INTRODUCTION AND INDICATIONS INTRODUCTION
INDICATIONS
Your Dyonics® 325Z DV Camera System is a stateof-the-art video camera designed for use in all endoscopic surgical applications. Its fingertip control of camera sensitivity, digital zoom, VCRs, video printers or still image recorders maximizes surgeon control over lighting and documentation. The 325Z DV Camera System's advanced 3-CCD circuitry provides superior color rendition and highresolution images while at the same time delivering advanced automatic features and the ability to customize the camera to meet each operational requirement. The 325Z DV camera offers optimum light sensitivity to insure sufficient light output at all times in various endoscopic surgical applications. The improved shutter of the 325Z DV camera will result in smoother light compensation. Variable controls such as automatic shutter settings and light adjustments permit adaptation of the camera to address changing conditions during surgery. The digital zoom feature, controllable from one of the camera buttons, will give you the versatility you need to access surgical sites previously difficult to visualize. In addition, the camera head cable is designed to offer greater reliability and durability for trouble-free service. The latest feature is the IEEE-1394 digital output port, which allows direct digital video connection with any accessory compatible with the DV format IEEE-1394 interface.
The Dyonics Vision 325Z DV 3-CCD Color Video Camera System is indicated for use in endoscopic surgical procedures to allow visualization of the articular cavities, body cavities, hollow organs and canals, when used with an appropriately indicated endoscope. Additionally, when used in conjunction with a Dyonics light source and light cable, the 325Z DV Camera System is indicated for use in endoscopic surgical procedures in the thoracic cavity when used with an appropriately indicated thoracoscope.

WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS Prior to using this equipment, please read this manual thoroughly, paying particular attention to the operating instructions and precautions. This manual will familiarize you with your Dyonics Vision 325Z DV 3-CCD Camera and the steps necessary for proper setup and maintenance. Smith & Nephew surgical equipment is designed for use only by medical professionals who are completely familiar with the appropriate surgical techniques and video procedures.

• All products used in conjunction with this camera, such as video monitors, video printers, etc., are likely to have an inherent leakage current at their video connections. Thus, their connection to this camera would likely increase the leakage current at the camera's chassis.
• To prevent electric shock, do not remove any covers or screws from the Camera Control Unit (CCU) or camera head. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Dismantling the equipment will void the warranty.
• When looping the video output to more than one piece of equipment, the termination switch on the last looping piece of equipment should be in the 75 Ω (ohm) or the “ON” position if the equipment provides that option.
• If this unit is configured as part of a system, the entire system should be tested for compliance with IEC 60601-1-1.
• Do not point the camera head toward direct sunlight, extremely bright lights or laser beams for prolonged periods as damage may occur.
• If the leakage current of the configured system exceeds the limits of IEC 60601-1-1, install an appropriately rated UL 2601-1/IEC 60601-1 approved isolation transformer and retest the system.
• DO NOT STEAM AUTOCLAVE THE CAMERA HEAD AND CABLE. Warranty will be void if unit is autoclaved.

• The use of accessory equipment not complying with the equivalent safety requirements of this equipment may lead to a reduced level of safety of the resulting system. • Do not clean, disinfect or sterilize the camera cable without the protective soak cap securely installed over the camera head cable connector. Failure to install the soak cap will allow moisture and corrosion buildup around the connector pins and will cause the camera system to fail. • DO NOT PLUG THE CAMERA CABLE CONNECTOR INTO THE CCU IF WET. Moisture on the connector pins of the camera cable will damage the circuitry and void your warranty. Insure that the connector pins are completely dry before plugging the camera head into the CCU. • Do not submerge or soak the equipment if damaged, as further damage could result. Use alternative disinfectant methods prior to returning equipment to Smith & Nephew. • If the camera head lens needs cleaning, use a high quality lens cleaner and lens cloth or brush.

CAUTIONS (continued) • Insure that the protective cap is covering the electrical connector before cleaning. Dampen a cloth with an enzymatic cleaner (diluted according to manufacturer’s instructions) and warm water. Clean the lens, camera head, cable, and covered connector. Scrub all crevices (paying special attention to the button area) using a cleaning brush to remove any visible debris from all crevices. • Please check with Smith & Nephew customer service as to recommended methods of sterilization. Use of reprocessing agents not approved by Smith & Nephew will void the warranty. • AVOID PINCHING OR DAMAGING THE CAMERA CABLE (i.e., rolling heavy equipment over it, securing with clamps, pinching in doors, etc.). • Check leakage currents when interconnecting the camera with other equipment.

