Replacement Parts for the Active Heel[tm] Traction Boot and Leather Boot Assembly Guide This assembly guide includes instructions for how to replace the straps and/or pads for the Active Heel Traction Boot and the straps and pad of the Leather Boot.

To Replace the Straps or Pads

• Flat head screwdriver

When any straps or pads require replacement, it is recommended that all straps and pads be replaced at that time.

Equipment Provided

Center Strap Disassembly

Active Heel Traction Boot Center Strap Kit (REF 72203275)

Note: Discard used straps, pads, and screws.

Note: Do not discard the black metal plates holding the cam buckles to the boot. They will be reused.

1. Remove the center strap compression pad by unfastening the VELCRO® Brand loop wrapped around the center strap. 2. Remove the Active Heel Traction Boot sole pad.

3. Remove the center strap by unscrewing the cam buckle from the boot (Figure 2). a. Use the Allen wrench to unscrew the two screws that attach the cam buckle to the boot.

2. Using the black metal plates that were previously set aside, reattach the cam buckles. Orient the plates and metal cam buckle as shown in Figure 4.

b. Detach the two black metal plates holding the metal cam buckle and place them to the side for use later. c. Remove that half of the center strap with metal cam buckle from the boot. 4. Repeat for the second cam buckle.

Center Strap Replacement (REF 72203275) Note: The replacement center straps are the long straps with the metal cam buckles and the black plastic buckles attached to them. 1. Slide each end of the black plastic buckle through the small opening on each side of the boot as well as through the heel strap loop (Figure 3).

3. Use the self-locking screws to attach and tighten the black plates and the metal cam buckle to the boot. Note: Ensure that the straps are not twisted. 4. Repeat Steps 1–3 for the other metal cam buckle. 5. Attach the large strap compression pad under the plastic buckle of the center strap by fastening the VELCRO® Brand loop around the strap.

Toe Strap Disassembly 1. Pull the Active Heel[tm] Traction Boot sole pad out of the boot (Figure 1). 2. A flat head screw driver along with the provided Allen wrench is needed to remove the two barrel screws attaching the toe strap to the boot shell (Figure 5). Note: Discard used straps, pads, and screws.

Toe Strap Replacement (REF 72203345)

Calf Strap Disassembly

1. Position the replacement toe strap assembly as shown in Figure 6.

1. Pull the Active Heel Traction Boot calf pad out of the boot (Figure 1). 2. A flat head screw driver along with the Allen wrench, provided, is needed to remove the two barrel screws attaching the calf strap to the boot shell. 3. Remove the heel strap from the elastic rings. Note: Be careful not to break the elastic rings that hold the heel strap in place. If the elastic rings break, the heel strap may not function as intended, which may lead to patient injury. In the event of a broken ring, contact Smith & Nephew Customer Service to have the boot repaired or replaced. Note: Discard used straps, pads, and screws.

Note: The flat side of the grommet should be face up and the rolled side of the grommet should be face down on the plastic boot shell (Figure 7).

2. To reconnect the toe strap pass a new barrel nut through the bottom of the boot shell and the screw through the top of the grommet (Figure 5).

2. Pass the barrel screw through the flat side of the grommet. Note: The flat side of the grommet should face the center of the boot and the rolled side of the grommet should be against the plastic boot shell (Figure 9).

3. A flat head screw driver along with the Allen wrench, provided, is needed to reattach the toe strap. Use a screwdriver to hold the barrel nut steady and tighten the screw with the Allen wrench. 4. Repeat for the other side of the toe strap. 5. Attach the replacement Active Heel[tm] Traction Boot sole pad to the boot. Note: Ensure the indents on the bottom of the Active Heel Traction Boot sole pad are positioned over the grommets. 6. Attach the replacement small strap compression pad under the plastic buckle of the toe strap by fastening the VELCRO® Brand loop around the strap.

3. Align the barrel screw and grommet with the calf strap hole of the boot shell as shown in Figure 8. 4. A flat head screw driver along with the provided Allen wrench is needed to reattach the calf strap. Use a screwdriver to hold the barrel nut steady and tighten the screw with the Allen wrench. 5. Repeat for the other side of the calf strap.

