This instruction manual is intended to serve as an aid in the proper setup, installation, and operation of the ROTOCUT™ G1 Electromechanical Morcellator and the UNIDRIVE® GYN control unit. All essential details of the equipment and all actions required on your part are clearly presented and explained. We thus ask that you read this manual carefully before proceeding to work with the equipment. Insert this manual in its protective wallet and keep it available for ready reference in a convenient and conspicuous location near the equipment.

The UNIDRIVE® GYN is equipped with a connector { for attaching a ground line. The unit’s ground line should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Before connecting the unit to the electrical supply lines, verify that the line voltage stated on the unit’s identification plate agrees with that of the electrical supply lines to be used.

Hinweis: Werksseitig ist das Gerät mit 2-AmpereSicherungen für den Betrieb an einem 230/240 VoltNetz ausgelegt. Note: At the factory, 2 A fuses suitable for operation at a 230/240 V supply are inserted in the unit. If you are operating the unit at 100…120 V, the 2 A fuses inserted at the factory will need to be replaced with 4 A fuses (T4AH or T4AL) (see ‘Fuse replacement’ section on pages 28–29). Insert the power cord into the unit’s power supply cord receptacle q, pushing the power plug firmly home. Warning: Only insert the power plug into and remove it from electrical outlets located outside areas subject to explosion hazards.

Nota: El aparato viene equipado de fábrica con fusibles de 2 amperios para su uso en una red de 230/240 V. En caso de conectar el aparato a una red de 100 a 120 V, deberán cambiarse los fusibles integrados de fábrica de 2 amperios por fusibles de 4 amperios (T4AH o T4AL) (véase la sección “Cambio de fusibles”, págs. 28–29). Auf der ,großen‘ 7-Segmentanzeige R erscheint nach Einschalten der Steuereinheit der zuletzt angewählte Betriebsmodus (z. B. P1). Wird eine der ± Tasten I betätigt, so wird die momentane Maximaldrehzahl angezeigt. Wird innerhalb von 2 s erneut eine der ± Tasten betätigt, so wird die Maximaldrehzahl entsprechend angehoben oder abgesenkt. Werden die ± Tasten I 2 s lang nicht mehr betätigt, schaltet das Display wieder auf Anzeige des Betriebsmodus zurück. Während der Betätigung eines Fußschalterpedals wird auf der ,kleinen‘ 7-Segmentanzeige E die Maximaldrehzahl und auf der ,großen‘ 7-Segmentanzeige R die momentane Ist-Drehzahl des Applikationsinstrumentes angezeigt. Auf der ,kleinen‘ 7-Segmentanzeige E erscheint nach Einschalten der Steuereinheit die durch den zuletzt ausgewählten Betriebsmodus vorgegebene Maximaldrehzahl.

On the ‘large’ 7-segment display R the operating mode last selected (e.g. P1) appears when the control unit is switched on. If either of the ± buttons I is pressed, the current maximum speed is displayed. If either of the ± buttons is pressed again within 2 s, the maximum speed is increased or reduced accordingly. If the ± buttons I are not pressed for 2 s, the display returns to indication of the operating mode. When pressing a footswitch pedal the maximum speed is indicated on the ‘small’ 7-segment display E and the current actual speed of the application instrument is indicated on the ‘large’ 7segment display R. When the control unit is switched on, the maximum speed dependent on the operating mode last selected appears on the ‘small’ 7-segment display E.

En el indicador “grande” de 7 segmentos R aparece, después de conectar la unidad de mando, el modo de servicio seleccionado en último lugar (p. ej., P1). Si se pulsa una de las teclas ± I, entonces se indica el número máximo de revoluciones actual. Die Balkenanzeige W zeigt bei nicht betätigtem Pedal die eingestellte Maximaldrehzahl mittels eines einzelnen Leuchtpunktes an. Bei betätigtem Pedal erscheint ein Leuchtbalken entsprechend der Ist-Drehzahl.

Provided the pedal is not pressed, the bargraph display W indicates the set maximum speed with a single illuminated dot. When the pedal is pressed, an illuminated bar appears according to the actual speed.

Cuando no está activado el interruptor de pedal, el indicador de barras W indica por medio de un único punto luminoso el número de revoluciones máximo ajustado. Estando el interruptor de pedal activado, aparece una barra luminosa correspondientemente con el número de revoluciones real.

Der Service-Modus ermöglicht die Abfrage verschiedener Informationen über den Betriebszustand des UNIDRIVE® GYN. Im Service-Modus kann auch ein Betriebsmodus dauerhaft gespeichert werden (siehe S. 21). Um den Service-Modus zu aktivieren die ,+‘ und ,–‘ Taste I gleichzeitig betätigen.

Service mode makes it possible to request various items of information about the operating status of the UNIDRIVE® GYN. In service mode an operating mode can be saved permanently (see page 21). To activate the service mode press the ‘+’ and ‘–’ buttons I simultaneously.

