1. Congratulations! English
In the seca 717A electronic baby scale you have acquired a highly-accurate yet simultaneously sturdy piece of equipment. seca has been putting its experience at the service of health for over 150 years now, and as market leader in many countries of the world, is always setting new standards with its innovative developments for weighing and measuring. The seca 717A electronic baby scale is designed for use in a doctor’s surgery or hospital. It serves both to determine
weight at birth and to check weight gained during growth. Its maximum capacity is 15 kg, the display has a resolution of 5 g. A special feature of this scale is that you can switch between two weighing ranges. Resolution in the lower weighing range is 2 g. In addition, the scale has a HOLD function to store the weight determined and a TARE function so that additional weights such as cloths or pads are ignored for weighing. The scale has Class 3 CE approval.
2. Safety Before using the new scale, please take a little time to read the following safety instructions. • Follow the safety instructions in the in• Have repairs carried out exclusively by struction manual. authorised persons. • Use only the mains unit supplied. • Have scale serviced and re-calibrated on a regular basis (see chapter entitled • Do not drop the scale or subject it to “Servicing/recalibration“ on Page 19). violent shocks.
3. Removing transport securing device – Turn over the scale so that the baseplate faces upwards. – Unscrew both screws out of the base of the scale and take off the transport securing device. – Turn the scale back up the right way.

4. Power supply The scale is powered by a mains unit. The connection socket for the mains unit is in the base of the scale. Please use only the mains unit supplied or mains units from the seca range of accessories. Before plugging the unit into the socket, check whether the mains voltage marked on the mains unit matches local mains voltage. – Turn over the scale so that the basePlug-in mains unit plate faces upwards. – Connect the latching plug of the mains unit to the connection socket in the base of the scale. – Then turn the scale the right way up. – Connect the mains unit to a mains socket. How to weigh correctly – Press the green ON key.
SE(A, 18:88:8 and 0.000 appear consecutively in the display. The scale is then automatically set to zero and ready for use. – Place the baby on the scale. – Read the weighing result off the digital display. The display has a resolution of 5 g. In the weighing range up to 6 kg, you can switch to a resolution of 2 g.
Switching weighing ranges When the scale is switched on, it automatically uses the weighing range up to 15 kg. If the baby weighs less than 6 kg, you can switch weighing ranges and have a resolution of 2 g. – Press the 5g/2g key to change weighing range.
When the weighing range up to 6 kg with a resolution of 2 g is switched on, the 2g display lights up.
16
Automatic switch-off/energy-saving mode If no load is placed on the scale for 10 minutes, it switches off automatically.
Exceeding the weighing range – If a load of over 15 kg is placed on the scale, or in weighing range 2, a load of over 6 kg, St0P appears in the display.
Taring weight display (TARE) The tare function is useful if an additional weight (such as cloths or a pad on the weighing surface) are to be ignored in the weighing result. Proceed as follows: Important! The maximum initial load is up to 3 kg, or up to 1.2 kg in the weighing range to 6 kg. If a measuring rod is attached, ensure that maximum initial load is reduced by 400 g. – Place the additional weight on the scale. – Press the green ON key.
SECA, 18:88:8 and 0.000 appear consecutively in the display. The scale is then automatically set to zero and ready for use. You can now perform as many weighing operations as you like with this additional weight. The Tare function can be reactivated at any time with a changed load or without any additional load at all. – Place the new additional weight on the scale and press the ON key.
If ---- appears in the display, the additional weight has probably been removed. In this case, press the ON key.

Storing the weight value (HOLD) You can also continue displaying the weight determined once the load has been removed. This makes it possible to put the baby down safely again before noting the weight. – Press the HOLD key whilst the load is on the scale. The HOLD indicator flashes. The value is stored in the display until the scale switches off automatically after 10 minutes. – The HOLD function can be switched off by pressing the HOLD key again. 0.00 appears in the display with no load on the scale or the current weight. The “HOLD“ display disappears. Movements are damped by a special damping system. However, if the baby should move about on the scale too much, the HOLD function is not activated and the value displayed flashes. This prevents inaccurate measurements.
7. Cleaning Clean the tray and the housing as required with a domestic cleaning agent or commerciallyavailable disinfectant. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Transport Before transporting the baby scale any distance, you should attach the transport securing device. This protects the highly-accurate electronics. Proceed as follows: – Turn the scale over so that the base2. plate is on top. 1. 2. – Attach the transport securing device and push the spacers between the frame and the tray support. – Tighten up the screws on the base of the scale. 1. Warning! Only tighten up the screws by hand, do not use a tool! – Then turn the scale back up the right way.

Press the HOLD key again. ... one segment is illuminated permanently or not at all? – That point has a fault. Inform your service agent. ... St0P appears in the display? – Maximum capacity has been exceeded - remove load from scale. – Switch to the weighing range up to 15 kg if necessary. ... EEEEE appears in the display? – Has the scale been started with the transport securing device in place? Remove the transport securing device (see section entitled “Removing transport securing device“ on Page 14). – A load far exceeding the permissible weighing range has been placed on the scale (see also “Exceeding the weighing range“ on Page 17). – A fault has occurred in the electronics. Inform your service agent.
10. Servicing/recalibration Have the scale recalibrated by authorised persons in accordance with national legal requirements. The year of initial calibration can be found behind the CE symbol on the rating plate above the number of the appointed office, 0109 (Hessen Weights & Measures Office).
