Warnings and Precautions To avoid possible injury or death: • Read sensor and alarm instructions prior to use. • Never connect Posey sensors and/or magnets to other manufacturers’ alarm units. • Never connect other manufacturers’ sensors and/or magnets to Posey Alarm Units. • Always test the system per instructions prior to use. • Be sure all restraint straps do not cross over sensor pad! Restraint straps may prevent alarm activation if patient falls out of bed or chair. • This device should not be a substitute for maintaining the routine visual monitoring protocol by healthcare personnel. • The alarm may fail to sound if the pad is bent or folded.
BE SURE RESTRAINT STRAPS DO NOT CROSS OVER SENSOR PADS! RESTRAINT STRAPS MAY PREVENT ALARM ACTIVATION IF PATIENT FALLS OFF MATTRESS. WHEN USING A RESTRAINT, ALWAYS USE SIDE RAILS IN THE "UP" POSITION. THE PATIENT’S BODY OR LIMBS SHOULD NOT FIT OVER, UNDER, AROUND, THROUGH OR BETWEEN SIDERAILS.
Restrictive products should be used only as a last resort and after a full physical and cognitive assessment by an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Always use side rails that do not allow the patient’s body or limbs to fit over, under, around, through or between the siderails. The positioning of the sensor pad is especially important when using restraints. It is vital that the straps that secure the restraint to the movable part of the bed frame do NOT cross over the sensor pad. If the straps cross over the sensor pad and the patient/resident moves, the restraint straps can become taut over the sensor pad, applying pressure to the mattress and preventing activation of the alarm. If the patient/resident falls out of bed and becomes suspended off the floor by the restraint, they can asphyxiate and the alarm may not activate to alert nursing personnel. When restraints are used they should be secured to the movable part of the bed frame at waist level. The sensor pad should be placed at shoulder level so that the alarm will be activated if the patient sits up, tries to climb over the side rails, or scoots down to the bottom of the bed.

Before You Begin The Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call is an electronic monitoring system designed to help prevent falls in settings where continuous surveillance of admissions is not possible. Each system consists of a Sitter II control unit, wireless transmitter with AC power wall adapter, a pager, and a sensor pad. As weight is lifted off the sensor, as in an attempted bed/chair exit, the alarm is activated and a remote signal is sent to the pager to alert staff. The Sitter II Wireless system may also be connected to the facility nurse call system to activate the room light and nurse call station signal. In addition to providing an immediate warning of a potential fall, the Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call can be used as an assessment tool in determining the appropriate fall prevention protocol for a particular admission. Prior to using the Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call, each facility should create policies and procedures regarding its use. Some of the issues to be addressed are listed below. Indications (these may include): • Individual with diminished cognitive or mobility skills i.e., the frail, disabled, senile or those with neurological deficits. • Patients receiving medications which may cause disorientation, drowsiness, dizziness or frequent urination i.e., diuretics. • Any admission (new or existing) with a history of falling. • Individuals who are restless or prone to get up in the middle of the night i.e., the elderly, medicated, those with functional or cognitive deficits. • Patients requiring mandatory bed rest. Contraindications: The Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Alarm should never be used as a sole surveillance device for agitated, combative or suicidal admissions, or for those at extreme physical risk for a life-threatening fall. In these cases, the Posey Sitter II, along with more intensive fall prevention measures would be required. Response: Each facility should determine the appropriate protocol for responding to alarms. This protocol might include calling over the intercom, telling the individual to wait for assistance, and then sending staff immediately to the room. Be sure to put notification outside the patient room door to identify high fall risk patients. This will help alert the nursing staff to respond immediately when the pager is activated.