El modo de servicio permite requerir diversas informaciones acerca del estado de servicio del UNIDRIVE® GYN. En el modo de servicio puede también memorizarse de forma permanente un modo de funcionamiento (véase la pág. 21). Con el fin de activar el modo de servicio, pulse simultáneamente las teclas “+” y “–” I.

Auf der Digitalanzeige E wird im Service-Modus die ROM-Versionsnummer angezeigt. Auf der Digitalanzeige R können • die Fehlermeldungscodes (E01– E21), • die Seriennummer des Gerätes und • der Speichermodus ,P –‘ (um einen Betriebsmodus dauerhaft zu speichern) angezeigt werden.

The digital display E shows the ROM version number in service mode. The digital display R can show • error message codes (E01– E21) • the serial number of the unit and • storage mode ‘P–’ (to save an operating mode permanently).

Ist ein Fehler aufgetreten, so steht vor dem entsprechenden Fehlercode ein ,E‘ im Display. Durch wiederholtes Drücken der ,+‘ Taste I können die Fehlercodes abgefragt werden. Nach den Fehlermeldungscodes wird auf den Digitalanzeigen E und R die Seriennummer des Gerätes angezeigt. Die Digitalanzeige E zeigt die höherwertigen Stellen an. Nach der Seriennummer zeigt die Anzeige R ,P –‘. Dieser Modus dient dazu einen Betriebsmodus (P1–P3) dauerhaft zu speichern.

If an error has occurred, the display shows an ‘E’ in front of the corresponding error code. By pressing the ‘+’ button I a number of times the various error codes can be shown. After the error message codes the digital displays E and R show the serial number of the unit. Digital display E indicates the higher-value digits. After the serial number the display R shows ‘P–’. This mode is used to save an operating mode (P1–P3) permanently.

Si ocurre un error, entonces en el display aparece una “E” antes del código de error correspondiente. Pulsando repetidamente la tecla “+” I pueden requerirse los códigos de error. Después de los códigos de mensaje de error, en los indicadores digitales E y R aparece el número de serie del aparato. El indicador digital E indica la posición de mayor valor. Después del número de serie, en el indicador R aparece “P–”. Este modo sirve para memorizar de forma permanente un modo de funcionamiento (P1–P3).

Schneiderohr deshalb nur unter visueller Kontrolle einführen oder entfernen. Schneiderohr mit Obturator in das Abdomen einführen. Beim Entfernen des Obturators empfiehlt es sich, die Öffnung bis zum Einführen der Fasszange mit dem Finger zu verschließen, um größere Gasverluste zu vermeiden. Warnung: Ein Abrutschen des in Betrieb befindlichen Schneiderohres kann zu Verletzungen führen.

Warning: Risk of injury! Sharp-edged cutting tube. Can cause injury to tissue even in unactivated state. For this reason, insert or remove the cutting tube only under visual control. Insert the cutting tube together with the obturator into the abdomen. When removing the obturator, it is recommended that the opening be closed with a finger until insertion of the grasping forceps to avoid sizeable losses of gas. Warning: Slippage of the cutting tube when in operation can cause injury.

Hinweis: Die Dichtungskappe wird unsteril ausgeliefert. Sie muss vor der ersten Verwendung sterilisiert werden (siehe Tabelle Seite 32 ,Morcellatorzubehör‘). Vor und nach dem Reinigen/Sterilisieren auf Beschädigungen kontrollieren. Es wird empfohlen, die Dichtungskappe bei jeder Anwendung zu erneuern.

Note: The sealing cap is delivered unsterilized. It must be sterilized before being used for the first time (see table on page 32 ‘Morcellator accessories’). Check for damage before and after cleaning/sterilization. It is recommended that the sealing cap be replaced every time the unit is used.

Messer einführen Den Obturator entnehmen und den Handgriff mit Messer einsetzen. Das System bleibt durch das speziell entwickelte Blechstreifenventil im Innenraum des Motors dicht. Ein Gasverlust wird somit weit gehend verhindert.

Insert cutter Remove the obturator and insert the handle with the cutter. The system remains sealed thanks to the specially developed plate strip valve in the interior of the motor. Gas loss is thus prevented to a large extent.

Zur Gewebeentfernung wird durch das Schneiderohr eine Gewebefasszange in das Abdomen eingeführt, mit der das zu extrahierende Gewebe gefasst wird. Um Verletzungen der Bauchwand zu vermeiden, sollte das zu zerkleinernde Gewebe vor der Applikation des Morcellators völlig freipräpariert werden. Während des Zerkleinerns kann das Gewebestück mit einer zweiten Fasszange fixiert werden. Um die Schneideleistung des Morcellators mit geradem Schaft sicherzustellen, sollte das Schneiderohr maximal bis zur Hälfte mit zerkleinertem Gewebe gefüllt und dann entleert werden. Eine möglichst senkrechte Position des Motors bei Verwendung des abgeschrägten Außenschaftes erlaubt die Entnahme größerer Gewebestücke. Hierbei empfiehlt es sich das freipräparierte Organ nicht mit einer weiteren Fasszange zu fixieren. Hinweis: Für die Zerkleinerung von malignen Tumoren bzw. von Gewebe, bei dem der Verdacht auf Malignität besteht, sowie sonstigem Gewebe, das zu einer Kontamination der Körperhöhle führen kann, ist die Verwendung eines Extraktionsbeutels (Best.-Nr. 040143-05 oder 040144-05) angezeigt.

