Hansson DC Nail System® Disassembly/assembly of multi-component instruments
1
Introduction The Hansson DC Nail System includes a number of multi-component instruments which must be disassembled for reprocessing according to the Swemac Reprocessing Instructions (available to download at download.swemac.com) and assembled again to be used in the Operating Room (OR).
Contents Guide Wire Driver - Handle... 4 Flexible Screwdriver... 5 Self-Retaining Screwdriver... 6 Depth Gauge 8-125 mm... 7 Targeting Device... 8 Cannulated Drill for Lag Screw/Hansson Twin Hook... 9 Instrument Trays... 10

Guide Wire Driver - Handle The Guide Wire Driver - Handle (151.0002) is stored fully assembled on the dedicated bracket on the tray. It consists of 3 parts that should be disassembled when reprocessing; the black handle, the metallic lever arm (with spring) and the screw.
Disassembly Metallic lever arm
To disassemble the metallic lever arm (with spring) from the black handle, loosen and remove the screw by turning it anti-clockwise. Note that the spring cannot be removed from the lever.
Black handle
Screw
Assembly To reassemble the Guide Wire Driver - Handle after reprocessing, insert the angled part of the lever arm into the hole so that the spring reaches into the slot in the handle. Manoeuvre the lever arm until the holes in the handle and the lever arm are aligned and the screw can be inserted. The screw is only partially threaded to allow easy insertion of its smooth tip whilst keeping the components together. The screw can be tightened once the threads are engaged.
4
Flexible Screwdriver The Flexible Screwdriver (151.1004) is stored fully assembled on the dedicated bracket on the tray. It is used in combination with the Handle with AO Coupling during surgery. The Flexible Screwdriver consists of 2 parts; an inner component (a hex tip attached to a thin wire with a cylindrical end) and an outer component (tube with AO connection).
Inner component
Outer component
Disassembly To disassemble the Flexible Screwdriver, refrain from simply pulling the inner component to remove it. The cylindrical end must first be released by lifting it up with a fingertip until it is above the narrow portion of the slot in the outer part and can be pulled into the wider portion of the slot. The inner component can then be pulled out completely.
Assembly To reassemble the Flexible Screwdriver after reprocessing, slide the wire of the inner component into the open end of the outer component. The narrowing slot in the outer component will guide the wire so that the small cylinder is lifted above the slot and will drop into the recess when the hexagon ball joint is fully seated in the internal hexagon of the outer component.
5
Self-Retaining Screwdriver The Self-Retaining Screwdriver (151.1006) is stored fully assembled on the dedicated bracket on the tray. It is used in combination with the Handle with AO Coupling during surgery. The Self-Retaining Screwdriver consists of 2 parts; an inner component and an outer component.
Inner component
Outer component
Disassembly To disassemble the Self-Retaining Screwdriver, turn the lock wheel of the outer sleeve anti-clockwise until it is detached from the inner component.
Assembly To resassemble the Self-Retaining Screwdriver, insert the inner part into the outer part until it reaches the threads. Turn the lock wheel clockwise to engage the threads.
6
Depth Gauge 8-125 mm The Depth Gauge 8-125 mm (151.7004) is stored fully assembled on the dedicated bracket on the tray. It consists of 2 parts; a white inner component with measurements and the outer sleeve component.
White inner component
Outer sleeve component
Disassembly Disassembly of the Depth Gauge 8-125 mm requires the white inner component to be pulled out of the outer sleeve component. The inner component is retracted until the metal tip (with hook) reaches the tip of the outer component. It must then be manoeuvred into the cannulation of the outer sleeve and removed from the outer component.
Assembly Reassembly of the Depth Gauge 8-125 mm requires the white inner component to be inserted into the outer sleeve component.

Targeting Device The Targeting Device consists of three components: the Targeting Device Arm (151.4002), the Targeting Device Knob (151.4003), and the Targeting Device Sleeve to match the CCD angle of the chosen Nail*. In normal circumstances, the Targeting Device should be disassambled in the OR and the components stored in their individual brackets on the tray.
Targeting Device Arm (151.4002)
Targeting Device Knob (151.4003)
The Targeting Device Sleeve is available in three different versions for different CCD angles.
Yellow 120° (151.4004) Blue 125° (151.4005) Green 130° (151.4006)
Disassembly To disassemble the Targeting Device, align the pins of the Targeting Device Sleeve with the notches in the Knob and pull the Sleeve out. In this position the Targeting Device Knob can also be removed. Pull firmly to release the snap-on mechanism. You may feel some resistance until the knob comes loose which is normal.
Assembly The Targeting Device Knob is mounted onto the base of the Targeting Device Arm by aligning the black arrow on the Knob with the white arrow on the inner side of the Arm. The parts are pushed together and a clicking sound confirms that the Knob is properly seated and able to rotate. The correct Targeting Device Sleeve is then selected and inserted into the base of the Targeting Device. Align the pins of the Sleeve with the notches in the Knob and push forward to click the Sleeve into place. It is only possible to insert the Sleeve in one direction to ensure the oblique holes will align.

* At market introduction, all Nail types are only available with a CCD angle of 125° and should be used with the Blue coloured Targeting Device Sleeve 125° (151.4005).
Cannulated Drill for Lag Screw/Hansson Twin Hook The Stop Sleeve for Drill, Locknut and Cannulated Drill for Lag Screw/ Hansson Twin Hook are separate parts and should, in normal circumstances, be disassembled in the OR and stored in their individual brackets on the tray.
Locknut (151.3005)
Stop Sleeve for Drill (151.3004)
Cannulated Drill for Twin Hook (155.3001) or Cannulated Drill for Lag Screw (151.3003)
Disassembly To disassemble the Cannulated Drill, turn the Locknut clockwise until it is flush with the Stop Sleeve. Once in this position it can then be removed from the Lag Screw/Hansson Twin Hook drill. To separate the Locknut from the Stop Sleeve for Dill, turn the Locknut anti-clockwise until it comes loose.
Assembly To Assemble the drill, the Locknut must first be pushed firmly onto the Stop Sleeve for Drill and turned clockwise as far as it will go. This is now ready to slide onto the back of the Cannulated Drill. Slide the Stop Sleeve + Locknut along the Drill until the correct length is seen in the measurement window. Turn the Locknut anticlockwise to lock the Stop Sleeve at the correct length for drilling.