Nursing Surveillance: Each policy should address the frequency of visits by nursing staff to confirm the patient/resident is safe. In addition, these visits should include periodic verification that the Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Alarm is functioning properly, that the power indicator lights are on and that the low battery light is not flashing. The monitoring lights should not be hidden from view and monitored regularly.
Notes
To verify the Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Alarm is working properly: 1. Plug a Posey sensor into the control unit and place weight on the sensor. 2. Plug the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter into the alarm unit. 3. Plug the AC power adapter into the port labeled "POWER 7.5V DC" on the left side of the alarm unit. 4. Plug the other end of the adapter into a wall outlet. 5. Turn the alarm unit on and verify the green power light on the alarm unit and Wireless Nurse Call Adapter are lit. 6. Remove weight from the sensor and verify: A. Pager is activated and displays programmed message B. Audible control unit alarm is functioning NOTE: If the alarm or pager does not sound please refer to pages 2426 of this manual. 7. Ensure the facility nurse call interface, when used, is connected properly and activates when weight is removed from the sensor. To avoid possible injury or death: Do not use the Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call if the audible alarm does not sound or the pager is not activated upon bed exit. Verify system before each use. If the "Low Battery" indicator is flashing, plug the unit into the wall outlet using the enclosed AC power adapter to recharge the batteries.
The Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Alarm is an electronic device. If the unit is subjected to severe mechanical shock such as dropping the unit, or is submerged in liquid, the unit may stop functioning as designed. After each incident, you must verify that the unit is working properly as outlined above.

The Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter is a simple addition to your existing Sitter II fall monitor system. This non-invasive alarm notifies you, via pager, when a patient/resident attempts an unassisted bed or chair exit. This new wireless paging option identifies the exact patient/resident in need of assistance, reduces caregiver response time, and helps minimize facility noise. Each complete Posey Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Monitoring System comes with: • Sitter II with Accessories • Wireless Nurse Call Adapter (plugs into Sitter II) • AC adapter • Pager • Programming cable • Windows compatible software • Under mattress sensor Once the included software is installed on a Windows based PC the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter can be programmed with a custom/personalized message (i.e. Mrs. Jones Room 104 Needs Assistance) that is transmitted to the pager when a bed exit is attempted. The Posey Sitter II Sensor is placed on the bed frame, under the mattress, and detects the patient’s weight. When weight is removed from the sensor pad, the alarm is activated; the in-room audible alarm sounds and the transmitter sends a signal to the pager, notifying the caregiver that a patient/resident is at immediate risk of falling. The transmitter will continue to signal the pager until the Test/Reset button is pressed.

Connecting the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter to the Sitter II With the addition of the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter, the Sitter II quickly converts to a Wireless Nurse Call notification system. The wireless adapter is equipped with rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that lock into the Sitter II battery compartment. To Connect the Wireless Adapter to the Sitter II:

1. Make sure that the Sitter II unit POWER is OFF and batteries are removed. 2. Locate battery access cover at the side of the unit. Slide cover to the fully open position (Fig 1).

4. Carefully spread the housing apart near the battery cover until the cover is easily removed from the unit. Remove the cover and save for future use as required (Figs 3, 4, 5).

5. With the battery door removed, re-install the corner housing screw and tighten until snug. Do not over-tighten (Fig 6). Unit is now ready for use with the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter.

6. Orient the Sitter II so that the front of the unit is facing you and the battery compartment is on the left (Fig 7). 7. Orient the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter so that the antenna is pointing up and the batteries are pointed to the right (Fig 7). 8. Insert the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter into the Sitter II battery compartment (Fig 8). 9. The 1/4” plug on the Wireless Adapter will plug into the Sitter II nurse call receptacle (Fig 9). 10. You will hear the Wireless Adapter lock into place

Charging / Powering the Unit The Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter is equipped with rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries. These batteries are shipped without power and must be fully charged before powering the unit without AC power adapter plug in. However, you can charge the batteries and monitor your patient/resident simultaneously. To Charge the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter: 1. Connect the AC power adapter to the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter (Fig 10). 2. Plug the other end into the wall outlet (Fig 11) 3. The green power light will illuminate, indicating the unit is charging.

To Charge the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter While Monitoring: If you would like to monitor your patient/resident while charging the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call batteries: 1. Connect the sensor to the Sitter II (Fig 12). 2. Insert the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter into the Sitter II battery compartment (Fig 13). 3. Connect the AC power adapter to the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter. 4. Plug the other end into the wall outlet. 5. The green power light on the transmitter will illuminate, indicating the unit is charging and powering the Sitter II. 6. Press the HOLD button on the Sitter II (Fig 14) and refer to pages 14-23 of this manual for Sitter II programming. 7. The Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter MUST charge for 4 1/2 hours before powering itself and a Sitter II without AC power.