To remove tissue, insert tissue forceps into the abdomen through the cutting tube and grasp the tissue to be extracted. To prevent injury to the abdominal wall, the tissue to be morcellated should be completely detached before applying the Morcellator. A second pair of grasping forceps can be used to prevent the tissue from moving about during morcellation. In order to ensure that the Morcellator with straight shaft cuts efficiently, the cutting tube should be filled only half full, at the most, with cut tissue and then emptied. Keeping the motor as vertical as possible when using the oblique outer tube allows larger pieces of tissue to be removed. In this case, it is not advisable to grasp the exposed organ with another pair of grasping forceps. Note: The use of a tissue extraction bag (Cat. no. 040143-05 or 040144-05) is advised for the morcellation of malignant tumors or tissue suspected of being malignant, and for tissue that the surgeon may consider to be harmful if disseminated in a body cavity.

Para la extracción de tejido se introduce una pinza para sujeción de tejidos en el abdomen a través del tubo de corte, con la que se sujeta el tejido que se va a extraer. A fin de evitar lesionar la pared abdominal, habrá de separarse completamente el tejido que se desea fragmentar, antes de aplicar el morcelador. Asimismo, durante la fragmentación se recomienda fijar los trozos de tejido con una segunda pinza. A fin de asegurar la potencia de corte del morcelador con vaina recta, el tubo de corte deberá llenarse de tejido fragmentado como máximo hasta la mitad, debiendo vaciarse a continuación. Al utilizar la vaina exterior biselada, una posición lo más vertical posible del motor permite extraer trozos de tejido más grandes. Al hacerlo, es recomendable no fijar con una segunda pinza de agarre el órgano separado. Nota: Para la fragmentación de tumores malignos o de tejidos en los que exista sospecha de malignidad, así como de otros tejidos que puedan producir contaminación en las cavidades corporales, está indicada la utilización de una bolsa de extracción (Nº de pedido 040143-05 ó 040144-05).

Undo the cutter Holding the cutter in one hand and the handle in the other, pull them apart. The cutter will detach from the handle with a click.

Dichtungskappe lösen Am hinteren Ende des Handgriffs befindet sich noch die Dichtungskappe. Diese durch leichtes Ziehen vom Handgriff lösen.

Remove the sealing cap The sealing cap is still fitted at the back end of the handle. Remove it from the handle by pulling gently.

Hinweis: Die Dichtungskappe wird unsteril ausgeliefert. Sie muss vor der ersten Verwendung sterilisiert werden (siehe Tabelle Seite 32 ,Morcellatorzubehör‘). Vor und nach dem Reinigen/Sterilisieren auf Beschädigungen kontrollieren. Es wird empfohlen, die Dichtungskappe bei jeder Anwendung zu erneuern.

Note: The sealing cap is delivered unsterilized. It must be sterilized before being used for the first time (see table on page 32 ‘Morcellator accessories’). Check for damage before and after cleaning/sterilization. It is recommended that the sealing cap be replaced every time the unit is used.

Soltar la caperuza de junta La caperuza de junta todavía se encuentra en el extremo posterior del mango. Suelte la misma del mango tirando ligeramente de ella. Nota: La caperuza de junta se suministra sin esterilizar, debiendo ser esterilizada antes de la primera utilización (véase la tabla de la pág. 32 “Accesorios del morcelador”). Detach outer tube Detach the outer tube from the motor housing by turning it counterclockwise.

Take out motor valve Carefully turn the motor housing with the flat side (see arrow) facing downward and remove the motor valve by hand.

Hinweis: Die Anleitung ,Reinigung, Sterilisation und Pflege von KARL STORZ Instrumenten‘ muss beachtet werden. Dort sind die Verfahren zur Reinigung, Desinfektion und Sterilisation im Detail erklärt. Warnung: Vor sämtlichen Reinigungsarbeiten das Gerät vom Netz trennen! Vorsicht: Unbedingt vermeiden, dass Flüssigkeit in das Gehäuse eindringt. Die Außenflächen des Gerätes und des Fußschalters können mit einem desinfektionsmittelbefeuchteten (keine alkoholischen Konzentrate) Einmaltuch wischend desinfiziert werden.

Note: The instructions for ‘Cleaning, Sterilization and Care of KARL STORZ Instruments’ must be followed. There the procedures for Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization are explained in detail. Warning: Always unplug the power plug before cleaning! Caution: Avoid allowing fluids to enter the unit. The exterior of the unit and footswitch can be wipedown disinfected using a disposable cloth moistened with disinfectant (no solutions predominantly containing alcohol).
