PocketJunior The operating and maintenance instructions for the Welch Allyn Halogen PocketJunior set found in this manual are for the Ophthalmic and Diagnostic model sets. Follow these instructions to ensure many years of reliable service. Before using this product, please read the warnings and instructions. As a precaution, avoid using this device in close proximity to other equipment. • Do not sterilize the Power Handle. • Only authorized Welch Allyn Service Centers can perform service. • POSSIBLE EXPLOSION HAZARD. Equipment not suitable for use in the presence of a flammable anesthetic. • Use of accessories or materials not indicated in the Operator’s Manual can degrade the minimum safety of the equipment. • Do not disassemble or modify any battery. • Remove dead batteries from the handle immediately.

• Slight heating of the handle is normal during extended use of the product. • Remove the batteries from the handle if the instrument is not in use for an extended period of time. Operating Instructions: Retinoscope 1. External focusing sleeve (number 1, figure 1) allows for easy adjustment with continuous 360 degree rotation. 2. Use the retinoscope in a telescoped position only. To telescope the retinoscope, grip head and pull in an outward direction.
Ophthalmoscope 1. Rubber Brow Rest (1). 2. Aperture selection dial (2) with continous rotation: Allows access to microspot, small, large, fixation, slit and cobalt blue. 3. Lens Selection Dial (8) - When used with multiplier lever, allows single diopter steps through 48 lens combinations (from +22 to -25 diopters). 4. Multiplier Lever (7) - Allows fast movement through the range via 16 diopter shifts. 5. Two-position filter switch (4): Engage either open (3) or red-free (5) filter. 6. Diopter Display Window (9) - Displays direct reading of diopter values (positive in green, negative in red).
Lens Instructions To adjust through positive (+) range: • Rotate lens selection dial (8) in positive (clockwise) direction to +6 diopters. Move lens selection dial clockwise again, then move multiplier lever (7) to "+" position. Continue moving lens dial in same clockwise direction to access +7 thru +22 diopters. To adjust through negative (-) range: • Rotate lens selection dial (8) in negative (counterclockwise) direction to -9 diopters. Move lens selection dial counterclockwise again, move multiplier lever (7) to "-" position. Continue moving lens dial in same counterclockwise direction to access -10 thru -25 diopters.
Handle Operation 1. Grip Handle Tube (3) in hand. 2. Using thumb, rotate switch (1) from OFF to ON position as shown in figure 4. 3. To turn unit OFF reverse step 2. Maintenance Lamp Replacement Retinoscope/Otoscope/Ophthalmoscope 1. Remove (unscrew) head. 2. Grasp end of lamp (see fig. 3) and pull out (use nail file or similar object if necessary.) 3. Insert proper replacement lamp by carefully aligning pin on lamp shaft with slot in head. Push lamp in until firmly seated.

NOTE: If lamp surface is touched or becomes smudged, wipe clean with a soft cloth. This will assure longer lamp life and higher light output. CAUTION: Lamp may be hot. Lamp should be allowed to cool before removal.
Battery Replacement 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Grip Handle Tube (3) and Top Cap (2) firmly in hand. Unscrew Bottom Cap (4). Gently tap handle in hand to help batteries slide out. Insert new batteries, positive (+) terminal facing Top Cap (see fig. 4 for orientation). Screw in Bottom Cap.
Cleaning Recomendations Wipe all external surfaces with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water solution, a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water solution, or a solution of 10% Clorox and water. DO NOT immerse. Wring out the cloth to prevent excess moisture from entering the assembly. Clean instrument windows with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. NOTE: Excess solution entering the assembly could damage internal components. Use caution to ensure cloth is not saturated with solution. Retinoscope Ophthalmoscope Figure 1 Figure 2