• This equipment is designed and tested to minimize interference with other electrical equipment. However, if interference occurs with other equipment it may be corrected by one or more of the following measures: – Reorient or relocate this equipment, the other equipment, or both. – Increase the separation between the pieces of equipment. – Connect the pieces of equipment into different outlets or circuits. – Consult a biomedical engineer. • This equipment contains electronic printed circuit assemblies. At the end of the useful life of the equipment it should be disposed of in accordance with any applicable national or institutional related policy relating to obsolete electronic equipment.

The AUTO shutter button may be set to operate in an “ON” (green LED is illuminated) or “OFF” mode. • The “ON” (AUTO) shutter setting does not require an automatic light source because it automatically adjusts the brightness of the video picture in response to varying light levels. To obtain the best results, set the light source to the maximum output and camera at half setting. • If an automatic light source is used, the camera shutter setting can be in the “OFF” mode and the automatic light source can be used to adjust the picture brightness. The meter provides a visual gauge of the shutter setting, (brightness/ dimness). This button increases the brightness of the illumination when the Shutter Control is in AUTO “ON” mode only. This button decreases the brightness of the illumination when the Shutter Control is in AUTO “ON” mode only. The COLOR BAR button generates an internal color bar signal for monitor adjustment. The green LED above the button illuminates when the COLOR BAR is activated. This button automatically adjusts the camera for optimal white balance when the button is depressed and the camera is focused on a white object for five seconds. White Balance Complete will be displayed on the monitor when the procedure is successful. The GAIN button automatically increases the brightness of the video picture from 0 to 9 decibels, as required. The GAIN button is normally used when the picture is too dark even with the light source adjusted to its maximum brightness. When GAIN is activated, the green LED above the button will illuminate. This green rocker switch activates the power for the video camera. Illumination of the switch indicates that the power is on.

CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS (continued) CAMERA CONTROL UNIT (CCU) REAR PANEL CONTROLS This CCU, REF 7209070, has been configured to meet your specific digital imaging visualization needs. This unit provides a digital output port to allow direct IEEE-1394 connection from the rear panel of the surgical CCU to any accessory compatible with DV format IEEE-1394.

FUNCTION
1. Power Receptacle
This receptacle accepts the standard connector from the Dyonics hospitalgrade power cord. This factory-assigned number uniquely identifies your equipment and is required for use in warranty claims. The Settings Selector has 16 positions and provides setup controls for items such as camera power up designation and camera head accessory switch control. See the Customizing section for more details. The Black Set Control is a recessed button which is used to recalibrate the 3-CCD camera CCU at six month to one year intervals. These two output jacks provide communication control from the camera head switches to video accessories. They are labeled SW1 (Switch #1) and SW2 (Switch #2). These two standard video outputs are used with video accessories. (Generally, the second video output is used for VCR or second monitor connections.) These outputs are labeled 1 and 2. The Video Black Signal accepts vertical sync information for genlocking the camera system to another video system. This output provides communications for standard light sources. The video signal from this output allows the light output of the light source to react to changing light conditions. This video output is a standard Y/C (S-Video or S-VHS) output for video accessories that use Y/C (S-Video) signals (such as S-VHS VCRs and Y/C monitors). This output is labeled 1. This set of connections, labeled Red (R/R-Y), Green (G/Y), Blue (B/B-Y), and Sync are video outputs for video accessories that use RGB signals and R-Y/Y/B-Y signals (for example, video printers and monitors). This slide switch allows the video output connections to switch between RGB and R-Y/Y/B-Y.

This switch allows you to power on or off the enhancement function to give you more contrast. This digital output port is a standard IEEE-1394 4-pin connector for digital video accessories.

1. Left Camera Head Switch
This blue button corresponds to the Accessory Control SW1 output on the CCU rear panel. The button adjustment is controlled by the Settings Selector rotary dial on the CCU rear panel. This gray button corresponds to Accessory Control SW2 output on the CCU rear panel. The button adjustment is controlled by the Settings Selector rotary dial on the CCU rear panel. The custom cap protects the camera cable connector from potentially damaging moisture during sterilization and must be in place as shown during any cleaning or sterilization cycle. This is a 12 foot (3.65 meter) camera cable for the remote camera head. An extended 30 foot (10 meter) cable option is available for use with operating microscopes. Option for those who prefer a cable exiting straight off the camera head.