The software for programming the Posey Wireless Nurse Call Adapter is available in 31/2” floppy and CD format. The minimum requirements for running the software are: • Hardware: PC or laptop with an available serial port • Software: Windows ’98 or greater To access the software from a disk or CD 1. Insert the 31/2” floppy or CD into the appropriate drive and access that drive. 2. Double click on the Posey.exe icon to open the program. 3. When the program is open you will see (Fig 15)

Glossary of Programming Terms Name/Rm Num
Patient/resident name and/or room number the transmitter will be assigned to. This information is included in all messages from this transmitter Message/Primary Message The message transmitted to the primary caregiver and/ or the supervisor caregiver in the event of a bed/chair exit. Page on "Low Battery" When this option is checked/turned on, the transmitter will send a page to notify the caregiver that the batteries are low and need re-charging. You have the option of turning the low battery page off if a unit is taken out of service. "COM 1" or Communication The port ID # on the back of the computer. port This will almost always be set to COM1. Read Unit Reads the transmitter settings and displays them on the screen. Update Unit Stores the data into the transmitter’s memory. Serial # Unique number assigned to each transmitter. The serial numbers are pre-programmed into each transmitter before they are shipped to customer locations. F/W Identifies factory programming software Primary Pager Pager that is notified first when a transmission is sent. The number is located on the back of the pager. System ID System identification of the pagers. Pagers are preprogrammed to operate on system ID "4". Supervisor/Back-up Caregiver • On/Off • Turns this feature on and off • Pager • Supervisor/Back-up Pager number. This number is found on the back of the pager. • Message • The message transmitted to the supervisor pager Repages On/Off Turns the re-page feature on and off Re-page Count The number of times the transmitter will re-page the primary caregiver pager unless the unit is Reset. This is also the number at which the second caregiver is paged. Re-page interval The time that will elapse between re-paging. Minimum interval is 15 seconds. Maximum interval is 3 minutes. Test/Reset Page On When the "Test Rest" button on the front of the transmitter is pressed, a page acknowledge message is transmitted to the pager. This message is sent only if the box is checked.

Programming The Transmitter
Troubleshooting Guide if you have extra-heavy, water, pressure relief, low air loss or gel mattresses. You may need to use an over mattress sensor. • When the patient lies down they may not be making contact with the sensor to activate monitoring. Try a different position for the sensor pad. The most weight is generally under the buttocks. Chair Belt Sensor • Check that all connections are tight and properly plugged into the control unit. • Check the "DELAY" setting. Problem: Control unit alarms continuously, even with patient in bed. Solution: Chair Pad Sensor • Check to be sure the sensor pad us properly connected to the control unit. • Check the position of the pad to be sure it is directly under the patient’s weight. Position sensor towards the front for patients who normally sit towards the front, and towards the back for patients who require posture support or are at risk of forward sliding. • Check seating/positioning aids such as wheelchair foundation cushions or wedge cushions that may prevent sensor activation. Over/Under Mattress Sensors • Check to be sure the sensor pad us properly connected to the control unit. • The patient may not be heavy enough to activate the Sensor Pad. Try a different position/location for the Sensor Pad under the mattress – the most weight is generally under the buttocks region. There must be a minimum of 50 lbs. (22kg) of pressure directly over the sensor pad for activation. • A foam pad on top of the mattress may effectively diffuse the patient’s weight so it does not activate the sensor. Reposition the sensor pad above the mattress, under the foam pad. Use Posey Grip or the straps provided to prevent the sensors from slipping or changing position as the bed is raised or lowered. • Check the position of the sensor pad under the mattress to be sure it is directly under the patient’s weight. A very small individual or a restless sleeper may require more than one sensor. • The mattress may not be folding properly when it is raised or lowered. Some mattresses are very stiff, and do not lay flat when the head or foot of the bed is raised or lowered. A stiff mattress may actually form a pocket that prevents weight from touching the sensor on the bed frame. Thus, the Posey Sitter II alarm sounds constantly. Try repositioning the sensor, or using two sensors in different locations of the bed. • Under mattress sensor may not work with pressure relief or low air loss mattresses. You may need to use an over mattress sensor. Chair Belt Sensor • Check to be sure that the sensor is properly connected to the control unit. • Check the buckle to be sure it is securely fastened.
The Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter may be programmed to send a custom message such as "Mrs. Jones Room 104 Needs Assistance" to the pager. The message tells the caregiver exactly who needs assistance and helps shorten response time. The transmitter can repeat the transmission until the Test/Reset Button is pressed. The frequency for repeating the message may be programmed to meet individual resident and facility needs.
Programming the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call: Prepare the unit for programming: Note: The Wireless Nurse Call Adapter does NOT need to be connected to a Sitter II unit for programming. 1. Power up the Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call Adapter using the included AC adapter. Plug one end into the port on left side of the unit labeled “POWER 7.5V DC” (Fig 16). Plug the other end into the wall outlet (Fig 17). 2. If the Wireless Nurse Call Adapter is connected to the Sitter II unit you must connect a sensor and put the Sitter II on HOLD.(Fig 18, 19) 3. Connect one end of the programming cable to the back of the computer and tighten the locking screws (Fig 20). 4. Plug the other end of the cable into the Sitter II Wireless port labeled "PROG" (Fig 21). 5. Open the programming software application (Fig 22A). 6. Select the communication port; in most instances it will be "COM 1". 7. Click the "Read Unit" button at the bottom of the screen. The unit serial number and pre-programmed settings will be displayed on the screen. 8. If the computer does not "READ" the unit check the following • The programming cable is securely connected to the computer. • The programming cable is securely connected to the transmitter. • The unit has power. • Select a different communication port.

