Setup WARNING! The device is not protected against explosions. Explosion hazard. Do not operate this device in areas where there is a danger of explosion. CAUTION! Device failure may occur due to automatic overtemperature cut- out. As a result of insufficient cooling air supply, the overtemperature cut- out can be triggered and the device may switch off during use. Keep devices with forced cooling [e.g. fan] at least 15 cm from the wall and ensure that the louvers are open and uncovered at all times. To prevent heat accumulation in the closed system trolley, place devices accordingly and / or provide openings.
. NOTE!
As to the ingress of liquids, the intended use of this product defines its degree of protection as IP 20. To prevent liquid from being sucked in via the ventilation system, do not place any products or items from which liquids may leak, onto or above the light projector.
. NOTE!
Check that the mains/line voltage is the same as the voltage specified on the identification plate. Check the device only with the supplied power cable or a power cable meeting the same specifications.
. NOTE!
To achieve optimum light transmission, the glass fibre cross sections of the flexible light cable and endoscope must be the same. If a cable with excessive diameter is used, the coupling point with the endoscope can become excessively hot. If a cable with a very small diameter is used, the light efficiency will be reduced.
. IMPORTANT!
In combination with a camera with auto--shutter we recommend not to operate the light projector at maximum intensity. Select “Longlife” mode instead. This will reduce the thermal load on the coupling points and thus on the light cable and endoscope as well as possible damage to a minimum. Brightness control is effected by the camera. A higher nominal setting of the light projector should be selected only in the case of receding light output due to ageing or extreme illumination requirements.

Connecting light cables of other manufacturers The light projector is designed for the connection of Richard Wolf light cables. Light cables of other manufacturers can only be connected with suitable adapters.
. IMPORTANT!
As a result of a mismatch or low quality, light cables of other manufacturers may yield poor light efficiency. Because of the high light output the use of unsuitable light cable materials can result in a destroyed light cable.

Installing the halogen reflector lamp CAUTION! During operation the lamp is extremely hot. Do not touch the lamp. Danger of burns. Before changing the halogen reflector lamp, allow the light projector and lamp to cool down sufficiently. Z Switch off the power switch and disconnect the power plug. Z Turn the locking mechanism counter--clockwise to unlock the lamp insert and remove the lamp insert. Z Hold the halogen reflector lamp by the edge and then plug it into the lamp socket while keeping it perfectly aligned. ' Before plugging in the lamp ensure that the contact pins (A) of the lamp and nose (B) (if lamp has a nose, which depends on the manufacturer), are positioned correctly. ' Make sure you do not touch the bulb or mirror with your bare fingers, because fingerprints may be baked onto the lamp surfaces, causing severe light losses. Z Place the lamp insert onto guide rail (C) in the light projector, then push in and lock locking mechanism (3) by turning clockwise as far as it will go.

Checks
. IMPORTANT!
Run through the checks before each use.
4.1
Visual check Z Carry out the following checks: ' Check device and accessories for damage, cleanliness and completeness. ' Check power cable for damage. ' Check that the lettering/labeling is complete and easily legible.
4.2
Function check
4.2.1
Device function after switching on CAUTION! Danger of dazzling. Do not look into the light cable connection socket. Z Switch on the device by s witching on the power switch. ' The power switch must be lit. ' The halogen reflector lamp must be lit. Z Press the “Longlife” button. ' The brightness of the halogen reflector lamp is reduced.
On light projectors 2.42150.001 from serial no. 400 and light projectors 2.42150.006 from serial no. 200, carry out the following function checks: Z Switch on the power/mains switch of the device. ' The LED on the power switch must be lit. ' The halogen reflector lamp must be lit. ' The button illumination of the ”longlife” mode must be lit. Z Push the ”longlife” button. ' The brightness of the halogen reflector lamp increases to full output. ' The illumination of the button goes out.

Use
5.1
Operation The light projector supplies high--energy light which is guided to an endoscope via a light cable. Independent of the brightness setting, the color temperature of the halogen reflector lamp is approx. 3500 K and approx. 3000 K in the ”Longlife” mode. A softstart is integrated to protect the lamp.
5.2
Controls and modes
5.2.1
”Longlife” mode In ”Longlife” mode the brightness of the halogen reflector lamp is reduced, which prolongs the lamp’s service life and allows a choice of two brightness settings.
5.2.2
Overload cutout for lamp circuit The overload cutout prevents a blowing of the device fuses (melting fuses) should a short circuit in the lamp circuit occur. After replacing the defective halogen reflector lamp and pressing of the reset button of the overload cut--out on the rear panel, the light projector is operative again.
5.3
Temperature protection circuit Covered vent slots, a defect fan or a lack of air circulation can cause an increased temperatures inside the light projector. A temperature protection circuit monitors the temperature inside the device. If necessary, the light projector is switched off to prevent further damage.

5.4
Operation of the light projector WARNING! Fire hazard. Do not place the light exit area of the light guide or endoscope onto heat absorbing surfaces (dark drapes, etc.) as this can cause excessively high temperatures or even ignition. If you do not need the light for a period of time, switch off the device.
. IMPORTANT!
This device is not protected against the ingress of dust. In very dusty environments the light output can be reduced. In particular in the case of metal dust, there is the risk of premature device failure.
5.4.1
Switching the halogen reflector lamp ”on and off” CAUTION! Danger of dazzling. Do not look into the light cable socket. Z Switch on the light projector with the power switch. ' The halogen reflector lamp is lit. Z Switching off the halogen reflector lamp. ' Switch off halogen reflector lamp with the power switch.
5.4.2
Selecting ”Longlife” mode Z Press the ”Longlife” button. ' The brightness of the halogen reflector lamp is reduced and the button is lit. Z Pressing the button again deactivates ”Longlife” mode. ' The brightness of the halogen reflector lamp is increased and the button is no longer illuminated.
. NOTE !
For light projectors 2.42150.001 from serial no. 400 and light projectors 2.42150.006 from serial no. 200, please observe the following: When switching the device on, the default setting is longlife mode which is signalled by the key illumination. Z Pushing the ”Longlife” button switches off the ”Longlife” mode. ' The brightness of the halogen reflector lamp increases while the button illumination goes out.

. IMPORTANT!
Make sure that no humidity enters the device. Do not use any cleaning agents, scouring agents or solvents on this device!
6.2
Maintenance
. IMPORTANT!
In your inquiries or correspondence please always indicate the model and serial number on the identification plate. Further documentation is available from the manufacturer upon request.
6.2.1
Maintenance intervals
. IMPORTANT!
To prevent incidents caused by ageing and wear, the device and its accessories must be serviced at adequate intervals. Depending on the frequency of use, however at least once a year, an expert must check the device and carry out a safety test.