SYSTEM INSPECTION Prior to using your video system, it is essential that all components of the system be inspected for damage which can negatively impact the camera or other equipment performance. This inspection should include all equipment to be used in surgery, including scopes, cables and accessories.
inspected in the same manner, by holding one end up to a good light and inspecting the other end. The fiber area should appear white or clear. If there are damaged fibers, they will appear as black dots or dark gray areas. Replace the scope when 15–20% of the fibers are damaged.
VIDEO CAMERA AND ACCESSORIES • Remove the video camera and accessories from the shipping container. Insure that all boxes and sealed plastic bags inside the shipping container are opened and inspected to insure that all components are accounted for. Refer to accessory package for components. • Inspect all video components for damage during shipment. Contact your Smith & Nephew representative if damage is noticed. Note: Follow the guidelines provided in this section and the Sterilization section of this manual before proceeding with surgery.
ENDOSCOPES Damage to the scopes can impact performance. For more information, please consult endoscope Instructions for Use. The possible causes for scope damage are: • Scratches and/or chips can cause a blurry or out-of-focus image. Examine the distal and proximal lenses for scratches and/or chips. • Dings or dents in the shafts of the endoscope can crush the glass fibers, resulting in less light and/or a distorted image. Examine the shaft of the endoscope to insure integrity. • Residual buildup of sterilization can cause blurry and streaked images on lenses, or can bake onto the lenses and fiber optic cable post causing a yellow filtering effect on the image. Check distal and proximal lenses and the fiber optic post and remove buildup with an alcohol prep or cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Prevent future problems by observing the correct sterilizing procedure outlined in this manual, including cleaning the lens with alcohol and a cotton swab after each soaking. • Damaged fibers cause significant breakdown in quality of operation. Check the scope for fiber damage by aiming the distal end of the scope toward a light and looking at the amount of broken fiber bundles in the fiber optic post (Figure 4). Fiber optic light guides should be

• Verify that the picture is clear by looking through the scope (direct view only).
FIBER OPTIC CABLES • Cuts, abrasions or tears in the silicone sheath cause a loss of light. Check the sheath for damage. • Aim one end of the cable toward a light and observe the other end, just as you did with the scope (Figure 4). Check for damaged fibers (e.g., black dots or dark gray areas). A combination of broken fibers in the cable and the endoscope will result in loss of light. The combined percentage should not exceed 15–20%. • Perform a visual fiber bundle diameter comparison. For optimal light transmission, the diameter of the fiber bundles in the scope’s fiber optic post should match the fiber cable's diameter.
LIGHT SOURCE Verify that the light source is producing the correct amount of light. Factors that can affect the light output include: • Improper bulb placement • Blown fuses and/or thermocouples • Worn-out or burned-out bulbs Refer to the manufacturer’s Operations Manual if you suspect problems with the light source.

COLOR MONITOR ADJUSTMENT TIPS
Examine the electrical connections: • Electrocautery and other electrical noise-inducing medical equipment can interfere with the performance of the camera and monitors. To prevent interference, plug monitors and camera equipment into an outlet on a wall separate from noise-inducing equipment. • Check that the electrical equipment is properly grounded (i.e., plugs contain a ground prong). The camera must be plugged into a hospital-grade AC outlet. • If the monitor has a Termination switch, it needs to be set to 75 Ω (ohms). If two or more monitors are used, only the last one needs to be ON. • Double check the equipment setup diagrams to insure that the connections are correct.
Below are some tips for adjusting color video monitors: • Connect your monitor in accordance with its instruction manual, setting the Termination switch as explained in this section under Electrical Connections. • Most monitors have a Reset button on the front panel which, when pressed, will restore settings to the factory settings. If this is not the case, continue with the following steps: • Begin with contrast (picture) and brightness controls in the middle or mid-detent position. Adjust brightness slightly so that black is black and white is white. Note: Too little brightness causes loss of detail in blacks; too much brightness makes the black look green; too much contrast makes the colors and picture dark. • Color saturation is adjusted with the chroma (color) adjustment knob or button. Decreasing this setting will reduce the amount of overall color perceived in the image. In the fully decreased position, the image will be black and white. Too much color saturation makes the image unpleasant to look at and the colors appear noisy or smeared. • Adjust the hue (tint or phase) back and forth until a good balance of orange and purple (cyan and magenta) is achieved. Note: If your monitor is equipped with a “Blue Only” adjustment, when the color bars are displayed, press the Blue Only button. Adjust the color and tint controls to achieve a balance between the dark lines and the light lines so that all black lines are evenly balanced, and all white lines are evenly balanced. When balance is achieved, press the Blue Only button again to restore normal operation.
CABLE CONNECTORS Video systems commonly use three types of cables: BNC coaxial cables, S-VHS cables which have a 4-pin mini-Din connector, and Sub “D” connectors. Figure 5 explains how to use these video cable connectors.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION The steps for setting up and operating your 325Z DV Camera System are summarized on the following pages. Please pay special attention to the warnings within each procedure. They help protect you, your patient and the equipment. Illustrations are provided at key locations for your reference.
PRE-SETUP 1. Remove the video camera and accessories from the shipping container. Do not discard the container as it may be required for future shipping. 2. Sterilize and disinfect the camera head with endocoupler or videoscope attached following Cleaning and Sterilization sections of this manual. After this is completed, remove the cap from the camera cable connector and make sure no moisture remains on the camera cable connector pins. Let the pins air dry if they are damp. 3. Before proceeding with the next step, perform the System Inspection as detailed in this manual. This inspection insures optimal performance as well as safe operation of the equipment. Note: Follow the guidelines provided in the Sterilization and the System Inspection sections in this manual.
CONNECT THE CAMERA HEAD Remove the protective cap from the camera cable connector. Connect the camera cable to the CCU by aligning the red dot at the end of the camera cable connector with the red dot on the CCU camera cable receptacle and push in firmly (Figure 6).
CONNECT THE LIGHT SOURCE Using the supplied coaxial cable with the BNC connector, connect light source OUT connector on the CCU rear panel to the video IN on the rear panel of the light source. Note: If you are unfamiliar with cable connectors, see the Equipment Setups section. Also see the Equipment Setups section for diagrams of equipment setup using an automatic light source.
Align the red dot at the end of the camera head cable connector with the red dot on the CCU camera cable receptacle and push in firmly.

