures below) (see also 3.1.2 – 3&4).
Mode of operation:
After entering the room, move the machine to the foot of the bed. Check whether the claws, according to the bed type, need to be placed on the inside or on the outside of the swivel castors. Now move the claws to the desired side using the corresponding press buttons on the operating panel (see 3.1.2 – 3&4). Then move the machine under the bed. If the bed is too low adjust the height so that the bed handle and the machine handle are at the same height. Move forward until you reach the buffer in the claw or the handle (according to the version). Make sure that the machine is parallel to the end of the bed and as far under it as possible. Move the claws with the press buttons (on the operating panel) towards the grabbing point so that they grab the bed. Keep checking during this phase as well that the machine remains parallel to the bed. If this is not the case, the connection procedure needs to be repeated; otherwise there is a risk that the bed comes loose during transport!

PTS / Multi Bed Mover / P4
16
Operation 3.2.4 Moving with a bed The machine has been activated and the bed has been attached. The bed transport with the Multi Bed Mover can now begin.
Mode of operation:
Release the bed brake and set all swivel castors to the free position. The remote control is taken off the machine and the user goes to the head of the bed which is against the wall. With the remote in his hand, the user gently pushes in the speed lever so that the bed slowly moves away from the wall and the user is able to stand between the wall and the bed. The user now positions himself behind the Bed and hangs the remote control on the left or the right side of the bed handle. His free hand should be placed on the bed handle in order to maintain contact with the bed and be able to feel the movements of the bed better. (see picture below).
Now push the machine toward the door by softly pushing in the accelerator again. By tilting the steering handle to the left or right, the machine and the bed will turn left or right. Make sure that a minimum speed is maintained during steering, so that any deviation of the machine can be detected more easily. Ride carefully when entering or leaving small spaces. Use the beeper (see 3.1.1 - 2) before entering the hallway.
3.2.5 Disconnecting a bed Mode of operation:
Hang the remote control on the machine again (left or right). Move the claws with the corresponding white press buttons, so that the claws separate from the bed. Put the machine in reverse (3.1.1 - 7) and softly push in the accelerator.
09-09/-Eng-P4
PTS / Multi Bed Mover / P4
17
Operation 3.2.6 Moving without a bed After the device has been activated, the machine handle can be put in shop position by lifting the handle lever (2.1 - 2) and pulling the handle backwards (see picture below).
Tilting the handle improves moving comfort (esp. when riding in reverse and through narrow corridors) as this way there is more space to walk. Important: In the shop position the electronic steering function of the Multi Bed Mover is automatically switched off so that the steering must now be done manually. The machine can also be moved without a bed with the machine handle in vertical position, especially in special situations such as passing through narrow passages, narrower than the width of the machine. In places where there is a lack of space, the handle is best put in vertical position. The remote control functions in the same way as during transport with a bed.
3.2.7 Deactivating the Multi Bed Mover -During working hours: Mode of operation: Turn the key to the left; the machine is now completely switched off. Remove the key and store it in a safe place. -After working hours: Mode of operation:
Store the machine in a safe place, with a 230V socket near. Turn the key to the left; the machine is now completely switched off. Remove the key and store it in a safe place. Preferably hang the remote control on the inside of the machine in order to prevent damage. Always charge the batteries (see 3.2.8).

18
Operation 3.2.8 Charging the batteries Battery situation On the handle, next to the start button, is the battery indicator. On the display a “b” of battery can be seen and at the bottom a pictogram of a battery. In between there are three LEDs: green, yellow and red, each reflecting a different battery situation: -Green = batteries in good condition (60% - 100%) -Yellow = batteries in average condition; make sure the red lamp does not suddenly light up with heavy loads (20% - 60%) -Red = urgently charge batteries (also when the red lamp suddenly lights up during a ride with a heavy load!) (< 20%) Charging the batteries The machine comes with a built-in charger which is specifically adapted to the installed batteries. The charging time depends on the discharge level of the batteries. The maximum charging time is 10 hours. Important: - Charging may only take place without a bed and not in operating or related rooms! - Charging can be done using any available 230V socket. - Charge the batteries every night, regardless of their discharge level! This way, the batteries are always in the best possible condition! - The charger can remain connected to the mains continuously, even for several days, without damaging the batteries (e.g. during holidays or weekends).
Mode of operation:
Place the machine as close as possible to a 230V socket and turn it off. All charging information is provided by 2 LEDs on the charger display: both LEDs will start flashing when the charger is connected to the 230V mains. The batteries are now being charged. When both LEDs stay lit continuously this means that at least 80% of the batteries has been charged. Take out the 230V plug from the bottom left side of the machine, pull the cord partly (= max. 3m!) out of the machine and connect the plug to a 230V socket.
Important: - Never pull the rope to the end! - Once the machine is connected to the mains, it cannot be activated anymore! - Make sure the LED on the operating panel and the LED on the relay compartment start flashing.
When the machine is fully charged, pull the plug from the socket and tug gently at the charging cord. This will make the cord roll up automatically. (With older models push the black button at the back of the machine to roll up the cord).
Careful: let the cord roll up smoothly and always hold on to the plug!
The machine can now be turned on again.

19
Operation
3.2.9 Emergency stop When one of the emergency brakes has been activated, the machine is completely blocked and switched off. The green LED on the remote control is not lit up anymore; the white press buttons for the operation of the claws on the operating panel, however, are still on. Before reactivating the machine the reason for the emergency stop must be determined. Careful: the reactivation of the machine does not take away possible errors that caused the activation of the emergency stop. The machine is reactivated by pulling the red part of the emergency stop handle back up; the lamp on the remote control will light up again. The machine is now on stand-by again and can be started as described under 3.2.2.
3.2.10 Useful tips for operation The patient's comfort always comes first!
Reassure the patient before activating the machine Attach the bed gently Carry out all movements as gently as possible The emergency brake is not a brake for regular use Adjust speed if the situation so requires Take into account visitors, other patients, children, etc. (use beeper in time) Cross uneven parts in the floor at low speed If the patient is still connected to medical equipment please consult the doctor in charge before initiating the transport
Practical tips!
Always stay in the centre of corridors; someone might suddenly come out of a room! Do not make any brusque steering movements while moving at full speed; this negatively affects the patient’s comfort! (put up the barriers) Let the machine do the work. Avoid drastic steering corrections and irregular speeds.
