This manual must be given to the user of this cushioning product.
USER: Before using this cushioning product, read this entire manual and save for future reference.
Congratulations! You now own a ROHO cushioning product designed and manufactured so you can achieve the highest possible level of performance and personal satisfaction. By carefully reading this owner's manual, you will learn how you can maximize the many benefits your DRY FLOATATION® product can provide. ROHO® DRY FLOATATION technology is based on the scientific principle that pressures exerted on an object floating in water are evenly distributed, with no peak pressures impacting any part of the object. ROHO DRY FLOATATION products simulate this principle of floating in fluid. ROHO's system of soft, flexible and interconnected air cells distributes the body's weight and relieves peak pressures on the bony parts of the body, just as if the body were floating in water. ROHO DRY FLOATATION products conform to the shape of the body, enhancing blood flow and transfer of vital oxygen and nutrients to the soft tissue to prevent pressure sores. Over the years, The ROHO Group has earned a reputation for producing the highest quality and best performing wheelchair cushioning products available. If you have any questions regarding your special needs or regarding any ROHO products, please call us toll-free in the U.S.A. at (800) 851-3449 or outside the U.S.A. call (618) 277-9150. With proper care you will have years of proven performance, assisting you in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sincerely, Robert H. Graebe Founder and Inventor

THE CONCEPT BEHIND YOUR DRY FLOATATION® PRODUCT
English
The objective of the adjustment procedure is to "immerse" the user as deeply as possible in the cushion without bottoming out. Deep immersion is achieved by having as little internal air pressure in the cushion as possible without allowing any part of the body, especially the bony prominences, to touch the base of the cushion. Proper adjustment or verification of the air pressure can only be done while the user is sitting in the cushion. Place your fingertips between the person and the cushion as a gauge for determining the appropriate immersion depth. The procedures on the following pages will give you a step-by-step method for adjusting your ROHO DRY FLOATATION product. NOTE: Your DRY FLOATATION product is most effective when properly adjusted. Protect it from pins and other sharp objects and exposure to hot cigarette ashes. WARNING: According to United States Coast Guard, ROHO DRY FLOATATION products should not be used as water flotation devices. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS If you have purchased one of the following products please read before proceeding to the adjustment instructions section. • Multi-Compartment Cushions (HIGH PROFILE® DUAL, LOW PROFILE® DUAL, Recliner, Specials or Wedge): Other compartments may be adjusted for comfort or positioning needs only after adjusting the cushion to the lowest bony prominence.
• Dual Compartment HIGH PROFILE or LOW PROFILE cushions: To maximize the positioning benefits for individuals with a pelvic obliquity, the side with the deepest bony prominence must be adjusted first. Dual compartments may be used for side-to-side or front-to-back positioning. For those who sacral sit and use front-to-back positioning, adjust the rear section first. • Wedge Cushion: To adjust, start with the rear section first and move forward. • Wheelchair Recliner: Adjust seat cushion first. • MINI-MAX® Cushion: Follow the adjustment instructions. Because of this cushion's cell height, [11/2 " (3.2 cm)], air will release rapidly. The stem should be pinched while releasing air. After immersion check ischial tuberosities and trochanter to ensure the individual has not bottomed out. • Lumbar and Sacral Support Cushions: Attach these cushions to the back of the chair by releasing the Velcro® strap. Fit to the individual's lumbar/sacrum and loop Velcro strap through ring and attach. Then follow adjustment procedures. • Toilet Seat Cushion: Each section is designed to follow the contour of the toilet seat. Place each cushion section on the toilet seat to suit individual needs and snap in place. • Commode Cushion: Place on seat with valve toward the front. • Cushions on Contoured Surfaces (Scooter, etc.): After adjusting ensure that no body part has bottomed out. • Saddle Cushions (Western and English Styles): Western style cushions are secured with a Velcro strap fitted over the cantle of the saddle. Both Western and English styles are tied down at the grommets by the leather straps on the saddle. Special Recommendation The ROHO Group recommends the use of a Solid Seat Insert or Contour Base for optimum cushion performance and to combat the effects of a sling seat. These items are available from your nearest ROHO distributor or Rehabilitation Technology Supplier.

