1. Congratulations! English
In the seca 434/435 supplementary display, you have acquired a highly accurate piece of equipment which meaningfully expands the functions of compatible scales such as the seca 984/985 bed scale. seca has been putting its experience at the service of health for over 150 years now, and as market leader in many countries of the world, is always setting new standards with its innovative developments for weighing and measuring. In accordance with national regulations, the seca 434/435 supplementary display is used mainly in hospitals and dialysis centres. The seca 434/435 supplementary display is quick and easy to install. The seca 434/435 allows you to display weight values in different units simultaneously or to show different values such as patient weight, differential weight and limit value.
Just like the main display, this weight display can be switched between kilogrammes (kg) and pounds (lbs). The seca 434/435 display has the same key functions as the scale and has other useful functions which can be accessed via the separate control keyboard located in the drawer. The supplementary display has a limit value function which works with upper and lower limit values. If you want to put something (e.g. a pillow or a book) on the bed to be weighed whilst a weighing operation is in progress without it affecting patient weight, you can use the ”Pause” function. The weight which has been added is automatically taken into account and then deducted from the patient weight. It is also possible to store up to seven different displays. A special property of this supplementary display is its serial interface which allows weight values to be read into a PC.
2. Safety Before using the supplementary display, please take a little time to read the following safety instructions. • Follow the instructions in the instruc• Ensure that the connecting cable is not tions for use. crushed and does not come into contact with hot objects. • Keep the operating instructions and the declaration of conformity in a safe • Have repairs carried out only by authorplace. ised persons. • Do not drop the display housing or subject it to violent shocks.

Supplementary controls in the drawer under the display:
Pause On: weighing is interrupted. All weight changes which occur up to the point when ”Pause Off” is pressed are ignored for continued measuring. PAUSE appears in the display. Pause Off: weighing is resumed. Call Up Pause Memory: as long as this key is kept depressed, the weight stored in the Tare memory is displayed. Call Up Limit Value: if the limit value function is operational (centre indicator arrow is visible), the set limit value is displayed as long as this key is kept depressed. Store Display: this key activates the storage function for 5 seconds (top indicator arrow visible). The current display is stored by pressing one of display memory keys ”A” to ”G”. Call Up Display Memory: as long as one of keys ”A” to ”G” is pressed (without ”Store Display” being pressed first) the associated memory appears in the display. General displays In terms of general key functions, the seca 434/435 supplementary display works in the way with which you are familiar from the main display. If necessary, look at the operating instructions for the scale.
Limit value function The seca 434/435 supplementary display has a limit value function which generates an acoustic alarm when the display value exceeds or fails to reach a value which can be set. You can work with the limit value function in two ways: • With just an upper limit value. In the second display, patient weight has not been tared off and the seca 434/435 generates an acoustic alarm when the displayed value exceeds the set limit value. • With a symmetrical limit value. Patient weight has been tared off in the second display and the seca 434/435 generates an acoustic alarm when the displayed value exceeds the set limit value or fails to reach its negative value. Proceed as follows: – If you would like to work with an upper and a lower limit value, tare off patient weight in the second display. – Press the FUNC key to set the required limit value. In the display, you see the last limit value set. – The arrow indicators now illuminate alternately and you can change the value using the arrow keys. Note: After a few seconds with no input, the arrow indicators stop flashing and the display reverts to normal mode without activating the limit value function. In this case, you will have to start input from the beginning again. – When the right value is set, press the FUNC key again. The limit value function and the alarm are now activated. The arrow indicator points to the symbol for limit value function. – You can test the limit value function by lifting the bed so that the measured value fails to reach the set threshold. The alarm sounds. If you release the bed again, the alarm goes silent. – In order to switch off the limit value function, press the FUNC key again.
18
The arrow indicator for limit value function goes out. – To display patient weight again, keep HOLD/TARE depressed to deactivate the Tare function. Important note: if the scale has been switched off, the limit value function must be reactivated as described above. Tip! If you want to work with different top and bottom limit values, enter the bottom limit value in the scale display (e.g. seca 984/985) and enter the top limit value in the second (seca 434/435) display. In this case, do not tare off patient weight.
The PAUSE function The PAUSE function is intended to compensate for weight changes which are not due to the patient (e.g. book, dialysis tubes or ventilation mask), with the additional weight being stored in the Pause memory. – The display shows the current weight value. Press the PAUSE ON key. The display flashes until the weight is detected as being stable and PAUSE appears in the display. – Now place the object on the bed. – Press the PAUSE OFF key. The current weight value is checked for stability. PAUSE goes out in the display and patient weight is shown again. – By pressing the Pause memory key, you can display the contents of the Pause memory. It contains the total of all weights tared away by Pause or Tare. The value stored in the Pause memory is erased when the scale is switched off.

Store weight values The seca 434/435 supplementary display gives you the option of storing up to seven different weight values. – The display shows the display value to be stored. Press the Store key and then within 5 seconds, a key A to G for the desired memory. If the display value is still fluctuating during storing, the display flashes. The current value is then stored once the display value has been constant for a sufficient time. – In order to call up the stored weight value, press the relevant key A to G. The stored value is shown until the key is released.
Connecting to a PC The seca 434/435 supplementary display has a serial interface on the rear which allows weight values to be read into a PC. The interface cable required is available as an accessory. – Connect your PC to the RS 232 interface on the rear of the display housing using the interface cable. RS 232 interface
You can obtain detailed information from seca Customer Service.
5. Cleaning Clean the display housing as required using a domestic cleaning agent or commerciallyavailable disinfectant. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. 6. What do I do if… … there is nothing in the display? – Is the scale switched on? – Is the plug contact on the scale properly connected? – Is the supplementary display correctly connected? … the display flashes? – You have just activated a function (Tare, Hold, Pause function) which requires equilibrium to work. The display stops flashing as soon as this is achieved. … one segment is permanently illuminated or is not illuminated at all? – The relevant segment is faulty. Inform Servicing.