This number can be found on the back of the pager. (Fig 23) 18. Set System ID to "4". Unless otherwise specified, the System ID will always be 4. 19. Enter the primary message in the space provided. This message will be sent to the primary caregiver in the event of a bed/chair exit. Examples of messages are "Patient out of bed" or "Resident needs assistance". Note: Do not use a comma to separate information. The transmitter will disregard all information following a comma. 20. Supervisor/Back-up Caregiver Functions/Option A. Check the On/Off Box to turn on B. Enter the Supervisor / Back-up Pager Number. This number can be found on the back of the pager. (Fig 23) C. Enter Supervisor / Back-up Message in the space provided. Examples of a Supervisor message are "Page not answered" OR "Urgent". 21. Re-Page Functions/Option A. Check the On/Off Box to turn on B. Enter the Re-page count. This is the number of times the transmitter will re-page the primary caregiver pager if the unit is not Reset. C. Enter Re-page interval. This is the time between each transmitter re-page in minutes and seconds, mm:ss. 22. Check the "Page on Low Battery" box to turn on the Low Battery page 23. Troubleshooting Guide Problem: Pager flashes low battery indicator. Solution: You must first identify if the low battery indicator is for the pager or the transmitter. • If the message displayed is the transmitter identification message followed by "Low Battery", the transmitter batteries are low and need to be re-charged. • If the message is different from what is described above the pager battery needs to be changed. Problem: Patient bed exit messages are received on multiple pagers. Solution: You may have several pagers with the same Pager ID Number The factory default setting on all transmitters for the Secondary Pager is a 911 All Page. You can reprogram the transmitter to a specific Secondary Pager Number instead of the all page. Problem: Volume on control unit is too low or too loud. Solution: • Press the "SELECT" button until the volume level flashed. Press the arrow buttons up or down to adjust the volume to the desired level. Problem: Cannot change tone, mode, volume, or delay settings. Solution: • Press the "SELECT" button until the setting you want to change is flashing. Press the arrow keys, up or down, to adjust to the desired setting. Problem: Sensors slide around when the head of the bed is raised or lowered on beds with foam overlays. Solution: • Anchor the sensor(s) on top of the mattress, under the foam overlay, using the straps provided. Problem: In-room alarm activates, but nurse call station does not activate. Solution: • Check that all connections are tight and the nurse call cable is connected to the control unit and properly plugged into the facility’s nurse call system. The connections should snap tightly together. • Check for worn or damaged wires. • Verify that the proper adapter is used for the system. Problem: No alarm when patient exits bed or chair. Solution: Chair Pad Sensor • Check that all connections are tight and properly plugged into the control unit. • Check the sensor cord. Is the cord folded back under the sensor pad? Is the cord being stretched or stressed in any way? Is the monitor positioned close enough for easy connection to the sensor? • Check the "DELAY" setting. • Check seating/positioning aids such as wheelchair foundation cushions or wedge cushions that may prevent the unit from alarming. • When the patient sits down they may not be making contact with the sensor to activate the monitor. Try a different position for the sensor pad. Over/Under Mattress Sensors • Check that all connections are tight and properly plugged into the control unit. • Check the "DELAY" setting. • Check that there is no weight on the mattress such as a box, bag or book. • Check that the correct side of the bed sensor pad is "UP" under the mattress. • Mattress may be too heavy. The under mattress sensor may not work 25
Troubleshooting Guide Problem: Transmitter will not stop signaling the pager. Solution: Press the Test/Reset button on the transmitter to reset the unit and stop paging. Problem: The pager does not respond when the transmitter is activated. Solution: • Be sure the pager is powered ON. • Check if the pager battery needs changing. • The transmitter may be out of signaling range. Verify how the transmitter is programmed: • Do the transmitter system ID and pager System ID correspond. • Does the transmitter Primary Pager Number correspond to the Pager ID number. Problem: No green light on transmitter. Solution: The batteries need charging. Using the AC adapter, plug the unit into the wall outlet. Problem: The pager does not power on. Solution: Change the battery. Problem: The pager responds, but does not display the appropriate location identifier message when the transmitter is activated. Solution: The transmitter needs to be programmed with the current patient or room location information. Problem: Programming changes were not saved into the transmitter memory. Solution: • The transmitter must have power (battery charged or plugged into AC power) for programming. • The transmitter needs to be re-programmed to reflect the current information. Once all information is entered into the programming software you must click the "Update Unit" button to download the information to the transmitter. One the settings are stored you will receive a message confirming the unit has been updated. Problem: The units seems to be working fine but I keep getting a "Power Loss" message. Solution: A "Power Loss" message is a built in safety feature to alert care staff that the transmitter has been disconnected from the AC power. Simply press the Test/Reset button to reset the unit and stop paging. Problem: The Sitter II does not power ON. Solution: • If powered by alkaline batteries, insert four fresh C-cell batteries. • If powered by wireless transmitter check the following; - Be sure the transmitter is plugged into the Sitter II battery compartment and securely locks into place. - Batteries may need charging. Using the AC adapter, plug the unit into the wall outlet. Problem: The Sitter II red low battery light flashes. Solution: • If powered by alkaline batteries – Flashing light indicates low batteries. Replace with four (4) new C-cell alkaline batteries. • If powered by wireless transmitter - Although the Sitter II low battery light is flashing, the system has power and is functioning. When powered by the transmitter rechargeable batteries, the red low battery light is a reminder that the unit is running off the rechargeable batteries and is NOT connected to the AC power.

