If using an automated disinfection process, follow manufacturer procedures. For manual disinfection, do the

following:

At the disinfection station: Check the expiration of the disinfectant.

A Check the temperature and concentration of the solution. Disinfect the transducer and cable by soaking in the disinfection fluid. Rinse the transducer by soaking it for at least one minute, three separate times, in a large volume of sterile or filtered water (at least two liters). Discard the rinse water after each rinse.

WARNING

Chemical disinfectants can cause harm to the patient if not completely removed.

Dry the transducer and cable with a sterile, non-linting towel. Store the transducer in accordance with your organization’s policies. For more information on cleaning, disinfecting, transporting, and storing the ICT transducer, refer to the ultrasound system user guide.

Inspect the transducer for damage, such as cracks or splitting that might allow fluid to enter.