TURN THE CAMERA ON
Install the video accessories using the diagrams in the Equipment Setups section as a guideline. Below are some tips regarding video setup: • When connecting video accessories (monitors, VCRs or printers) to the camera, always connect the cables using the video camera outputs to the video inputs of the accessory equipment. • When linking pieces of equipment in a chain, the last piece of equipment should be set in the 75 Ω or the “ON” position. If there is not a 75 Ω or “ON” switch, your equipment is self-terminating and you do not need to perform this step. • When using monitors or printers having RGB/Sync settings, connect the RGB/Sync outputs on the camera directly to the RGB/Sync inputs of the accessory monitor or printer. You should use a BNC style RGB cable because the camera’s RGB/Sync outputs are standard BNC coaxial cable connectors. Use the RGB input with the video printer for best results. • When connecting Super VHS recorders (S-VHS), monitors or printers, connect the 4-pin mini-Din Y/C (S-Video) connectors directly to the Y/C (S-Video) input of the accessory equipment. Note: See the Equipment Setups section for diagrams of multiple accessory setups and configurations.
1. Plug the female end of the power cord into the power receptacle on the CCU rear panel. 2. Verify that the power outlet corresponds to the data on the rear panel label and that the third pin on the plug is properly grounded. 3. Plug the power plug into a hospital-grade AC power outlet. 4. Turn the power switch on the CCU front panel “ON.” The power switch and the COLOR BAR button will illuminate green and color bars will appear on the monitor screen. Note: Color bars will not appear if the camera head is already plugged into the CCU. REMINDER: Use a hospital-grade AC power outlet.
INSTALL THE CHARACTER GENERATOR Connect the character generator cable to the character generator input port on the CCU rear panel by aligning the pins and pushing in firmly. Detailed operating instructions are supplied with the character generator. Note: See the Equipment Setups section for diagrams of multiple accessory setups and configurations.
ADJUST THE MONITOR TO THE COLOR BARS Color bars are used to test and adjust the color on the monitor to the desired contrast, sharpness and color levels. 1. Turn the monitor power “ON.” 2. Press the COLOR BAR button on the CCU front panel if not already set on color bars. Color bars will display on the monitor. 3. Set the monitor display to the desired viewing levels by adjusting the contrast, sharpness and color levels. If the monitor has a Reset button, pressing the Reset button to adjust the colors to the factory setting often will produce the desired quality. Note: If you have trouble adjusting the colors on the monitor, see the System Inspection section for tips on how to adjust color monitors.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION (continued) CONFIRM ATTACHMENT OF COUPLER/VIDEOENDOSCOPE TO CAMERA HEAD The 325Z DV Camera System is designed to be used with instruments such as a videolaparoscope, videoarthroscope, or other type of conventional C-mount lens coupler. 1. Attach a videoscope, or C-mount lens coupler with direct view endoscope to the camera head. 2. Attach the fiber optic light guide from the automatic light source to the scope.
WHITE BALANCE THE CAMERA The WHITE SET button allows you to make corrections for color differences (such as hues) from light sources or attached scopes. The 325Z DV Camera System's advanced circuitry enables it to perform automatic adjustment of color differences through use of a simple five-second procedure. The white balance procedure should be followed prior to each and every operative procedure to insure proper color rendition. To white balance the camera, follow the steps below. The scope and the fiber optic light guide should already be connected as explained above.
1. Insert the camera cable into the receptacle on the front panel. A live video image will display on the monitor. 2. Point the end of the scope at a white object (a sterile 4 x 4 gauze pad or flat white piece of paper), focus, and press the WHITE SET button on the CCU front panel. Fill as much of the screen as possible with the white object. 3. Hold the gauze pad or paper in front of the scope until the words “White Balance Complete” appears on the monitor screen. Note: Another white balance is required if the words “White Balance Incomplete” are shown on monitor screen. This may be due to poor lighting conditions. If this message is displayed, the white balance procedure must be performed again.