Receiving A Message The Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call transmits the pre-programmed message to a remote pager when weight is removed from the sensor and the system is activated; as in an unassisted bed exit. The pager (receiver) features an alphanumeric display, and adjustable alert (tone or vibrate) settings. Please refer to the pager instruction manual for additional pager functions and settings.

The Posey Sitter II has four different alarm modes that allow you to set the appropriate alarm signal for your facility and each patient/ resident. The LCD screen displays which mode is currently in use (See Fig. 24).
1. Identify a location that is out of the patient/resident’s reach, and will allow unobstructed view of the indicator lights. 2. Position the wall mounting bracket (Cat. No. 8208, See Fig. 37) with the flat side against the wall. 3. Using the wall-mounting bracket as a guide, mark the spots to insert the anchors into the wall. CAUTION: Be sure the selected mounting area is safe for drilling. 4. Drill holes where marked and insert anchors. 5. Position bracket over holes and insert screws. 6. Slide the alarm unit on the bracket from the top down until it locks into place. 7. To remove the alarm unit from the bracket, gently push in on the bracket release lever while sliding the alarm up (See Fig. 38).
VOICE & TONE Recorded message plays once, followed by the alarm tone. TONE Alarm tone only plays repeatedly. VOICE Requires Nurse Call Interface. Recorded voice message plays repeatedly, no tone. The alarm unit should be placed out of the patient/resident’s reach to prevent tampering. Always check mounting before each use, ensuring the alarm unit is securely positioned and functioning properly.