ADJUSTING YOUR DRY FLOATATION® CUSHION To get the maximum therapeutic benefit and comfort from your new ROHO DRY FLOATATION cushioning product, follow these easy steps.
STEP 1 Turn cushion valve counter-clockwise to open.
STEP 2 Place hand pump hose over valve and inflate until cushion arches slightly.
STEP 3 Remove pump hose from valve and turn valve clockwise to close.
STEP 4 With cushion in this over-inflated condition, place the individual on the cushion in his/her normal sitting position with arm and foot rests properly placed.
STEP 5 Place your hand between cushion and the individual's deepest penetrating bony prominence.
STEP 6 With your hand in place, slowly turn valve counter-clockwise to release some air to immerse the individual in the cushion. When you can barely move your finger tips (approximately 1/2" or 1.25 cm) between the individuals deepest prominence and the cushion base, pinch valve stem and turn valve clockwise to close.
10
CAUTION: DO NOT IMPROPERLY INFLATE! If any part of the individual is touching the cushion base, too much air has been released and the therapeutic value of the cushion will be lost. To remedy, repeat the entire procedure. Important Note: Be sure to check the cushion daily to ensure that you have not "improperly inflated", and the cushion is properly adjusted.
COVERS AND CLEANING Covering your DRY FLOATATION Product A ROHO Cover is included with every standard cushion to help with protecting the cushion surface, keeping the cushion cells from protruding beyond the wheelchair seat and aiding in slide transfers. Because the bottom of the cover is made of special non-skid material, the cushion does not move in the chair. To cover your cushion, follow these simple instructions: 1. Unfold the cover, black mesh non-skid material facing upward and zipper facing you. 2. Insert your ROHO DRY FLOATATION cushion into the cover with the air cells down. 3. Gently pull the grommeted corner of your cushion through an opening at the corner of the cover until the metal grommet is exposed. Repeat this procedure until all four grommets are exposed. (Be careful when pulling the valve stem and rope handle through the opening.) 4. Carefully, close the zipper; turn the cushion over and your ROHO DRY FLOATATION cushion is ready to use. If properly fitted, the cushion will sit flat on the chair (black non-skid material on bottom) with all cells covered and all four grommets showing. Cleaning and Disinfecting Your DRY FLOATATION Product Cleaning and disinfecting are two seperate processes. Cleaning must precede disinfection. To clean, deflate cushions, close valves and place in large sink. Use a soft plastic bristle brush, sponge or washcloth to gently scrub air cells and spaces between. ROHO suggests using a liquid dishwashing or laundry detergent or other general-purpose cleaning product. For institutional cleaning, a general housekeeping disinfectant cleaner may be used. To clean the cover, machine wash in cold in the same detergents acceptable for cleaning the cushion. To disinfect, use a germicidal product that meets infection control needs. ROHO suggests a disinfectant with tuberculocidal properties. Note: Unless there is an infection or open wound only periodic cleaning is necessary. For home disinfection, use solutions of 1/2 cup liquid household bleach per quart of water (125 ml bleach to 1 liter of water). Keep the clean cushion wet with bleach solution for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, and dry. For institutional cleaning, most germicidal disinfectants are safe if used following the manufacturer's dilution directions. Sterilization: ROHO highly discourages sterilization methods using temperatures greater than 200˚ F / 93˚ C. High temperatures accelerate aging and may cause damage to the cushion assembly. If institution protocol demands sterilization, open the valves and use the lowest temperature possible for the shortest time possible. Gas sterilization is preferable to steam autoclave, but neither are highly recommended. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED LOTIONS, LANOLIN, OR PHENOLIC-BASED DISINFECTANTS ON YOUR CUSHION AS THEY MAY COMPROMISE THE INTEGRITY OF THE RUBBER.

REPAIRING LEAKS 1. Place your cushion cells down and over-inflate until all four corners touch. 2. Immerse the over-inflated cushion in water to locate the leak. 3. Once the leak has been located, mark the leak by inserting a toothpick into the hole. 4. Allow the cushion to dry thoroughly. 5. Clean the area around the hole with the alcohol wipe provided. Let surface dry. 6. Peel backing from patch provided, center the patch, and place it over the hole. 7. Press the patch down firmly until a good seal is achieved. 8. The cushion is ready for use. Adjust the cushion to proper inflation following adjustment instructions. Although patches do not change the performance of the cushion, they should be monitored periodically to ensure effectiveness in addressing the leak. If your patch is not successful in addressing the problem, or if more extensive damage is present, please contact your local dealer, or The ROHO Group directly for factory repair details. The ROHO Group reserves the sole right to determine whether a cushion is repairable.
FACTORY REPAIRS AND LOANER CUSHION PROGRAM If you cannot successfully repair your cushion, or if severe damage has occurred, you can return the cushion to the factory for repair.