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM CONFIGURATION IEC 60601-1-1 COMPLIANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION Figure 8 indicates a system configuration that complies with IEC 60601-1-1 requirements. WARNING: If this unit is configured as part of a system, the entire system should be tested for compliance with IEC 60601-1-1. • If the leakage current of the configured system exceeds the limits of IEC 60601-1-1, install an appropriately rated UL 2601-1/IEC 60601-1 approved isolation transformer and retest the system. • The use of accessory equipment not complying with the equivalent safety requirements of this equipment may lead to a reduced level of safety of the resulting system. Consideration relating to the choice shall include: – Use of the accessory in the patient vicinity. – Evidence that the safety certification of the accessory has been performed in accordance to the appropriate UL 2601-1/IEC 60601-1 and/or IEC 60601-1-1.

SYSTEM SETUP TIPS
The 325Z DV Camera System can be used with a wide selection of peripheral components to broaden the capabilities of your video system. Each individual setup is dependent on the accessory peripherals included in your video system. The following pages explain and illustrate how to set up the camera and accessory equipment. Several variations of equipment configurations are presented. Select the configuration that best meets your needs. If your individual setup configuration is not included, contact your Smith & Nephew representative for assistance in assembling your system to optimize your needs.
If you are relatively unfamiliar with system setups such as these or are having difficulties, there are two sections in this manual you may find particularly helpful: System Inspection (includes tips from professionals) and Troubleshooting (a diagnostic aid to setup and operation issues). WARNING: If this unit is configured as part of a system, the entire system should be tested for compliance with IEC 60601-1-1. If the leakage current of the configured system exceeds the limits of IEC 60601-1-1, install an appropriately rated UL 2601-1/IEC 60601-1 approved isolation transformer and retest the system.

PROCEDURE 1. Camera Control Unit Connect the supplied hospital-grade power cord to the power receptacle on the CCU rear panel. 2. Automatic Light Source a. Connect the supplied hospital-grade power cord to the power receptacle on the light source. b. Connect a BNC coaxial cable from the light source OUT port on the CCU rear panel to the Video IN port on the light source rear panel. c. Insure that the Termination switch on the rear panel of the light source is in the correct (ON) position, if applicable.
4. Digital Output Accessory Connect the supplied IEEE-1394 (4-pin cable) from the IEEE-1394 DV OUT port on the CCU rear panel to the IEEE-1394 DV port on the accessory. Both a 4-pin-to-4-pin cable and a 4-pin-to-6-pin cable are provided. 5. System Setup Following connection of all peripheral accessory components, turn video components “ON” using the appropriate power switches. Note: The digital output accessory may need to be turned “ON” after the camera control unit is turned on.
3. Monitor a. Connect the supplied hospital-grade power cord to the power receptacle on the monitor. b. Connect the supplied RGB coaxial cable from the RGB OUT port on the CCU rear panel to the RGB IN port on the monitor. c. Press the RGB button on the monitor front panel to get RGB picture. Use of this format will produce a picture with the best color and resolution. d. Connect the supplied Y/C coaxial cable from the Y/C OUT port on the CCU rear panel to the Y/C IN port on the monitor. Reserve use as backup safety line in event of difficulties with picture in RGB. e. If the monitor has a Termination switch, set it to “ON” (75 Ω) position.

System Setup Following connection of all peripheral accessory components, turn video components “ON” using the appropriate power switches.
3. Video Character Generator Align the pins on the Character Generator cable to the Character Generator port on the CCU rear panel and push in firmly and completely.
4. VCR a. Connect the supplied hospital-grade power cord to the power receptacle on the VCR. b. Connect the supplied BNC coaxial cable from the Video OUT port 1 on the CCU rear panel to the VCR’s Video IN port. c. Connect the supplied BNC coaxial cable from the Video OUT port on the VCR rear panel to the Video IN port 1 on the monitor. To view the image, turn the VCR on and select the appropriate button on the monitor's front panel.