Attaching the Bed Mounting Bracket
Setting Alarm Tone
The Posey Sitter II is packaged with two separate mounting brackets (one for bed application and one for wall application). Both brackets are designed with a locking mechanism that secures the alarm unit in position and helps prevent lost inventory. For additional brackets, please call Posey Customer Service at 800-447-6739.
There are ten (10) available tones (4 tone patterns and 6 musical selections). This allows you to differentiate between residents/ patients as well as other equipment and alarms.
For Headboard/Footboard Attachment:
1. Use wire bed bracket (Cat. No. 8276), included in your package, for headboard/ footboard mounting (See Fig. 34). 2. Slide the alarm unit on the bracket from the top down until it locks into place (See Fig. 35). 3. Attach the bracket to the headboard or footboard by pulling the wire away from the alarm unit to create an opening wide enough to fit over the headboard/footboard. Slide the bracket onto the bed and push down to ensure a snug and secure fit. The indicator lights should be clearly visible to the caregiver. Note: The Sitter II comes with a standard size bed bracket that fits boards 1/2” - 2” thick. A large bed bracket that fits boards up to 3” thick is available upon request (Cat. No. 8277). 4. To remove the alarm unit from the bracket, gently push in on the bracket release lever while sliding the alarm unit up and out (See Fig. 36). Always check mounting before each use, ensuring the alarm unit is securely positioned and functioning properly. The indicator lights should be in plain view and monitored regularly. Sensor Pads
Adjusting Alarm Volume There are five (5) alarm volumes available. The decibel level of the alarm ranges from 80–103 and is dependent on the volume level and selected tone. This allows the caretaker to set alarm volume to suit facility and/or patient/resident’s needs. Where audibility may be difficult, use highest (loudest) volume setting. Always test alarm to make sure staff can hear the alarm sound before leaving the patient/resident alone. To Change Volume:
1. Press the SELECT button until the volume level blinks (See Fig. 26). 2. Press the arrows to change the volume. There are 5 volume settings to choose from.
Never place the unit closer than one foot from the ear. Do not reduce alarm volume if patient can travel out of hearing distance of staff by wheelchair or other means.

Place the sensor pad under the mattress, directly on top of the bed frame. Secure the pad to the bed frame using the hook and look straps or cable ties, depending on the style of bed. Connect the sensor pad to the alarm unit by plugging into one of the jacks labeled "Sensor". NOTE: There are two jacks labeled "Sensor 1" and "Sensor 2" (See Fig. 32). When using only one sensor pad, you may select either jack connection for normal operation. Suggested Positions for Sensor Pad Placement
A. For residents/patients at extremely high risk of falling (or SENSOR 2 when using restraints), position the sensor pad at the shoulder area (See Fig. 33) with a short time delay so that as the resident/patient sits up, the time delay circuit is activated. B. For wandering behavior, position the sensor pad under the resident’s buttocks (See Fig. 33) and set the time delay accordingly. Fig. 32 C.After a pattern of movement has been established, the position of the sensor and/or time delay setting may be adjusted. Multiple sensor pads may be Fig. 33 helpful in monitoring a very small or extremely restless sleeper who moves from the top to bottom of the bed. Depending on the patient’s needs, the Posey Sitter II may be used with up to two sensor pads. For those patients/residents requiring multiple sensor pads, it is recommended that one sensor pad be placed at the shoulder area and one be placed under the residents buttocks. Connect the sensor pads to the alarm unit by plugging each into one of the jack connections. NOTE: When multiple sensor pads are used the alarm will not activate until weight leaves all sensor pads. Weight must be placed on both sensor pads to reset the monitor. NEVER connect sensor pads that are monitoring different beds to the same control unit. One patient may fall out of bed, but because the other patient is still on the sensor, the alarm will not sound.

