1. Congratulations! English
In the seca 757 electronic baby scale, you have purchased a high-precision yet sturdy piece of equipment. seca has been putting its experience at the service of health for over 150 years now, and as market leader in many countries of the world, is always setting new standards with its innovative developments for weighing and measuring. In accordance with national regulations, the seca 757 electronic baby scale is used primarily in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and in-patient nursing facilities.
It serves both to establish birth weight and to check weight gain during the growth process. Its maximum capacity is 15 kg, the display has a resolution of 5 g. A particular feature of this scale is the serial interface for transmitting data to a computer. In addition, the scale has a HOLD function to store the weight determined and a TARE function so that additional weights such as cloths or pads are ignored for weighing. The scale has Class III approval.
2. Safety Before using the new scale, please take a little time to read the following safety instructions. • Follow the safety instructions in the in• Do not drop the scale or subject it to vistruction manual. olent shocks. • When using the scale with a mains unit, • Have repairs carried out exclusively by ensure that the supply cable is routed in authorised persons. such a way as to exclude any type of • Have scale serviced and re-calibrated tripping hazard. on a regular basis (see “Servicing/recal• Use only the mains unit supplied. ibration” on page 19).
3. Removing transport securing device – Turn over the scale so that the baseplate faces upwards. – Unscrew both screws out of the base of the scale and take off the transport securing device. – Turn the scale back up the right way.

Connecting the mains unit The scale is powered by a mains unit and by rechargeable batteries. The connection socket for the mains unit is in the base of the scale. Please use only the mains unit supplied or mains units from the seca range of accessories. Before plugging the unit into the socket, check whether the mains voltage marked on the mains unit matches local mains voltage. – Turn over the scale so that the basescale from plate faces upwards. underneath – Plug the latching plug of the mains unit into the connection socket in the base of the scale. – Then turn the scale the right way up. – Connect the mains unit to a power socket. plug-in mains unit
Connecting the rechargeable battery pack Note: to weigh independently of the mains, the set of storage batteries must be installed an charged for 24 hours before the first use by plugging the power pack into the scales. – Carefully turn over the scale so that the base of the scale is accessible. – Push the battery compartment closure towards “Battery” and open the cover. – Connect the plug contacts to the rechargeable battery pack located in the battery compartment. – Close the cover and then turn the scale back up the right way.

Correct weighing – Press the green ON key. se(A, 88:88:8 and 0.000 appear consecutively in the display. The scale is then automatically set to zero and ready to use. – Place the baby on the scale. – Read the weighing result off the digital display. – If a load greater than 15 kg is placed on the scale, St0P appears in the display. The display has a resolution of 5 g.
Automatic switch-off/economy mode The scale automatically detects whether it is being operated on rechargeable batteries alone or whether it is connected to the mains. – With rechargeable battery operation: automatic shut-down after 1 minute. – With mains operation: automatic shut-down after 10 minutes.
Taring weight display (NET) The tare function is useful if an additional weight (such as cloths or a pad on the weighing surface) are to be ignored in the weighing result. Proceed as follows: – Place the additional weight on the scale and keep the NET depressed for some time. The “Net” indicator comes on. – Wait until the display stops flashing and shows 0.000. – You can now perform as many weighing operations as you like with this additional weight. – If - - - - appears in the display when the Tare indicator is on, the tare weight has been reduced. Pressing the Tare button returns the display to 0.000. When the scales are completely unladen, the tare facility is automatically re-set. 0.000 appears and the Tareindicator goes out. Important! The maximum weight which can be displayed is reduced by the weight of the objects already placed on the scale.

Store weight value (HOLD) You can also continue displaying the weight determined once the load has been removed. This makes it possible to put the baby down safely again before noting the weight: – Press the HOLD key whilst the load is on the scale. The HOLD indicator flashes. The value is stored until the scale switches off automatically. – The HOLD function can be switched off by pressing the HOLD key again. This frozen display is a supplementary device which does not have to be calibrated. 0.0 appears in the display if the scale has no load on it, otherwise the current weight. The “HOLD” display vanishes. Movements are damped by a special damping system. However, if the baby should move about on the scale too much, the HOLD function is not activated and the value displayed flashes. This prevents inaccurate measurements.
6. Cleaning Clean the tray and the housing as required with a domestic cleaning agent or commerciallyavailable disinfectant. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Under no circumstances use abrasive or acid cleaners, white spirit, benzene or the like for cleaning. Such substances can damage the high-quality surfaces and the printing.
7. Transport Before transporting the baby scale any distance, you should attach the transport securing device. This protects the highly-accurate electronics. Proceed as follows: – Turn over the scale so that the base2. plate faces upwards. 2. 1. – Attach the transport securing device and push the spacers between the frame and the tray support. 1. – Tighten up the screws on the base of the scale. Warning! Only tighten up the screws by hand, do not use a tool! – Turn the scale back up the right way.

Remove the transport securing device (see “Removing transport securing device” on page 14). – Scale has been loaded well beyond the permitted weighing range (see “Correct weighing” on page 17). – A fault has occurred in the electronics. Inform the Service Department.
9. Servicing/recalibration Have the scale recalibrated by authorised persons in accordance with national legal requirements. The year of initial calibration can be found behind the CE symbol on the rating plate above the number of the appointed office, 0109 (Hessen Weights & Measures Office).