6. Attach the replacement Active Heel[tm] Traction Boot calf pad to the boot. 7. Thread the replacement heel strap through the elastic rings at the heel of the boot. Note: Be careful not to break the elastic rings that hold the heel strap in place. If the elastic rings break, the heel strap may not function as intended, which may lead to patient injury. In the event of a broken ring, contact Smith & Nephew Customer Service to have the boot repaired or replaced. 8. Thread the plastic buckles of the center straps through the end loops of the new heel strap (Figure 10).

8. Attach the remaining two small strap compression pads under the buckles of the calf and toe straps by fastening the VELCRO Brand loop around the strap.

Replacing Straps and Pad for the Leather Boots Equipment provided Leather Boot Kit (REF 72201540) 3 ea. Boot straps (two (2) short for the foot and shin and one (1) long for the ankle) 1 ea. Ankle Pad

To Replace the Leather Boot Straps and Pad 1. Install the leather boot by sliding the attached strap over the foot plate as shown (Figure 11).

9. Attach one of the replacement small strap compression pads to the heel strap by fastening the VELCRO® Brand loop around the strap. 10. Attach the second small strap compression pad under the buckle of the calf strap by fastening the VELCRO Brand loop around the strap.

Pads Only Replacement (REF 72204677) 1. Remove the four strap compression pads by unfastening the VELCRO® Brand loop.

2. Facing the boot, insert the strap that is attached to the left side of the boot through the bottom left slot on the foot plate (Figure 12).

Note: Be careful not to break the elastic rings that hold the heel strap in place. If the elastic rings break, the heel strap may not function as intended, which may lead to patient injury. In the event of a broken ring, contact Smith & Nephew Customer Service, as the boot will need to be repaired or replaced. 2. Remove the Active Heel Traction Boot calf and sole pads from the boot. 3. Discard the used pads. 4. Attach the replacement Active Heel Traction Boot calf pad to the boot. 5. Attach the replacement Active Heel Traction Boot sole pad to the boot.

Note: Ensure the indents on the bottom of the Active Heel Traction Boot sole pad are positioned over the grommets of the toe strap. 6. Attach the large strap compression pad under the plastic buckle of the center strap by fastening the VELCRO Brand loop around the strap. 7. 3. Insert the double ‘D’ ring strap that is attached to the right side of the boot through the bottom right slot on the foot plate.

3. Place the VELCRO Brand strap back onto itself to secure it in place.

4. Thread the left strap through both of the right strap’s rings (Figure 13).

4. Wrap the strap around the boot. Make sure the padded side of the ankle pad is facing the patient (Figure 16).

5. Thread the left strap in-between the ‘D’ rings and pull tight as shown (Figure 14).

5. Insert the other end of the strap into the bottom right slot as shown. (Figure 17).

Ankle Strap and Pad Replacement

6. Adjust the strap using the end loop, as shown, and wrap it backward onto itself and secure it using the VELCRO Brand strips (Figure 18).

1. Begin with the ankle strap (long) and the ankle pad. Holding the long ankle strap with the end loop on the right, slide the ankle pad onto the ankle strap. Note: Make certain the long strips of the VELCRO® Brand are facing you and slide until the long strip of rigid VELCRO Brand engages with the back-side of the pad. Secure the pad in place. 2. From behind, insert the short VELCRO Brand side of the ankle strap into the bottom left slot as shown (Figure 15). Figure 18.

Shin Strap Replacement

Foot Strap Replacement

1. Begin with the shin strap. From underneath, insert the short VELCRO® Brand side of the shin strap through the left single ‘D’ ring strap that is attached to the boot.

1. Begin with the foot strap (short). From behind, insert the short VELCRO Brand side of the foot strap into the top left slot of the foot plate.

2. Place the VELCRO Brand strap back onto itself to secure it in place (Figure 19).

3. Wrap the strap around the top of the boot as shown. Make sure the VELCRO Brand strap is facing away from the patient. 4. Insert the strap through the right single ‘D’ ring strap that is attached to the boot. Adjust the strap, wrap it backward onto itself and secure it using the VELCRO Brand strips (Figure 20).

3. Wrap around and insert the other end of the foot strap into the top right slot. Wrap the strap backward to secure it to the VELCRO Brand strap.