Connecting to Facility Nurse Call If desired, your new Posey Sitter II or Sitter II Wireless Nurse Call may be connected to a compatible nurse call system to provide additional notification to the caregiver. With nurse call interface, the unit alarm may be silenced in the patient’s room to permit roommate’s sleep or set so that a voice message plays instead of an alarm. To connect the Nurse Call:
1. Insert the nurse call cable into the receptacle labeled "Nurse Call" on the side of the monitor (See Fig. 30). If wireless nurse call is connected to Sitter II, insert the nurse call cable into the receptacle labeled "Nurse Call" on the side of the transmitter unit (See Fig. 31). 2. Plug the other end into the wall jack of the nurse call panel. A special adapter may be required. Please refer to pages 29-32 of this manual or contact Posey Customer Service at 800-447-6739 for details. NOTE: If the cable is disconnected from the Sitter II without Wireless Nurse Call while in the VOICE or MUTE modes, the alarm will automatically switch to VOICE & TONE. This safety feature is to ensure caregiver notification of resident/patient’s attempt to rise. NOTE: To utilize nurse call lights simultaneously, you may need to use a "Y" adapter (Cat. No. 8235S) to enable your system to accept both the Posey Sitter II and the nurse call system. "Y" adapters are available through the Posey Company. Please call Customer Service at 800-447-6739.
Setting a Time Delay A time delay of 0 – 10 seconds may be programmed. This time delay is the acceptable time interval that can elapse AFTER the patient/resident is off the sensor pad BEFORE the alarm is activated. Each time delay should be set according to each individual patient’s needs. The time delay should be long enough to allow movement in bed without setting off an alarm, yet still give sufficient warning to nursing personnel of an attempt to ambulate unassisted. To set a time delay: 1. Press the SELECT button until the delay time blinks (See Fig. 27). 2. Press the arrows up or down to change the time delay. The variable delay can be set from 0 to 10 seconds in one-second increments. NOTE: The Posey Sitter II resets automatically. That means if weight is removed from the sensor and reapplied BEFORE the full time delay has elapsed, the time delay will be reset for the full time interval and the unit will resume monitoring. If weight is removed from the sensor for the full time delay interval, the unit will alarm. When weight is reapplied to the sensor, the time delay will be reset for the full time interval, and the unit will resume monitoring.

Recording a Message
Setting The Unit On Hold
The voice feature of your new Posey Sitter II allows the caregiver or family member to record a personalized message of instruction that will "play back" to the patient/resident when the alarm is activated. This is ideal in situations where sounding an alarm may agitate residents or disturb roommates’ sleep, or in situations where English is not the resident’s native language.
The HOLD feature of your new Posey Sitter II allows the patient/ resident to be removed from bed for up to six hours (i.e. therapy, toileting, socializing) without the need for the alarm to be turned off. The alarm automatically reactivates when the patient returns to bed. This ensures continuity of care and monitoring despite multiple caregiver involvement.
NOTE: The maximum length of voice message that may be recorded is 10 seconds. Examples of messages might be: "Mom, remember you have broken your hip. Please wait for the nurse to help you." Or in Spanish "Mamá, recuerde que tiene la cader quebrada. Por favor espera que la enfermeda le ayuda."
NOTE: If the patient/resident is gone longer than six hours the alarm will sound. Either reset the alarm unit to HOLD or turn the power off if the patient will be away for longer periods.
To Record a Message:
1. Press the HOLD button (See Fig. 29) until the indicator light is flashing. 2. As soon as the unit is placed on HOLD you will have a 30-second interval where the unit will not respond to weight on the sensor. This is to prevent the unit from turning on and off while the patient makes his/her way to the edge of the bed or chair in preparation to ambulate. Each time the HOLD button is pressed, the 30-second interval resets and starts again. It is recommended that you position your patient towards the edge of the bed with his/her legs over the side before pressing the HOLD button. 3. At the end of the 30-second interval, if weight is present on the sensor, the unit will activate and begin monitoring.
1. Turn the unit on. 2. Press the “HOLD” button. 3. Press and Hold the RECORD button (See Fig. 28). 4. Wait for the beep to begin speaking. 5. Talk in a normal voice into the microphone aperture labeled "MIC" (See Fig. 28). Note: The volume at which you speak and your distance from the aperture determine the message volume. 6. The recording will stop when you release the button or when time expires, at which time you will hear a second beep. 7.
