Bed System PART NUMBER SCS1001 Monitors patient’s movement from a bed. Panel is placed beneath a mattress and connects to control unit which triggers an audio and visual alarm when bed is vacated. Components: A stainless steel pressure sensing bed panel and a control unit.
Chair System PART NUMBER SCS1002 Monitors patient’s movement from a chair. Panel is placed beneath chair cushion and connects to control unit which triggers an audio and visual alarm when chair is vacated. Components: A stainless steel pressure sensing chair panel and a control unit.
Dual System PART NUMBER SCS1003 Monitors patient’s movement from a chair or bed. Panel is placed beneath mattress or chair cushion and connects to the control unit which triggers an audio and visual alarm when bed or chair is vacated. Components: A stainless steel pressure sensing chair panel and a stainless steel pressure sensing bed panel and a control unit.
Multiple Zone Paging System PART Multiple Zone Paging Monitors multiple beds/chairs simultaneously. A signal is sent to the pagers to inform the carer which bed or chair is being vacated. Components: A base station that signals a message to 1 alpha numeric pager. Includes a boot and strap for pager (Holders which attach pager to clothing).

Bed System
Bed Sensor panel-positioning 1 Position the bed sensor panel under the mattress as illustrated - label side up.
2 The sensor panel should be placed widthways on the single non moveable part of bed base.
3 (For beds with a fixed base the sensor panel can be positioned lengthwise).
4 Check that the cable to the control unit does not become trapped or damaged.
5 Any excess cable should be coiled and stored under the mattress.
See below for connection to the control unit.
Chair System
Chair Sensor panel-positioning 1 The chair sensor panel should be placed either under a loose seat cushion (see picture) or if the chair has an integral seat it should be placed under a separate cushion (eg a pressure relieving cushion).
2 The sensor panel should be placed centrally and widthways.

Connection to the Control Unit 1 Insert the cable(s) from the bed
and/or chair sensor(s) in to the colour coded input sockets on the control unit. Do not use the green socket – this is for a nurse call interface (contact SensorCare for See ‘Push-Pull’ more information). The arrow on note* the grey connector needs to be aligned with the white arrow on the input socket and the two will snap together.
2 Position the control unit somewhere on the bed or chair frame using the spring loaded hooks. Preferably out of reach of the patient.
3 The patient should be settled on the bed or chair before the control unit is switched on.
4 Press the green ‘ON’ button – a loud bleep will tell you
the unit has detected the patients weight and has self calibrated.
5 When the patient gets off the bed the alarm will sound
to warn of a falls risk. The alarm cannot be switched off for the first 20 seconds, this is a safety feature.
6 When the patient re-settles in bed the alarm will stop
and the control unit will recalibrate with a loud bleep.
7 The alarm volume can be adjusted (5 levels) using the
two blue buttons (only when the unit is alarming). If the volume is set to zero (only recommended when using the remote pager – see later) it must be reset prior to reuse as the unit will remember the last volume setting.
8 The alarm can be cancelled by switching off the control unit (red button) but this can’t be done for the first 20 seconds after the alarm starts. This is a safety feature.
9 When the carer is helping the patient to get up the
control unit can be turned off (before it alarms) by pressing the red button. Remember to reset with the green button when the patient is resettled.
10 When altering the position of a profiling bed switch
off the control unit first and switch on again when the patient is in the new position.
Bed and Chair (Dual) System See previous page for positioning, connection and switching on. If both bed and chair panels are connected to the control unit, when the patients moves between bed and chair the alarm will sound briefly until the patient settles again on either the bed or chair. If both bed and chair are occupied the bed sensor will take priority and the chair sensor will be ignored.

