Cleaning and Disinfecting the Ultrasound System Quick Reference Guide v6 October 2020

This quick reference guide represents a consolidated view of Siemens Healthineers ultrasound systems and approved cleaning and disinfection methods for the systems. The agents and methods listed in each product table have been cross-referenced with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) List N; products that meet EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2. Our dedicated taskforce is monitoring the EPA website and other external resources focused on the effectiveness of cleaning agents and methods. This document will be updated as new information becomes available. Always refer to the instructions from the disinfectant manufacturer for guidance on disinfection efficacy, application process, and appropriate clinical uses. Complete instructions, including warnings and cautions, for cleaning and disinfecting your ultrasound system are available in the Instructions for Use for your system.  ACUSON Sequoia  ACUSON SC2000  ACUSON Redwood  ACUSON NX2 and ACUSON NX2 Elite  ACUSON Juniper  ACUSON NX3 and ACUSON NX3 Elite  ACUSON P500  ACUSON Freestyle  ACUSON S Family  ACUSON X600 and ACUSON X700 Warnings  To avoid electric shock and damage to the system, always power off and disconnect the equipment from the AC power source before cleaning and disinfecting.  The use of any disinfectants other than those specified in the Instructions for Use may damage the ultrasound system and accessory surfaces and, as a result, may create electrical hazards for the patients and/or users.

Cautions  Do not clean the system with chlorinated or aromatic solvents, acidic or basic solutions, isopropyl alcohol or strong cleaners such as ammoniated products, as these can damage the surface of the system. Use the recommended cleaning procedure. Isopropyl alcohol exception: It is acceptable to use isopropyl alcohol only when recommended for cleaning the trackball assembly; refer to the Instructions for Use for your ultrasound system.  Do not use spray cleaners on the ultrasound system as this may force cleaning fluid into the system and damage electronic components. It is also possible for the solvent fumes to build up and form flammable gases or damage internal components.  Do not pour any fluid onto the ultrasound system surfaces, as fluid seepage into the electrical circuitry may cause excessive leakage current or system failure.  To avoid the possibility of static shock and damage to the ultrasound system, avoid the use of aerosol spray cleaners on the monitor screens.  Prior to cleaning or disinfecting the system, you must disconnect and remove transducers from the ultrasound system. Unintended contact with disinfectants approved only for use with the system can result in damage to the transducers. Cleaning the System To clean the ultrasound system, use a clean gauze pad or lint-free cloth, lightly moistened with a mild detergent, to wipe the surface of the ultrasound system to ensure areas are free of gel and any other visible residue.  Gently wipe the glass surfaces, for example, the touch screen and monitor.  Take particular care to clean the areas near the trackball, touchpad, soft keys, rotary knobs, and the slide controls.  Ensure that fluids do not seep into any openings on the ultrasound system, for example, the seams on the control panel, the keyboard, or a DVD slot. Disinfecting the System To disinfect the ultrasound system, use an approved disinfectant wipe to disinfect the ultrasound system and accessories. Follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions.
