GUS® Model G14KA (International) Instruction Manual
Principle of Operation Your probes are suspended in the two outside soaking containers, preventing damage to the sensitive tip. Fumes are drawn into the unit, away from the operator and into the filter. The center container is used for clean rinse water. This ensures that when the probes are removed from the unit, no high level disinfectant will drip or off-gas. A blower draws the fumes through the carbon filter where they are effectively neutralized and clean air is returned to the room. No ductwork or external venting is required.
Safety Precautions Disconnect power before replacing filter or when servicing the unit.

Setting up your GUS® Items Included Please check to ensure that your new GUS® system arrived with a packet containing the following parts: • • • • • • • •
Two hollow wall anchors and screws for wall mounting the unit Two glutaraldehyde warning labels Three 30.48cm soak/rinse containers with caps Two keys to safety door. One Phillips screwdriver Indelible ink pen for marking cable Warning Card – MUST be placed above the workstation Four tacks for mounting the Warning Card
Wall Mounting 1.
There must be a minimum of 10.16cm of clearance on the left side of the unit to allow for access to the On/Off switch and fuse; 5.08cm of clearance on the right side for adequate airflow, and 10.16cm of clearance beneath the unit.
2.
Measure up from the floor approximately 1.38m.
3.
At that point, using a level, draw a line approximately 35.56cm long. Place two pencil marks 33.02cm apart.
4.
Using the enclosed Phillips screwdriver, press the tip of the wall anchor through these two points and turn clockwise until the anchor is flush with the wall.
5.
Screw the two 1” Philips screws into the anchors. Back off the screws approximately .33cm from the wall and place the unit over the screws and tighten the screws. (Do not over-tighten the screws.)
6.
For masonry walls use a suitable lead or plastic shield and bolt. These shields are not supplied.
7.
You MUST tack the Warning Card to the wall in a visible location directly above or beside the workstation. (Tacks are included).
Marking the Cable All your probes to be soaked must be marked on the cable as follows: Place probe gently into one of the empty containers and insert the cable between front and back grip clips by depressing the tab. With tab depressed, slide the cable up till the tip of the probe is about 1,27cm above the bottom of the container. Release the tab and mark the cable with an indelible pen just above the front grip clip.

Using High Level Disinfectants with your GUS® Establishing Soaking Depth A full container holds one quart of disinfectant or water. The connection between the strain relief and the probe is not watertight. Be sure to fill the container to a point that is BELOW the strain relief.
Probe Placement To ensure the correct soaking depth, simply push in the tab, place the cable between the front and back grip clip and align the mark on the cable above the grip clip.
Soak and Rinse 1. Switch the system on using the ON/OFF switch located on the left side of unit. The red indicator will light when the unit is operating. 2. You are now ready to pour the high level disinfectant into the soaking containers. Be sure the soaking containers are in place and the unit is turned ON before filling the containers with high-level disinfectant. 3. Fill the center container with clean rinse water for the preliminary rinse. This eliminates dripping disinfectant between the unit and the sink. 4. The system is now ready for use. 5. If your GUS® is located next to your ultrasound machine, you do not need to disconnect the cable. If you need to disconnect the cable from the ultrasound machine, the electrical connector may be placed in the top padded compartment of the unit. 6. Place the probes in the soak containers (as shown above). 7. Soaking time is dependent on your own infection control practice; typically this is between 10 to 20 minutes. 8. To remove the probe from the soak container, push back on the blue plastic tab and slide the cable out, lift the probe up, shake it gently to remove the large drops and then place it directly into the rinse container. 9. Rinse off the probe by GENTLY swirling it around in the rinse container. The probe can now be removed and given a final rinse in the sink. 10. To prevent evaporation, when not in use, replace the screw caps on the containers.

Quick Trouble Shoot If your GUS® is not running, check the following: 1. Ensure that the unit is plugged into a live wall outlet. 2. Make sure the On/Off switch (located on left side) is on. 3. In the event that the system is still not working, check the fuse. The fuse is located on the left side of the unit above the power cord. UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE UNSCREWING FUSE COVER. 4. Unscrew the fuse cover and remove the fuse. If the filament is damaged, replace it with a Type FSF 5 x 20 mm 1 amp 250VAC. 5. If unit is still not working, call your local PCI medical inc. representative for assistance.
Repair and Modification This system contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not modify or attempt to repair it; contact your local dealer or PCI medical to purchase replacement filters and parts. Equipment damage can result from user attempts to repair or modify the system components. Before attempting to perform routine maintenance on the system, thoroughly review and understand this manual for complete familiarization with the system and its operation.
Filter Life GUS® has a patented filter that, in normal every day use will have a six-month life.
Filter Replacement 1. Turn the main power switch OFF and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet. 2. Remove the foam pad from the top compartment. 3. Remove the top plate located in the top compartment by turning the captive screws counterclockwise. 4. Remove the old filter by inserting fingers into the finger holes and pulling up. 5. Using a clean, lint-free cloth, wipe the filter compartment clean of any dust particles that may be present. 6. Replace with a new filter; making sure the airflow arrows are pointing to the rear of the machine. 7. Put the used filter into a plastic bag and dispose of it with other non-hazardous waste. This does not need to be red tagged.

8. Replace the top plate and tighten the captive screws by turning clockwise. Replace the foam pad.
Cleaning Turn the main power switch OFF and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet. Use a mild detergent solution such as dish washing liquid and water. Hard to clean spots may be cleaned with a mild solvent if extra care is taken.
Disposing of Used High Level Disinfectants PCI medical recommends the use of a deactivating agent when disposing of used high-level disinfectants. This eliminates the danger of fumes, splashes and spills. GLUTE-OUT II™ glycine based neutralizer (part # NG2) from PCI medical comes in a convenient two-ounce bottle. With unit running, open the bottle of neutralizer and slowly pour the contents into the containers of high-level disinfectants. After five minutes the disinfectant is deactivated and it is then safe to dispose of down the sink/drain. IMPORTANT: Thoroughly clean and rinse out the containers. With the unit turned on, put the clean soaking containers back into place and refill them with fresh high-level disinfectant.
Main Wiring Diagram A main wiring diagram is available upon request. PCI medical does not disclose detailed circuit diagrams. Spare parts and replacements are available upon request.