Battery Replacement
The push- pull connectors have a very simple locking mechanism:
1. If the yellow LED “LOW BATTERY” light flashes on the control unit, the batteries must be replaced as soon as possible. 2. The battery compartment can be accessed via the cover on the reverse side of the Control Unit. 3. Remove the cover by pushing its latch towards the top of the control unit and lifting the cover. 4. Replace the batteries with a high quality AA Alkaline batteries. Cleaning
DO NOT attempt to disconnect the connectors by simply pulling on the cable or the back nut. This will cause the connector to grip harder, a separation will be virtually impossible. Pulling on the grey sleeve outer plug releases the connection and the connector should separate easily.
The SensorCare Falls Prevention System should be wiped with usual hard surface cleaner.
Fault Finding
DO NOT IMMERSE ANY COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM IN LIQUID
If the alarm sounds when the bed or chair is occupied. 1. Check that the sensor panel is correctly positioned under the mattress or cushion LABEL SIDE UP. 2. Check that all connections are correctly assembled and not loose. 3. Look for any cuts/damage along the cable. If the buzzer does not sound when the bed or chair is unoccupied. 1. Is the control unit “ON”? The patient needs to be in bed before the sensor can be switched on. 2. Check that all connections are correctly assembled and not loose. 3. Check that the volume is not turned down too low. 4. Check if the low battery light is flashing. (If it is, change the battery). If the above does not solve the problem please contact SensorCare
To reduce the risk of cross-infection from harmful bacteria the bed and chair pressure sensor panels are sealed in a polyurethane sleeve which is impregnated with anti-microbial additives providing life long protection. THESE SLEEVES SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED The rest of the system is also impregnated with antimicrobial properties, this includes the control unit, wires, cables and base station. Storage When not in use the SensorCare System should be stored as complete sets either in their original packaging or in the SensorCare specially designed, canvas bag. Nurse Call Interface The SensorCare Control Unit can be interfaced to an existing Nurse Call System. For further information contact SensorCare Customer Service.
Customer Information This product may contain substances that could be harmful to the environment if not disposed of CORRECTLY at the end of its life. Electrical & electronic equipment should never be disposed of with general household waste but must be separately collected for their correct treatment and recovery. The crossed-out bin symbol, placed on the product, reminds you of the need to dispose of the product correctly at the end of its life.
Calibration The Control Unit is self-calibrating and constantly monitors the patient to achieve quick response whilst eliminating false alarms. It weighs the patient, and then monitors them according to parameters calculated during the weighing process.
At the end of the life of your product please contact SensorCare for information on collection arrangements. In this way you will assist in the recovery, recycling and reuse of many of the materials used in this product. Where possible recycle your packaging. With your help it is possible to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic waste ending up in landfill sites and improve quality of life by preventing the release of potentially harmful substances into the environment.
Paging System (optional addition) – sends an alert to a remote pager when the bed or chair alarm is activated. Important Note: The control unit, the paging base station and the pager itself must all be factory set to the same paging address code. This code is printed on the back of the control unit and the base station. It is essential that all these 3 components are compatible with each other otherwise the paging system will not operate.
Up to 8 control units (patients) can be monitored by the pager base station.
Setting up the Pager System

1. Turn on the pager by pressing key “B” (enter button) for one second. The pager will Fig 16 beep twice and the message “SensorCare”, together with the time and date will briefly appear on its display. The Pager display will then go blank; this is the power saving mode. The time and date need not be set for the pager to function correctly. Fig.16.

1. When a bed or chair is vacated the pager will bleep or vibrate, with the screen showing which monitor is alarming. If more than one sensor is being used it is essential that staff are aware which patient is on each sensor. 2. To silence the pager press any button. 3. To turn the pager off, press button “A” (menu button) until the menu (consisting of 6 icons) appears, then scroll down using either of the top buttons until the last icon, “ZZZ” is flashing, press button “B” (enter button) and the pager will emit an audible tone or vibrate and then switch off. For further pager operation please refer to the booklet supplied with your paging equipment.
2. Whilst the pager is in power saving mode the message “ON” will appear on its display briefly every ten seconds.
Pager Battery Replacement
3. Find a convenient location for the base station (in the carer’s office for instance). Fig 17. Attach the supplied mains plug to the base station and plug into a mains electrical supply point. The base station must be permanently plugged in for the paging system to operate.
The pager uses one AAA size alkaline battery. The pager will give an audible and on-screen indication when the voltage is low and the battery needs to be changed. The battery compartment is located at the back of the pager, to open, slide up the lock and slide the cover to the right to expose the battery.

The pager is supplied with a rubber protective boot, plastic protective screen cover and a safety strap.
4. Attach the aerials to the base station by pushing them onto the right angled connectors (Fig. 17). Please note that the right-angled connectors can be removed to allow the aerials to be attached like Fig. 18. The aerials will need to be screwed into position. If the base station is to be wall mounted, use the mounting kit supplied and do not use the right angle adapters. Final sentence ‘If the base station is to be wall mounted please ask SensorCare for a mounting kit.’ 5. The base station will beep twice and its green LED will come on. ADDITIONAL PAGERS CAN BE PURCHASED ON REQUEST Up to 8 pagers can be used with one base station. Each time a patient vacates a bed or chair the pager(s) will alert the carer(s) by an audible tone or vibration alert and a message will be displayed. The message will say which patient needs assistance and whether they have vacated the bed or chair. To change alert settings see the pager manual supplied.
Base Station Features As a standard 1 pager is supplied with the Multiple Zone paging system, additional pagers can be purchased on request. The base station has six keys which can be used to send supplementary messages to the pagers as outlined below: Pressing Key 1, 2, 3 or 4 will send the following message to the Pager : E.g. Pressing Key 1+2+3+4 will send the following message to all Pagers: ALL CARERS RETURN TO STATION t
Pressing Key X will send the following message to all Pagers: t CANCEL RETURN TO STATION
